A Villain refers to any character who is generally antagonistic towards people around them and/or at large. Sometimes they seek to further their own agenda even if it means hurting people. Sometimes they NEED to hurt people to further their agenda. Sometimes hurting people IS their agenda. They may do it for fame or fortune, for power and prestige, or even for the sheer wicked fun of it all. Whatever the case, a Villain has no hesitation in inflicting pain, suffering and death to get what they want and are generally bad, bad news.

A Character who has villainous qualities (poor attitude, no morals, no respect for personal rights, etc.) but ultimately seeks heroic agendas or goals would be considered an Anti-Hero instead of a Villain. Similarly a character who, despite having evil goals, carries many noble qualities (sense of justice or honour, compassion, mercy) would be considered an Anti-Villain and not a Villain.
