History
Born in Lyon, France, young Alfonse was raised by academic parents, but rather than follow in their footsteps in social science or illustration, he immediately took a liking to science, especially biology. Not a popular boy, with emotional imbalances and an eating problem, he took up wrestling to get himself into better shape, and started bullying others to avoid being bullied himself. He started university and grew more self-absorbed, convinced he was destined to fame and fortune with his intellect. During college, he made the acquaintance of several radical students who were very much anti-mutation; this exposure would plant a bad seed in his mind.
After graduation came his master's degree, and finally his PHD, where he wrote his dissertation on the effects of mutation on the evolution of man in the 21st Century. He went to work for a major cosmetics company called NutriLife who was well known in Central Europe for their cutting edge work in making not only regular cosmetics, but ones that could rejuvenate flesh for medical applications or similar biological benefits. Alfonse, who specialized in biological science, was there to test the effects of their products on living specimens, and he rather enjoyed the money compared to his time spent researching at a government lab. However, many things seemed off, and it wasn't until a fateful July day that the true nature of the company revealed itself to him.
NutriLife, it turned out, did illegal biotechnology experiments hidden from view, and their deformed subjects all escaped and started attacking and killing any employees they could find. Alfonse managed to rig up a counterattack during the chaos that burned most of the monsters to a crisp - and he discovered he very much enjoyed seeing the disgusting things writhe and scream in agony as they caught fire. He was hailed as a hero in the press. However, this fame was short lived, as it was discovered he had been taking bribes from his superiors to turn the other way. He, and the surviving staff, went through a grueling inquisition. This was the final straw for the doctor, as he was blacklisted from ever practicing science again.
He commissioned a suit from a criminal inventor and waited patiently. On a sunny day in May in Paris, a group of sewer-dwelling mutants staged a protest against the government over rights issues; they even had a small tent city set up for the long haul. Alfonse, dubbing himself Dr. Smolder, showed up and set fire to damn near everything, and everyone, in that city square. Now he remains at large with a group of twisted pyromaniacs, declaring war on all things monstrous, deformed and just plain weird.
Personality
Loud and rude, Dr. Smolder is not afraid to speak his mind at full volume - whether it be about disgusting mutants or the quality of the food he is currently scarfing down. He is a big man with big ideas and little patience. He tends to be foul-mouthed and has no regard for manners, as they just slow a superior man like himself down! He has important work to do! He tends to attack problems like a freight train and ignores most attempts at being subtle, but makes up for a lack of finesse with sheer stubbornness, often to his detriment. The one thing he hates anything more is hesitance and indecision. As a result, he tends to have a short fuse.
Despite this, he is still highly intelligent and keeps his gang of pyromaniacs functioning like a well-oiled machine, not to mention his extensive knowledge of biology that makes him a master of anatomy as well as knowledgeable when it comes to many forms of mutation. Though all of his technology is outsourced, he is cunning enough to pick his contacts carefully, and orchestrates bloody acts of vengeance against those who double-cross or manipulate him in some way. While he shares common cause with many other outlaws, he is not out to make friends, and is well aware a large amount want him dead - and he has many contingency plans to ensure his own survival.
Despite all of his bluster about the dangers rampant mad science has on humankind, he is still just a jealous and murderous psychopath beneath it all. The more he uses the suit, the more he comes to enjoy the sensation of burning things to a crisp. If he could, he'd burn the whole planet to a crisp if it meant wiping out everything he hates.

Combat/Powers
Physically, Smolder is out of shape. He is akin to a sumo wrestler who hasn't been in the ring for a while. The real work is done by his custom-ordered fire suit he had made for him by an unknown inventor, to his own specifications. The suit not only protects him from extreme temperatures, it is also incredibly durable with elements of kendrium in it. It is equipped with flamethrower units on his gauntlets, as well as an in-built chainsaw and thermite rocket system. Not to mention, he can rapidly heat up his hands and feet for brutal melee strikes - even the chainsaw can catch fire.
The suit also allows him to run in bursts of extreme speed thanks to a special ignition system in the feet, but this eats up a lot of energy and due to his physical state he tends to get winded after a short burst of quick movement. The suit is also susceptible to EMP weaponry, but Smolder is constantly working ways to improve the suit, so he may modify it to fix design flaws.

Wildeye: A recent encounter on Monster Island, when Dr. Smolder decided to torch a manimal village to spite his former idol, he was opposed by a team including the mutated cheetah-man Wildeye, who immediately earned the doctor's enmity for his mutation alone (as well as the insolence!) Since then, Wildeye has been on his 'To Kill Utterly' list.
