Star Soldier Mark MacGottam is but one of many Star Soldiers in the galaxy. Abducted, trained, and equipped by the Chrjuse, a silicon-based alien race, he has become Earth's sole Star Soldier. Consciously, all he knows is that he was given these powers to fight evil, but Star Soldier has no apparent knowledge of the actual agenda of his abductors.

Origins

History of the Chrjuse

Though the actual motives and detailed circumstances of the alien leaders of the Star Soldiers is foggy, the Chrjuse were more than happy to inform Mark about the biological history of the alien race.

The Chrjuse are an ancient space-faring race. Having a silicone basis, the Chrjuse evolved on planet Winbetes IX, a desolate satellite with very low temperature and barely any atmosphere. Despite the odds and a lack of other lifeforms, the Chrjuse were able to thrive for a couple of reasons: Chrjuse, with their pitch-black receptors, were highly adept at absorbing cosmic rays for their fuel, allowing them to manipulate objects and communicate via electrical discharges and radio signals. In addition, because of the naturally desolate nature of their homeplanet, the Chrjuse were able to evolve without fear of natural predators.

For unknown reasons, the Chrjuse are now travelling about the galaxy, abducting members of alien societies to privately train and infuse with 'Stardust', a nickname for a magnetically-charged powder that the Chrjuse value. In addition to the powers that this dust offers, the Chrjuse spend several years mentally conditioning their abductees, training them how to master their weapons. After their training is complete, they are implanted with radio-receivers that enable unconscious communication between the Soldier and the Chrjuse, and are sent back to their planet, ready to fight for their planets' protection.

It's been speculated by Earth Scientists that, because of their unchallenged position in the food chain, they evolved to become highly peaceful alongside their immense technological knowledge, and that, detecting some sort of disturbance in the galaxy (perhaps energy from Qliphoth?) they mobilized to organize a force to fight off threats. Another theory is that the Chrjuse had their homeplanet destroyed by an invader, leading them to seek vengeance or protect others from the same fate by training Star-Soldiers.

Mark MacGottam

Mark MacGottam in Nevada
Mark MacGottam was raised in Reno, Nevada. Mark chooses not to disclose his families' information, but it is known that he wasn't particularly good in school and was kicked out, left to work at a roadside diner on the outskirts of Las Vegas, "The Purple Rocket". Working under his boss and the cook, Page Teller, Mark got a minimal wage, and had no other place to live other than the diner. Page's treatment of Mark was nothing short of cruel, but still Mark was left to attend the diner as its sole dish-cleaner for 8 years (with a few gaps in-between when Mark looked for jobs in nearby towns.)

One midnight on his way back to the diner, Mark was abducted by the Chrjuse and put through their training regiment. Mark wasn't heard from for 3 years until he mysteriously reappeared on the outskirts of Vegas in his Star Soldier outfit. Back at that point, Mark hadn't the foggiest idea of what had happened to him, but he knew one thing: He'd been given new abilities to help him protect his world from danger. Mark also realized that he still had to get back to work at the diner.

Needless to say, in the 3-year window, Page had found another person to take Mark's place (not that it would have been difficult to do so, anyway). Now, Mark had no income, home, or money to support himself. However, he certainly had some new abilities, and he was not one to shy away from danger!

To work

If he's faster than a speeding bullet, wouldn't that make him a shooting star?
Using his newfound powers, Mark set out for greener pastures to the west after detecting the presence of another cosmic being; A 7-foot tall glowing monster in San Diego. The news reports on the sightings of the monster trailed back to the university, with officials stating the knowledge of its relation to a comet that had landed within the same county. Not wasting any time to make a move for fame, Star Soldier rushed over to California to see what was happening.

Star Soldier had come just in time to hear the monster's proclamation of his intentions, where he revealed his alias of Archon and his non-malicious goals. Though San Diego was safe, Star Soldier still wasn't able to get any work that took advantage of his powers. He eventually settled down to work as a pizza delivery man until he began to sense another, similar monster in Los Angeles. Making a gutsy move, Mark quit his job at the pizzeria and headed north to see what he had sensed.

This time, Star Soldier was in luck. The creature he had detected was known as Singularity, another human who had been infused with sentient stardust like Archon. In fact, he had been a colleague of Dr. Fogel and had used leftover samples of the stardust in an attempt to get Archon's powers for himself. What Singularity had not taken into account, however, was that, since the sentience of the dust had already been bound to Dr. Fogel's body, there would be immense side consequences. Instead of glowing bright blue, he was black, and crackled with escaping energy out of his nebulous mass. Whereas the Archon was calm and controlled in his operations, Singularity was driven insane by his lack of sentience, blindly killing all who would not reveal Archon's location to him with plasma waves.

Being the first superpowered fight that Mark had been involved in, it was certainly a close brush. Singularity did not hold back in any sense of the word, burning miles upon miles of Los Angeles in an attempt to exterminate the Star Soldier. However, Star Soldier's speed and shields were enough to keep the raging monster at bay, and in a moment of weakness, Singularity let his guard down, allowing Star Soldier to close in for the kill with his energy blades. Following Singularity's attack on Los Angeles, Star Soldier was hailed as a hero by the city's mayor and became a public defender for the county.

Star Soldier has made a name for himself in Los Angeles, and is currently working with The Champions in closing in on cases involving DEMON and a possible return of Dr. Destroyer. While a generally popular hero in his home city (albeit abrasive), he hasn't made much of a name for himself outside of that. Through government funding, Star Soldier has gone on to live a comfortable middle-class life in an apartment complex when not at work.

Star Soldier is, above all, a hard worker. His circumstances apparently have conditioned to have such a workaholic temprament, and though he doesn't seem to enjoy difficult tasks, he proves time and time again to be loyal, competent, and extremely stubborn. Most find that he does his jobs best when alone, but also within a larger group context (Recon, in particular, seems to be a specialty.)

He isn't terribly sociable, however. In fact, he can be choleric at times when he might be sidetracked by work or other situations. Of particular importance to him is his enigmatic approach towards personal information. Despite several interviews, Star Soldier still hasn't revealed matters of his early life or family to others; it seems to be a matter that he is intensely embarrassed of.

Combat Specifications

Star Soldier's strongest weapons are his energy blades, easily penetrating most armor.
Star Soldier's infusing with Chrjuse Stardust has given him immensely boosted physical capacities. He is capable of supporting up to 680 pounds of weight, has no trouble detecting and jumping out of the way of enemy attacks, and is capable of running at a speed of 492 miles per hour comfortably. The stardust infusion gives Star Soldier rudimentary Telekinesis, enabling him to guide small projectiles quickly and accurately. Despite his telekinesis, he has no other psionic abilities.

Star Soldier's stardust infusion coincides with his Chrjuse communication implants, which subconsciously link him to the Chrjuse energy network. At a face value, this might not seem like much, but is of paramount importance, as it is what enables Soldier to detect alien energies, finding most of the demons and extra-terrestrials he is found combating.

Star Soldier carries around a full arsenal of Chrjuse weaponry. His main ranged weapon is his ability to generate Star Shards; small, radially symmetrical flakes of hardened stardust. These yellow crystals can be thrown at enemies by Star Soldier with deadly precision, and, paired with his telekinesis, can reliably hit enemies as far as 300 feet away. Star Soldier can also use the Chrjuse pistol, which fires out stunning electromagnetic waves that do minor damage.

Star Soldier is equally dangerous in close-quarters as well. His primary weapon for taking out targets are his Chrjuse Blades; energy blades powered by electromagnetic batteries. The blades produced are extremely deadly, capable of cutting straight through tough materials such as questionite or titanium. In a pinch, where Star Soldier might not have time to make precise attacks, he can use a Chrjuse Mineral Saw to cut his way through foes. Though normally a mining tool, the consistent nature of the saw allows it to perform its combat functions very effectively.

On the side of defense, Star Soldier is certainly swift enough to keep his bearings straight in a brawl. Star Soldier, however, also has a Shield Generator, which lays a thin layer of dampening force over his figure, protecting him from physical harm quite effectively. Though it's effective against most energies, it seems to have quite a bit of trouble when hit by dimensional or magical attacks, and can get disabled if it is repeatedly hit by differing energies.

The Other Things That most Don't Care That Much About Because It Doesn't Really Have Anything To Do With The Actual Character

Star Soldier's initial design differs wildly from his final one.
  • His build is absurdly well-rounded. He has 3 stacking defenses in dodge stats, telekinetic shielding, and dampening field, all while using an offensive passive that boosts most of his damage types while also increasing his dodge chances and energy management. In addition, he does consistent damage at a variety of ranges. I don't think I've played any other offensive-passive character that can reliably survive multiple mobs on Elite.
