Cross is struck by mysterious ray of energy
Crazy Adventurer, stunt man and sometime disk jockey, 'Howling' Harry Cross was always a little different; being small in stature. This often led him to overcompensate for his size by doing dangerous stunts and activities, which eventually caught the eye of the British Intelligence Service who courted and trained him to use him in certain covert operations.
While investigating rumours of strange beings in Northern Canada he was hit by an unusual energy blast. It appeared to leave him with no ill effects however and he continued on his mission, eventually tracking down a camp of what were later identified as Gadroon.
Shortly after returning to his base of operations however, Harry began to sprout dark grey fur all over his body and a tail to boot. His hands and feet adopted a claw like appearance and were exceptionally large for his diminutive frame.

Extended examination by government scientists revealed that his fundamental genetic nature had been altered, presumably by the beam he described in his report. What they found almost as disturbing as this change was the fact it still appeared to be ongoing. They surmised that the beam had caused him to take on the physical traits of some nearby creature - presumably one of the sasquatch tribes in the location of his mission. Always the subject of some ribbing from others, he was nicknamed 'Howling' by fellow agents. In order that the name not become a source of derision, Harry adopted it for his own, along with a wolf-like warcry which he still employs during his radio shows.
As well as the hirsute appearance, Harry also found his strength, endurance and agility all had increased. Deciding to put his new found abilities to good use Harry donned a leather suit and took to crimefighting. Seeing as there was no way to keep his identity secret now, the British Government folded him into their in house hero team VALIANT. After several months his grey fur began to shed, being replaced fur by a thicker nature but now deeper blue in color.

Harry remained with
VALIANT until their unofficial disbanding in 2009 and fought alongside other heroes such as
Pendragon (with whom he had served in MI13 and still partners up under the VALIANT banner should they be called upon by dangers to the United Kingdom),
Madame X,
Rook and
Leo.
After encountering Juryrig, Harry was accidently sent back in time to the late 18th century where he spent some time looking for a way back to the present. Eventually Juryrig remembered his mistake and managed to pull Harry back into the current timestream - a little older and wiser and somewhat less trusting of Millenium City and Vibora Bay's older protectors.
