Fern Velasquez inherited her gravity control suit from her father, who invented it in his quest to find his missing girlfriend, Fern's mother. After her father disappeared under similar circumstances, Fern donned the suit and made it into a superhero's mantle, despite her aunt and uncle's protesting.
After making herself locally known, Ladybug, an inventor and gadgeteer, took her on as an apprentice.

Domingo Velasquez was a tech genius who designed a gravity control suit. After his disappearance, his daughter Fern took the suit for herself. It grants her control over gravity and she can manipulate her weight at will.
