Spectra was born with a talent for magic, but a Qliphothic attack on her arcane high school left her possessed by a particularly driven and innovative dark spirit named Nefaria. Spectra is no wilting violet herself, however, and the two share her body and mind, utilizing both white and black magic alternately to combat forces of evil... as long as Spectra keeps her hitchhiker in check.

Powers

Half of Spectra's abilities are her own, born of talent and rigorous magical training. The other half are qliphothically powered, and used when Nyxtus is in control of Spectra's body.

History

Spectra was an ordinary magically gifted grouchy teenager before the Qliphothic attack on her school.

Early Life

Troya was an unpopular girl. She was a broody loner, and even at a magic school, Millennium North High, she was considered weird. Her parents were both white mages, but had chosen not to pursue magic. Her mother ran a retirement home and her father ran a funeral parlor. Magic came naturally to Troya, and she studied little but still excelled.

Troya went to prom alone, to silently judge her classmates and drink all their punch. But, without warning, a student named Blake Dare exploded into a Qliphothic rift in the middle of the gymnasium. Dark spirits and horrors poured out of the rift to attack and possess students.

Qliphothic Possession

An entity latched on to Troya in the attack, but her white magic was too strong for it to take over. Troya fled the school, and by the time she got home the entity had gone silent.

The Trismegistus Council saved the possessed and injured students, and investigated the death of Blake Dare. But Troya kept her hitchhiker a secret. She learned her name was Nefaria, and began to work out deals with her. Nefaria couldn't overpower Troya, but Troya couldn't exorcise her, either. They agreed to share, and Nefaria would obey Troya's will. At least, that was the deal.

Superheroic Pursuits

Troya graduated and moved into the basement of her neighbor, Mrs. Janning. There, she and Nefaria plotted how to best use their white and black magic together. Spectra wanted to use their abilities for vigilante justice, and Nefaria agreed so she could have people to fight and steal energy from.
