Cryogenic Powers

Black Ice possesses the ability to create, direct and manipulate ice or any substance below its freezing point. Essentially being granted the power to cause extreme drops in temperature, spontaneously freeze things in place and to exercise near complete control over frozen substances or ice formations. It is worth noting that the ice created through the use of these abilities generally has a slightly higher density and strength than regular, naturally formed ice crystals.

While these abilities do not require direct physical contact, using these powers over longer distances appears to be more straining and allows for a reduced level of control. There are no exact scientific measurements to go on, but it has been estimated that the subject is capable of reaching several hundred degrees below Celsius when in direct physical contact with his target. As such undertaking hostile action while within close proximity of the subject is strongly advised against.

Metahuman Physiology

The subject is able to withstand extreme weather conditions, particularly those below freezing point, and possesses physical traits that are beyond the human norm, such as a heightened endurance, fortitude and stamina. In his default state the subject is even able to withstand a certain force of impact and pressure, rendering most regular ammunition useless against the subject. There is a minor increase in muscular strength, as well as reflex, but nowhere near the point of deserving to be refered to as superhuman. Although the subject does possess an unusually high threshold for pain.

It might be worth noting that due to the reduced temperature of the body, the subject is also able to bypass most forms of heat detection. And biochemical weaponry, such as viruses or certain forms of poison, are likely to have a diminished effect or a significantly delayed response on the subject, especially when skin contact or ingestion is required.

This strain of mutant DNA is believed to be progressive, meaning that there is a chance further mutation may occur over time. How the subject's condition will develop and what effects this will have on the human physiology remains to be seen, up to this point any theories are based purely on incomplete data and speculation.

Mutant Appearance

The subject per default shows clear signs of a glacial mutation, but surpresses these obvious symptoms through the administering of a chemical concoction. The exact formula and quantities remain undisclosed, but a variety of cryogenic liquids are without a doubt essential in the production of this unconventional medicine that was created through the science of chemistry and cryochemistry.

The desired result of such a chemical mixture is to lower the core body temperature of the subject, thereby fooling the body and mutant cells, causing it to refrain from the forming of ice crystals on the exterior surface of the body. Where otherwise the subject would be covered in a layer of frost and ice to help keep the body temperature down below an undefined threshold. But despite these efforts the irides constantly maintain their frozen appearance, revealing the true identity of the subject regardless of whether the mutation is currently in a dormant state or not.

Actively tapping into his cryogenic powers appears to negate the effects of the chemical concoction entirely, reverting the subject back to his more obvious mutant state. Extreme heat seems to be capable of triggering a similar override of the chemically induced effects. Certain forms of radiation may also affect the subject, but could lead to unstable reactions and other undesired results.

Black Knight - This veteran hero often exchanges joking comments with Oliver, typically mocking the gap between their generations.

Brimstone - A crime fighter who takes fighting crime very serious, which more than makes up for the lack of any true superpowers.

Galactigal - An alien being that is only known as a starspawn and the leader of New Vigil back when Black Ice was part of the team.

Lash - This spirited young fashionista seems to have a minor infatuation with Black Ice, but foremost appears to be a fierce ally.

Luctus - A previous housemate of Oliver, although fairly little is known about the mysterious meta abilities this individual possesses.

Prankenstein - A former young offender who eventually found his way back to the path of the law and managed to befriend Oliver.
