Once believed to be purely an urban legend among the citizens of Millennium City, the Shroud is said to appear at the scenes of drug-deals, muggings, and other small-scale crimes. Most of these sightings have ended in one of the parties involved being murdered; some witnesses have claimed that the Shroud goes after criminals, but many criminals have told stories of the creature taking the innocent civilian's life, instead. Although much is now known about it, the Shroud remains a highly unpredictable and volatile force that should not be taken lightly.

Origins

Very little is known about John Allison's history (even by John himself). Born in February, 1984, to an extremely unstable family, John lived his life in and out of several foster homes before disappearing altogether. He was never heard from again until 2013, when he was found to be the man in control of the Shroud anomaly.

History

2010

After heroes return to the present-day from the Vibora Bay Apocalypse, rumors of Shroud begin to surface. The sightings primarily begin around City Center. Witnesses claim to see a mysterious figure slaying petty criminals in a brutal manner; sometimes, even the victim is included in the slaying. The MCPD brush these rumors aside, with no physical evidence suggesting anything other than gang violence.

2012

Rumors of the Shroud begin to shift to West Side. Still, the MCPD believe that there are more worldly causes to these murders than the general public tend to claim.

2013

A panicked citizen claims to have spotted the Shroud in West Side and snapped a picture. However, the picture provides very little evidence pertaining to the actual nature of the Shroud.

Investigating a crime scene, a group of heroes discover residue left behind by the Shroud. Divael agrees to examine the substance to see what she can dig up. The group also run across a survivor, a homeless man who was shot by a stray bullet in the struggle against the Shroud; however, the Shroud enters the scene and the man disappears completely.

Into the Shroud

After observing the behavior of the strange man he now finds in his custody (who he later learns to be named John Allison), Jason Miller decides that the best course of action is to leave John to his own devices. It appears to him that, by severing the ties from the being that had possessed power over John, the heroes were successful in giving him control of his life again. However, the suit still follows him. Many remain wary of the reliability of John's control, and fear that one day he may lose control again.

"I trust John. It's the suit that I don't trust. I'll always keep my eye open when it comes to the Shroud. But I hope all the best for John." - Jason Miller
