Personality
Spitfyre is still fighting a war of dominance with everybody else she knows and as such comes off as standoffish at the best of times, if not outright confrontational. Although her experiences with other heroes of Millenium City have softened her edges, she is still wary of anybody new in her life and is inherently suspicious of them until they've proven they can be trustworthy on some level. Even then she still has a habit of pushing her friends and allies buttons, probing and testing them looking for weaknesses. In an attempt to hide her own weaknesses, at least the physical ones, she is constantly in peak physical condition from religious use of her local gym as well as her crime fighting. At least, it would be peak condition if she wasn't a shameless nicotine addict.
In combat Spitfyre is like a demon possessed, charging headlong into combat with little regard for her own safety (or her comrades), intent only on causing damage to her foes. So far her willingness to fight dirty and refusal to stay down has made this an effective strategy, but only time will tell if it is effective against opponents matching or exceeding her in skill and ability.
In terms of social awareness Spitfyre is a very vocal opponent of the Status Quo, specifically based around the growing disparity between Westside and the rest of Millenium City. She is generally dismissive of the more traditional paranormal community, accusing them of protecting only the more 'glamourous' parts of Millenium City and leaving the Westside to rot. She is distrustful of authority figures at the best of times, if not openly hostile towards them. Her recent dealings with Meta-S.W.A.T. have softened her attitude somewhat, but she still avoids contact with police unless it's absolutely necessary.
History
Ianna Severn was born in the Waterfront District in what was then Detroit, Michigan in 1988, to Frank and Mira Severn. Frank was physical labourer working under the table for a construction company while Mira worked at a dry cleaners to help make ends meet. Although it was a hard life, the Severns home was a warm and inviting one, and Ianna's parents doted on her as best they could. That all changed in July, 1992, when Doctor Destroyer fired his orbital bombardment cannon onto Detroit. Ianna's father was in the Westside during the Battle of Detroit, helping with the disaster relief just as the cannon began strafing into his area. Ianna and her mother simply stared at the television as the entire area was turned into ashes and rubble.
The Millenium Project helped many of the survivors of Detroit, but the Severns weren't among them; Frank had still been working under the table and so hadn't had access to any workman's comp and the life insurance was so small it barely kept them afloat. Beyond financial woes, the light had gone out of Mira's life and she didn't see able to deal with Ianna's growing delinquency.
Ianna was growing into a wild child, quick to anger and ready with a fist. Pretty soon she was latching onto the bullies of her school, playing off their insecurities to make her own life easier. As she grew older she began spending less and less time in school (although she did develop a keen interest in reading although she rarely shared that), spending more and more time hanging out with delinquents and hoodlums, helping them steal cigarettes and booze from convenience stores. Throughout this time Mira became more and more distant, eventually simply disappearing one day, with no forwarding address or information as to where she was or where she'd gone. This was the last straw for Ianna; with no family or authority left in her life she dropped out of school, hooking up with a small local gang of thugs known as The Chemical Boyz
The Chemical Boyz
To call the Chemical Boyz small-time would be a step up for them; alleyway muggings, liquor store stickups and shoddy extortion were the most impressive things on the gang's resume, but in Ianna's jaded eyes they were another step towards the easy life, especially with Ryan Oxford being their leader.
Ryan Oxford was charismatic, handsome and intelligent in a low cunning kind of way, and the 17-year old Ianna was instantly smitten with him. Unlike before, where she had simply manipulated and teased her way into social circles, the hyper-masculine lifestyle of the Chemical Boyz was a very quick wake-up call for Ianna. No longer could she bat her eyelashes or pull a cheap shot on someone getting physical, she had to EARN her way into the gang. Not too keen on the more...feminine...way of getting into a gang, Ianna proceeded to beat down 5 Chemical Boyz, breaking multiple limbs and paralyzing one opponent by snapping his neck (Debate exists as to whether this was intentional or not; Ianna has never commented but does point out that she feels no guilt over the incident).
Oxford was impressed, and welcomed Ianna into the gang. Pretty soon the two were a couple but again Ianna did not have the power she once did. Ryan was the alpha dog, and many times he made sure she was aware of this at the expense of her body. Despite the abuse, Ianna stayed with him. Whether it was fear or some desperate desire for some stability in her life one can only guess. One thing that IS known is that she developed a reputation as one of the most fierce and tenacious fighters in the CBs, and it became common knowledge that if you were facing "the psycho red-head" you had better kill her because she wouldn't stop until you were dead.
Slowly but surely The Chemical Boyz grew in power and reputation, eventually carving out a decent sized bit of territory in the Waterfront. They were still very much small time however, and Ryan Oxford was very aware of this. He had a plan, though, a plan to get the CBs on the criminal map and maybe even establish the gangs own personal niche.
With the growing shortage of fossil fuels in the world, alternative fuel sources were becoming the hot research focus and in Millenium City everybody seemed to have an idea on a fuel replacement. One such company, HALE had created a new chemical compound known as Deutrium-90; a high yield synthetic compound that when mixed with basic fossil fuels would exponentially increase their energy yield. Oxford had obtained information on a security blind spot and planned to steal the new compound from HALE and sell it to the highest bidder, earning the Chemical Boyz a hefty wad of cash plus hopefully a reputation for industrial theft and espionage.
Unfortunately, the information on the blind spot was incorrect and when the Chemical Boyz made their move they were met with the full force of HALE's security. Ianna, whether out of loyalty to Ryan or a continuous need to prove herself to her gang refused to back down from the onslaught of Pulson blasts and was somehow able to infiltrate the research lab where the Deutrium-90 was being kept. Before she could escape with the prize however, a stray Pulson bolt hit the compounds container causing it to explode, covering Ianna in the Deutrium-90. Reacting with her own biochemistry the Deutrium suddenly caused Ianna to burst into flames, causing the environmentally controlled lab to have its many heat-sensitive chemicals to combust, creating a chain reaction within the facility.
The papers simply described the resulting explosion as a robbery gone wrong, noting the serious injury of many security guards and would-be thieves but miraculous lack of deaths. No mention was made of Ianna, who'd disappeared.
Spitfyre
After the Battle of Detroit and loss of her father, Ianna had held many superheroes in utter contempt; if they couldn't save her father, what good were they? Suddenly she now found herself in posession of powers that could feasibly challenge those superheroes she so despised. Mere days after her exposure to Deutrium-90 she was able to actually create projectiles of flame of varying sizes, and it was merely a matter of time and patience before she could do much more. For a time she considered returning to the Chemical Boyz and aiding them with her new abilities; but something stopped her. She had considered going solo and taking a life of super-crime and was beginning to start planning a scheme when the Qularr invasion of 2009 began.
For many people with fluid morality, the Qularr Invasion was an excuse to cause as much mayhem as possible while heroes were busy trying to save the city. Ianna however couldn't bring herself to do it. Too many memories from the Battle of Detroit haunted her and something deep inside of her said that if the heroes couldn't save the day, then maybe she could. While she by no means saved the city singlehandedly she did earn many people's respect through her aid in the effort to drive the Qularr back, as well as a reputation for neighborhood-level heroics.
After the chaos of the Qularr Invasion died down, Ianna started to capitalize on that reputation, taking on the name Spitfyre and carving out her own little piece of territory in the Waterfront where she began running a protection scheme with the local businesses getting food, lodgings, occasionally money and other necessities in exchange for her protecting the area from the increasing gang activity.
The Blue Family
A while after she'd set up shop in the Waterfront, Ianna began to realize the seeming futility of her position; yes, she was protecting the neighborhood and its citizens, but she was only one person and the gangs that surrounded her were only growing and getting hungrier and hungrier for territory. It was obvious that no matter how hard she fought or how big a reputation she achieved, it would only take one shot-caller with enough men and resources to take her out.
Recognizing the precariousness of her situation but unable to admit her vulnerability Ianna continued what she was doing, but after each battle she was noticing her opponents getting stronger, meaner and more aggressive.
An opportunity to change her situation opened up however when rumours started to circulate about a new group taking shape in Westside; a group of superhumans and paranormals calling themselves the Blue Family that claimed to be a group of paranormals looking to help the city and stamp out the gangs with a taste of their own medicine. Intrigued, Ianna started asking around, learning more about them and their members. Eventually she was able to find out how to get in contact with their leader, Numm, at almost the exact time that word got out that the Blue Family were planning on establishing themselves within the Westside, taking a large chunk of Cobra Lords territory at the same time. Seeing an opportunity to make inroads with the set, Ianna contacted Numm offering her help in the expansion.
If one only had one word to describe the entrance of the Blue Family on the Westside, Blitzkrieg would be the most accurate. A mass of paranormals descended onto the Westside, leaving a trail of incapacitated gang members in their wake as anybody wearing gang colours became a target. When the dust had settled the Blue Family had laid claim to five city blocks, making inroads into both Cobra Lords territory and Chinatown, known territory for the Cult of the Red Banner.
Ianna was impressed with the Blue Family; their strength was obvious but more than that they seemed to have that unity and stability that she'd been hunting for most of her life. In a move that even she would admit was unlike her she promptly requested a place within the gang and entered into the ranks of the Blue Family that night.
Numm M.I.A.
Things started to unravel almost as soon as Ianna signed on with the Family however. While the Blue Family prided itself on equality it was never questioned that Numm was their leader. When he disappeared somewhere on Monster Island, things started to fall apart. Unable to agree on a course of action the Family's extensive gains in Westside started to crumble and the ousted westside gangs began to make attempts to retake their stolen turf. Ianna found herself once again fighting an endless battle of attrition, holding the thin blue line of Family territory against a seemlingly endless tide of gangbangers.
This time however, she wasn't alone. While many of the members of the Family had splintered off, focussing on their own needs over the Family's, two other members, Hunter and Berzerkka remained true to the Family's ideals. Together the three of them began stabilizing their hold on Family territory. As they did so however they started to realize that without defined leadership the Family was going to fall apart completely. Although still unsure as to exactly how it happened, Spitfyre was agreed upon as the defacto "leader", although she continues to insist she's merely holding the place until Numm returns.
Recent History
With the Blue Family on the rise again, rumours began to spread about portentious happenings amongst the magical and supernatural members of the paranormal community. For the most part Ianna ignored the whispers, merely focussing on trying to keep the gang under control and not going insane. That changed when Amy Embers began seeing dark and prohetic images within her fortune telling. With one of her own gang being affected, Ianna finally started taking action to learn more about what might be coming. Through conversations with members of Meta-S.W.A.T., The Statesmen and The Pack the Blue Family began to learn about the arch-lich, Takofanes the Undying and his possible return to the mortal realm. While she is skeptical of the horror stories told by other heroes of Takofanes, Ianna is willing to recognize the potential threat he poses for the West Side as well as the world as a whole and has begun working with other groups to try and organize a defense against the coming darkness...
Powers
Spitfyre has shown a great deal of talent for Fire Manipulation and seems to continue to grow in skill as she learns to harness her powers. Currently she is known to be able to create projectiles of flame of many sizes, superheat the air around her, creating an inferno that burns any within its radius and a more focused version of this that both burns a target AND sets them on fire. Recently she has begun using a superconcentrated beam of heat to great success. She is also able to create a field of flame around herself, allowing her flight capabilities.
The downside of all of these powers is that they are fed directly by Ianna's body, much in the way a fossil fuel produces energy. Every time Ianna uses her powers, she burns large amounts of calories that her body usually uses for every day usage. The result? Ianna is almost constantly hungry and when not fighting or smoking is usually eating. This can lead to some awkward conversations when someone offers her a bite of their sandwich, but more importantly if she cannot maintain her calorie intake, her flame production becomes immensely reduced.
Although not a 'power' per se, Spitfyre is also known to have an almost suicidal refusal to quit and has been known to take massive amounts of physical damage and still remain combat effective. This, coupled with her impressive streetfighting skills makes her a potent threat even without her paranormal powers.
Relationships
Spitfyre has found herself becoming more and more social since Numms disappearance, breaking out of the insular shell she'd created for herself since her exposure to Deutrium-90.
Personal Relationships
- Berzerkka - During the rebuilding of the Blue Family, Spitfyre found that she and the radioactive green giantess had a great deal in common besides their choice in colours and revealing tops. She considers 'Z' (As she is prone to calling her) one of her closest friends and trusts her with almost everything.
- Hunter - Despite his loud mouth and wandering eye, Spitfyre can't help but like the man known as Hunter. In fact, along with Berzerkka she sees him as one of the only people she can truly trust. Now if only she could get him to stop singing...
- Striker - Whether because of his wry wit, rugged handsomeness or simply the fact he doesn't take her crap, Spitfyre has found herself falling for John Wheeler, leader of Meta-S.W.A.T. despite her gangbanger instincts. Although she tried to keep their burgeoning relationship secret from her friends and fellow Blue Family members, it has started to get around that something is going on between the two of them. At this point, while she doesn't broadcast it, she has stopped caring who knows and is simply enjoying the ride.

"Good head on her shoulders and strong family. I don't recommend messing with any of them; girl's got claws like you wouldn't believe." -- Mercy
"Don't push her. Saying I'm sorry after you piss her off doesn't make the burns go away. She's an untamed firecracker, and I wouldn't have it any other way." -- Striker
"She's tough, real, and smart. I don't give a dead rat's ass what some idiot staffer at the Mayor's office says, it's people like Spitfyre and her Family that are going to help turn the Westside around." -- Psionistar
"It's funny that I know so little about someone I see so often, and yet I never get a bad vibe from her." -- Zarp Draken
"Spitfyre, despite her...blunt demeanor, is one of the most steadfast friends I have ever had. She has the compassion to bounce someone back on their feet, but the strength and judgment to smack others off their feet as well. In the end though, I trust her and she trusts me back, and I am incredibly grateful for that." -- Darius Phen
