Colton Carson was your average high school graduate with middling grades, overbearing parents and no sense of direction in life when he was caught in a freak accident that changed him forever. During a heated argument with his father, Colt crashed his speeding car into a truck carrying a tank of a volatile and untested new fuel source. The hazardous material doused Colt and seeped into his open wounds, 'turbocharging' his physiology to superhuman levels. After spending a month in a coma, Colt awakened to find that he could move and react at incredible speeds, vibrate himself on a molecular level, heal faster than he had ever considered possible and much, much more. Wracked with guilt over his father's paraplegia, which was also a result of the accident, Colt abandoned his secret dreams of becoming a fashion and costume designer and began working as a mechanic at his father's auto repair. What his family doesn't know is that he also leads a double life, speeding to Vellore City's rescue in pursuit of redemption and purpose as Mach V -- the unstoppable Hypersonic Man!
With a history running away from his problems, a somewhat caustic personality and a cynical outlook on life, Mach V is unused to risking his own hide for the sake of others or coping with the burden of guilt placed upon him. Though he would like nothing more than to use his powers for instant gratification and self-indulgence, he is motivated by his unwavering resolve to make up for what he did to his father and to become a better, more selfless person. While he may not always show it through his hotheadedness, sarcasm and showboating, each step Mach V takes brings him closer to realising his full potential as a hero and a human being.
Recently, Mach V has made the jump from an up-and-coming teen hero to a full-fledged superhero, joining up with the Protectors of the World and expanding his crime fighting outside of his hometown. Though his relationship with his father is still strained by his guilt, ambitions and burgeoning issues with his sexual identity, he has also begun designing clothes and costumes in his spare time and has come to accept his new role as protector of Vellore City and his family.

- Out of a sense of morbid curiosity, Mach V has used his super speed to remove Sparrowhawk's mask and take a look at her secret identity. He doesn't do anything with this information, he just likes to know.
