Personality
A man with many masks. He's had to glad-hand politicians and corporate leaders, and spit jive at the lowest of criminals. He's had to play the part of business-minded professional, of the burdened middle class nobody, and the hard-boiled son of a bitch. So, Renny might be a bit socially awkward at times, exchanging one mask for the other as the situation dictates.
- For the empaths in the audience...
At first glance, and even considering the more active scans, it would be wrongly assumed that this man is emotionally dead. This conflicts with his presence in social atmospheres, where he may joke casually or inject banter into the conversation. So, it could be further assumed (wrongly) that he's projecting what's supposed to be the socially acceptable emotional norm; in other words, playing the part. In reality, training from his as yet unknown mentor has stemmed to emotional control. He emotes on another level, safe behind a shield of mental discipline.
Appearance
Renny seems to alternate between a spiked, unkempt hairstyle, or a neatly slicked back one, both showcasing an irregular blond dye job. His most distinguishing feature is probably the clean scar running from nostril, around his cheek, under his ear, and disappearing beyond his hairline. For which he doesn't seem to have a straight story. Perhaps more jarring, however, are the uncharacteristic glasses he wears from time to time, as if far-sighted.
- Live-action Potential: A running "thing" is to pick out a likely actor for a hero that could actually pull off a live action adaptation. I posit Vincent Ventresca, with his performance in The Invisible Man TV series being the prime example as far as voice, speech mannerism, and approximate appearance.
- Voice: Generally low-toned and even. In fact, very much like this.
- Visible Scars:
- Long, clean scar tissue that starts by his left nostril, runs across his cheek, under the ear, and terminates at his hairline.
- Clean entry wounds from gun shots: left shoulder, lower left back. Less clean exit wounds visible on upper left pectoral and lower left abdomen.
- Tattoos:
- Lower left bicep - A tribal weave circling his arm, incorporating the vegvisir rune on the outside portion.
History
Reynold Graves has a checkered history, one starting from his early teens. Assault and grand theft were traded in for running guns and extortion in his later years. And it would only have gotten worse if he hadn't been faced with a very talented telepath, exposing the long-term damage he inflicted on society, if not directly. The past couple years have been an attempt to right his wrongs. His talents that had served him well gathering funds and resources would now be turned against the criminals he'd once considered business relations.

Powers, Skills, & Abilities
- Retaliation/Anticipatory Reflexes: Fostered by a sharpened instinct, this ability augments his hand-to-hand combat and firearms both. Very little is the result of rational, disciplined thought. The end result is something that resembles improvised mix martial arts, and gunplay that's better reserved for over the top action movies.
- Adaptive Muscle Memory: Renny can reproduce many physical feats after having observed them in practice. This is, of course, limited by his level of physical strength and flexibility. Though some limitations might be overcome by his motion-assist suit. The usual manifestation of this ability is much more subdued compared to the auxiliary effects: reading combat movements, dissecting attack patterns, and being able to ambush an opponent through their own actions.
- Wheelman: Give him a vehicle with an even number of wheels, and he'll give you a new lap time. It goes without saying that he's had to make his share of getaways in the past. Over time, he's developed an aptitude for commercial fixed wing aircraft, including archaic single engine models, and rotorcraft.
- Reverse Engineering: His background in mechanical engineering and fabrication enables him to dissemble and understand like machinery. This is limited to the more run of the mill machinery and some micromechanics, so items involving too much SCIENCE(!) are relatively safe.
- Linguist: International operations, even at the small-time level, have necessitated he learn a few languages beyond his native. Working knowledge of German, French, Italian, and even some Mandarin are counted among his secondary languages.
Weaknesses
He's human. Fatally, human. He can be overcome by sufficient technique, speed, strength, or any combination of the three. Renny is still far from useless in a fight, but his style will reflect that he's constantly adjusting and compensating for inherent weaknesses.
Mental attacks are very hit or miss.
Equipment
- Pistols: Both chambered for the common 9mm cartridge, and generally loaded with LTL ammunition. His gunsmithing background was put to use in making them as high speed, low drag as possible. He's never without several extended magazines on his person, suited up or otherwise.
- Shotgun(s): Typically employs a shortened pistol grip shotgun that holds 4+1 3 inch shells, or 5+1 2.5 inch shells. He does possess full-sized variants of Mossberg and Benelli combat shotguns, however, and might even haul out an assault shotgun such as the USAS-12 if given enough of a heads up. To withstand his more exotic ammunition, all the mechanisms from recoil spring (if applicable), chamber, and barrel have been drastically improved.
- Ammo
Less-than-lethal variants of rubber or dissolving polymer, or straight concussive rounds given his very close-range preference; the dissolving polymer rounds are adaptive, retaining hardness and density against resistant materials such as ballistic vests, but "dissolve" when making contact with yielding flesh. Hot-loaded armor piercing or high trauma expanding slugs are available as an alternative.
His shotgun platforms support a much wider array of ammunition. Beanbag, taser or rubber shot LTLs; white phosphorous and thermite incendiary options; nasty tungsten fleschette bundles, as anti-personnel as they are anti-vehicle; way too many .50 slug variations.
- Motion Assist Suit: As the name implies, augments the strength, speed, and coordination of the wearer's movements. Since this invariably means greater impact, shock pads and ballistic trauma plates cover the essentials. Restrictions on overall weight to accommodate his combat style lead to a diminished damage-soaking capacity. While still available, he's decided against using this equipment.
- Countermeasures: Combined usage of smoke pellets and magnesium flares, resulting in an opaque smoke screen. His instinctive fighting style allows him to continue combat maneuvers through the haze without enhanced vision, particularly useful when most visual enhancement hardware can't sort through the resulting mess anyway.
- Collapsing Batons: Minimalist in design and crafted of sturdy materials, with weight biased towards the business end. The twin set deploys in a flash to match his reaction speed, often employed more in parrying than direct striking.
- Triage: Basic wound treatment and concentrated anesthetics and antibiotics comprise a small kit that Renny usually has at hand. His M.A. suit's segmented skin, however, can compress to staunch bleeding or splint skeletal injury on the fly...at the cost of a great deal of discomfort.
- Bolas: Monofilament wire with weighted ends. Pretty self-explanatory.
- Vehicles:
- 1974 Chevrolet Nova: Flat black paint job, four doors, detachable roof top.
- Crown Victoria: An undercover police interceptor model; don't ask how he got it.
- 1988 Ford Bronco: Mostly a city hauler, but more than capable off road. Standard hardshell cover, or canvas.
Known Associates
- Anarchy: a.k.a Vivi, Nica. Renny contacted her towards the end of 2012 to offer his services to The Citadel. Accepted into the fold, Vivi has been breaking his balls ever since. Or maybe some hazing should be expected for any new recruit. ...Update: it's been long enough. Hazing has not stopped. --That aside, he's long since noticed she's taken on too much; within or without the Citadel's immediate concerns. And, to whatever effect, he's attempted to take some of that burden off her shoulders.
- Samantha Sheridan: At first he thought Nica's estranged sister joined the group. Seriously, one wasn't enough? They at least make a good drinking buddy, and some of his more obscure cultural references aren't lost on them. Even when it came to classical poetry--that he had to research, himself. Strange.
- Natasha Roy: So he doesn't have to patch himself up anymore. Groovy. And she was the only one who felt the urge to send him, this unknown guy, a gift on Christmas. Charitable, peaceful, kind of the expected healer schtick, yeah? But she takes on a lot. Too much. Reynold's started to reverse roles from time to time, making sure she has a chance to unload. For whatever it's worth, he'll provide what wisdom he has.
- Myrymma Selxin'drae: He'll eventually learn to pronounce that name. Considering her background, there's probably some trust issues. Which is apparently mutual anyway; a strange common ground on which some sort of rapport has been built. He's agreed to design and produce a bike per specifications, which he will likely insist is a favor for a favor.
- Arunee Prem: While they haven't really talked outside of greeting, it's hard not to form an impression. That she's been through Hell and then some, and somehow functions socially, has to be some kind of miracle. He still doesn't know the details.
- Waylon Blake: Finally, "one of the guys." Reynold's taken to calling him Bobby, due to a timely Supernatural reference, with no perceived complaint. And, since the guy seems one to stick to his guns (Or, bow), Rey has started engineering and production of some pretty gnarly arrows to kit him out with.
- Vjara'Yeyin Luar-ke: Despite language and cultural barriers, Rey's taken it on himself to attempt to acclimate one of the newer Citadel members to life on Earth. And that ranks pretty high on the list of things he'd never think of saying aloud; sounds like a tag line for a B-movie. That aside, it hasn't taken long to build a mutual respect, even if complete understanding is still a ways off.
Known Affiliations
- The Citadel: A mixed batch of crimefighters and vigilantes. He joined under the theory that it'd be a shared risk, considering his history and the group's relatively unproven status (When compared to existing, high-profile outfits). Thus far, the experience has proven to be interesting. Even a little jarring.
Public Opinions
{Snerks} "Double-Slap. Random guy walks up to me and offers me a business proposal. Figured why not, you know? I'd have to say he's easy to look at, indeed. Aside from that, he's somewhat an easy going guy who's shown me at least, that he's got a genuine compassion under all the gruff. I see a bit of something else too, but that's not for me to say." - Anarchy
"Reynold is an interesting individual. He has gone through much, some of which is similar to my own experiences. It has made him tired, world-weary, as far as I can see. Or perhaps that was simply the effects of his car's radio being stolen. Hmm... I require further information... Either way, I believe I can sympathize with him, to a point." - Myrymma
"Unsure what to think. He's quiet, likely has an unpleasant past. Can understand the way he acts." - Violet Mask
"Reynold's lived through a lot, but it's not my place to talk about it. I likely don't know the whole story, but the little I do know is enough to know that I shouldn't speak for him. If he wants you to know about it, he'll tell you himself." She nods, then purses her lips slightly before speaking up again. "Guns' his thing. Put a pistol in his hands it might aswell be a tornado of LTL rounds. Seriously. Its impressive. Otherwise... He's somebody wiser than he looks. Admittedly, I might choose him specifically when I need to take a load off my chest." - Natasha Roy
"Keeps quiet and has a badass ride. I'm getting used to hanging around him and his Nova. Also, in case you're a betting man, this guy can play pool. Watch out. Thanks for the rides. Next time, I'll wash your baby for ya." - Day Nine
"Rey is a great guy, he can use firearms, he can fix anything, fabricate anything, he can cook delicious eggs and bacon and, top of this: he got a great Car! ... Reynold is someone special to me, he understands me more than I can, taught me normal human life, I owe him so much... His past doesn't matter to me, I know he will always act for Justice. Renny is someone I can count on. He can count on me too, I will watch his back." - Vjara'Yeyin Luar-Ke
Expoundings
Given the chance, he has his moments of wisdom or revelation.
(On 'changes,' abridged) "...I've got this theory. At ages 18 to 20, and for every five or so years thereafter; major changes. As a person, one's sense of self, their convictions. Where they stand in the world, and who they stand with. -- Me...I've out-lived my expected 25-ish shift. And I'm fast approaching...Old. We like to think that one person can steer the course. Or that, multitudes do it. Sometimes I don't think it's either; that it's just the way things are. People change."
(On magic) "...I'm bothered in the same way, that I know some guy, somewhere, is working towards proving some obscure, cosmic theory. Somewhere. And that another guy, in some secluded temple, is finding their inner Buddha. These are things I'll never understand. Which is to say, I'm not bothered at all. Because there are experts handling that stuff for me."
"All I'm saying, is a bit of prayer doesn't hurt. Doesn't mean you stop trying, or fall at the mercy of something faceless. But it can help."
Roleplay Hooks
- Business Ventures: Renny has established a bureaucratic nightmare of businesses, some officially incorporated or standalone, that primarily support logistics and freight lines. General Transport Co., Interstate Expedited Freight, Mass Industrial Shipping Lines to name a few. Small manufacturing operations within the states still serve their purpose with legitimate business practices, though a few key plants serve as a front for his personal design and development.
