Personality

PERSONALITY:
Andie.png
Osprey is...well...sort of an odd duck. She's downright OCD in some areas, though thankfully those areas happen to be in her civilian life and not hero line of work. It's hard to really throw her off guard with information that would normally freak someone out. She tends to take such information...and either ask questions (as in a lot of questions) or she just says something along the lines of 'now that's cool' and moves on. When pursuing something of interest, albeit a lead she's following or a topic she's googling, she tends to be pretty dogged in her search for answers. It's hard to get her to quit, and sometimes in her pursuit for answers she develops a bit of tunnel vision, losing situational awareness and easily opening herself up for ambush.
She's currently coping with PTSD stemming from being captured by by a group of psychics. Most apparent sign of her condition would be anxiety in the presence of psychics and in certain social situations (such as clubs, raves, or members of the group that held her captive). She suffers flashbacks on occasion. So far her condition is mild (though with the course of RP this may change....we'll just have to see in that regard).

Abilities

ABILITIES:
Archery
Commission gijoespouse rose mcclain.png
Osprey is a highly skilled archer, with an uncanny knack for hitting her target spot on. While she does have a certain bit of talent in this area, her high rate of accuracy even in tense situations comes from a lot of training and hands on experience. She tends to rely on this ability while on patrol, preferring to be able to take her targets from afar before they have the opportunity to get in close combat with her or any teammates. Couple this with the trick arrows she has at her disposal, she can easily tip the scales in her favor.
Martial Arts
Should Osprey become engaged in melee combat, she's more than capable of handling herself. She's been training in martial arts since before her father's death. While she's had instruction in a few different styles, she tends to lean towards tactics she learned from Jeet Kun Do and Krav Maga.
Hacking
What started out as the activity of a kid having too much time on her hands eventually became a skill Osprey leans on quite a bit in her line of work. She has equipment on her person that aids her in this area when in the field. If she needs more muscle, she has a super computer parked in her hideout that can certainly muscle through damn near any encryption out there. She's not so keen on advertising this ability, since there are definitely those in the hero community that would frown on this sort of activity.
Investigating
Much of Osprey's career involves investigative work. She is skilled at following a criminal's trail, whether that means leaning on contacts for information or cracking into protected databases. She's got a stellar reputation with law enforcement agencies in both her home dimension and Millennial Earth.

Weaknesses

WEAKNESSES:
Only Human After All
Osprey's only human. She can't leap tall buildings in a single bound, she can't lift compact cars over her head, bullets do not deflect off of her body, and she can't throw fireballs. She's limited by what her body can handle. Granted, she's got years of training to fall back on, and she's a picture of physical health. But still, she can be hurt, and can be killed, just like any normal person.
Tunnel Vision
Osprey can get a little obsessive at times, especially if she's really delving deep into an investigation. Sometimes this can get to ridiculous levels, and she has to be told to take a break. The downside to this is that this can cause her to lose sight of the bigger picture.
PTSD
Osprey suffers from PTSD, with pretty specific triggers. She tends to exhibit anxiety when around psychics, or when in a crowded club or rave setting. She has had flashbacks in the past, though these severe episodes don't happen very often. Being exposed to members of the psychic group that held her captive tends to cause her to suffer from anxiety attacks. Thankfully, the likelihood of that happening is slim to none, as this group does not exist in this universe.

Equipment

EQUIPMENT:
Bow
Osprey prefers to use carbon weave arrows. While they look pretty much the same as any other off the shelf, her arrows are specially manufactured in her home dimension, thus allowing for some subtle differences in make up. The shafts of the arrows feature two different carbon materials that create 2 spines in 1 arrow, thus creating better energy management. Arrows recover faster, spin 20% sooner, and retain more speed in flight. The back shaft section features carbon weave construction that provides spine consistency, strength and durability. Every one of these arrows feature a precision nock to deliver a controlled release, better shaft alignment, and more consistent accuracy.

Trick Arrowheads
Osp can, and does, use regular arrow heads, but she also makes use of trick arrowheads to level the playing field in her favor. The following is a list of the different types she has at her disposal, though she may not always be carrying every single one of these on her person:

• Flashbang
• Adhesive
• Taser
• Cryo
• Flammable
• Acid
• Sonic Disruptor
• Oil Slick
• EMP

• Explosive
Shades
Osp wears shades that conceal her identity, as well as provide some functionality. They look very similar to Oakley's THUMP sunglasses. The LED illuminated display creates an overlay, positioned in such a way that it doesn't completely obstruct her view. A camera built into the glasses frame allows Osprey to photograph and record on the fly. Touchpads centered on the frame at either side of the lenses give her the ability to scroll through information being displayed. Bluetooth technology allows her to issue voice commands, and transducers relay sound through bone conduction to allow her to listen in on comm traffic and recordings. Osp has programmed key phrases into the unit, and all she needs to do is touch either of the touchpads while speaking a command. These commands include (but are not excluded to):

• "Enable/disable overlay"
• "Start/stop recording"
• "Comms on/off"

• "Switch to frequency (insert comm frequency)"
Neural Blockers
Osp always has these small devices on her person, usually hidden by her hair. They are small, about the size of a dime, and worn on her temples. They essentially keep psychics from getting into her mind, and her thoughts from being broadcast out for a psychic to pick up. While there are situations where her neural blockers can be overloaded or shorted out, those occasions are rare.
Utility Belt
While Osp does have extra pockets in the BDU style pants she wears, not everything fits in a pocket. She wears a utility belt as extra storage on her person. It's made of durable material, with a heavy duty clasp that prevents it from being easily snatched off her person. Her Persona-Slide teleportation rig is built into it (see further below for more info). The belt has 6 compartments. Some common items that can be found in these compartments, or in the pockets of her BDUs:

• Zip ties
• Smoke pellets
• Solvent (for dissolving adhesives)
• Tracking beacons
• Small evidence bags
• Tissues
• Small first aid items

• Medical teleportation beacons
Mini-tablet
While her shades can handle a lot of tasks, sometimes Osp needs something with a bit more power. For such occasions, she uses her tablet. It's small enough to fit in the compartments on her utility belt at 4.50 x 2.75 x 0.35 inches, with 3.75 inches worth of screen space. Sturdy materials allow it to withstand quite a bit of abuse. The device itself is powerful, far above what is currently on the market. It has a number of hacking/cracking programs on there. It has a variety of ports along its length to interface with just about any computer or device.
Persona-Slide Teleportation Rig
This sophisticated piece of technology is built into the utility belt Osprey wears. It's light weight, and designed to interface with the system built into her shades and tablet, allowing her to teleport to virtually any location. This device is far more accurate in her home dimension, where it takes advantage of the medical teleportation network and transports her where she needs to be almost instantaneously. There's a bit more of a delay in this dimension, and the accuracy is not as great. It still gets her to where she needs to go with little hiccups.
Cloaking Device
Osprey's cloaking device is attached to the strap of her quiver. It looks almost like a badge, and it functions by bending light. It works best in low lighting.
Paris's Arrow
The legendary Achilles was felled by Paris's arrow, when it struck him in the heel, the only part of his body that was vulnerable. Eris, the goddess of Discord, bestowed this to Osprey after she proved to be more reasonable than some of her other peers. The arrow itself has special properties, since it was touched by the blood of Achilles. It's believed that because of this, it can pierce the impenetrable. Since this is an extremely rare item, Osp keeps it stored for now, until such a time it's needed. See Miscellaneous for further information.

Backstory

BACKSTORY:
Pre-Millenium City

Andrea Ellis was born on April 21st, 1992, in an alternate dimension, in a major metropolitan city in Rhode Island. Her parents, Richard Ellis and Rachel McCray-Ellis, were very wealthy, and as such she was born into a life of privilege. Despite that, she developed into a very grounded individual. Her father was perhaps the greatest influence in her life, even when frequent business trips took him away from his wife and daughter. Never once did Andie think to question just where her father was going or why he tended to show up home so late. She didn't find out why until after an alien invasion in 2002.

When the first reports of invaders started hitting the airwaves, Richard's first thought was to get his family out of danger. He pulled Rachel and Andie along, pushing through throngs of fleeing evacuees, until he got them to the nearest shelter. One moment he was shoving them in the door, and when she turned around he was gone. It was the last time she saw him. He was killed in the first day of heavy fighting. Andie and her mother didn't find out until a few days later, when her uncle John delivered the news.

It was a devastating blow, and much of the next few days was just a blur for her. She remembers people she had never met before coming and shaking her hand, offering condolences, telling her how her father was a good man. After the funeral, she shut herself in her dad's office so she could get away from it all. She saw his computer sitting there, logged in, and it was then she noticed something odd on his desktop, something she hadn't seen before. It took her the better part of the night to get into it, but when she did manage to crack it, she found out his secret.

He was the Grey Osprey, a masked hero that had been operating since before she was born. All those late nights, those business trips, they all made sense now. And it made sense now why her father had gone back out into the city during the Invasion. He'd gone back to help other people. Her father had been a hero. And she was determined to do the same.

Many years later, Osprey became an accomplished hero in her own right, no longer working in the shadow of her father's illustrious reputation. Much of what she learned, she learned through trial and error, and through sheer determination. She helped many people, and certainly made her fair share of mistakes. One such mistake left her with psychological damage, stemming from being captured by a notorious psychic and her minions. But she never imagined in her wildest dreams that her career would take her to another dimension entirely. (More detailed information on Osprey's backstory can be found on her Virtueverse page.)

Millennium City

She arrived in Millennium City in December 2012, making use of portal technology from her home dimension as a means of getting to this one. Originally, she was only doing this to help a friends get settled after a dimension hopping incident left them unable to go back home. She had never intended for this to become a permanent situation, but the more she visited Millennium City, the more she realized that she could do some good there. A little more than a year later, Osp set up base of operations within Millennium City. She was invited to join the Protectors of the World, a group of heroes who worked together to tackle events on a world wide scale. This invite came on the tail end of working an operation alongside Protector members Sparrowhawk and Harrier, and Honorary Protectors Knight Watch and Violet Mask. It marked a new chapter in her hero career, as it was the first time she'd ever been a part of a non-teen themed supergroup. Her tenure there was short lived, as the dual nature of handling responsibilities in two dimensions took up a great deal of her time.

PotWFrajpg.jpg

Osp's adventures in Millennial Earth (a name that she and others fromm her home to used to refer to this dimension) soon caught the notice of one of Millennium City's most notorious vigilantes, who also operate under the name of Grey Osprey. This Osprey was a male, much older, though it was difficult to pin down an exact age. He was an urban legend, a vigilante who had a knack for murdering criminals. While PRIMUS had precious little information, they did know that he had a number of followers. Those who came into contact with Osprey and his group (and lived to tell the tale) called them Raptors.

Unable to keep her curiousity in check, she investigated Millennium's Osprey and his Raptors, which led to a series of interactions. Through the course of her investigations and her early confrontations with the Raptors, Osp eventually found out that the man was actually Richard Ellis, CEO of Centurion Enterprises and her father's Millennial Earth counterpart. He had lost his wife and daughter in the Qularr Invasion, had blamed their deaths on the heroes of the city. That incident had set him down a very dark, self destructive path. It explained why in nearly every encounter she had with the man he tried to sway her, to convince her to take up his cause. Osp's mission soon became to try and stop the Raptors, finding their most likely targets and hitting them first. Part of her drive was to save lives, because the criminals this other Osprey targeted were going to die if she didn't get to them first. The other part was that she hoped that maybe, just maybe, she could find a way to convince him to stop what he was doing. It was very difficult to remain objective, and more than once it came back to bite her.

Osp came into contact with several of the Raptors over the next year and a half, often with Zach Kern aka Kudzu in tow. Falcon, Richard Ellis's second in command, was the first to be incarcerated (which later proved to be an elaborate staged act). Soon after that, a speedster known as Shrike and an ex-military man designated Kestral were arrested. After that, things seemed to go quiet for a few months. It proved to be the calm before the storm.

Final Flight
Falcon, Shrike and Kestral were sprung from prison during a riot. It was clear that the Grey Osprey had not decided to retire. Whatever he had planned, it had to be big. Osp, with the help of the Harrier King, managed to narrow down two potential targets, involving VIPER and Scarlatti working together to move weapons into the West Side. She gathered together the Harrier King, Zach, and Ouul, figuring she would need the help. Despite the protests of her comrades, she went off to one location on her own (an office building) while the others took down a nearby warehouse.

Unbeknownst to any of them, the Raptors were waiting, and the ambush sprung the second they advanced toward the warehouse. While fighting between Kestral, Kite and another Raptor named Barn Owl raged, Osp worked her way through the office building. While she succeeded in saving a few lives by sending explosives meant to demolish the building into the lake, her inability to think objectively nearly killed her. Falcon detonated his power armor suit, with the intention of killing himself and Osp in the process. She was saved by the Grey Osprey, who shielded her at the last minute, a sacrifice that saved her life at the cost of his own. The next several months were spent in her home dimension recovering from the injuries she sustained. It took time for her to process with the guilt, knowing that her lack of sound judgement had led to Richard Ellis's death. Eventually, she came to terms with the loss. While she would never truly just 'get over' what had happened, she vowed that she would not let the tragedy dictate who she was.

Osprey to date has only returned to Millennium City a handful of times, focusing her attentions on assisting Zach Kern in guiding a new crop of teen heroes. Part trainer, part peer counselor, she intends to make sure the kids at Aegis House are well prepared to handle the rigors of hero work.

AFFILIATIONS:

The teen phalanx by vividanima by joybuzzer.jpg
Protectors of the World: Osprey joined the Protectors in 2014. Her tenure there was brief.

Teen Phalanx: Osprey was a member of Teen Phalanx from 2011 to 2013, serving as an officer in that group for nearly a year. She came to the group seeking change. Or more aptly, she was seeking to distance herself from her former teammates, whom she felt she had disappointed when she was under the sway of a notorious psychic from her home dimension. It took awhile for her to forge friendships in Teen Phalanx, especially since she was one of less than a handful of members that held a secret identity at that time. Eventually she did manage to make friends and grew to trust her new teammates. Without them, she likely would be in a much darker place today. She left the group a few months after they had settled into their new dimensional home in Millennium City. Her departure from the group was amicable, and she still maintains friendships with certain members from that group.

Web-Spinner's Amazing Friends: Osprey joined Web-Spinner's Amazing Friends in 2009. This group was home to teen heroes, some of whom were also legacy heroes like herself. While Osprey had done a bit of hero work before, it had mostly been small time events. Her time with Web's group really helped her to cut her teeth on hero work. While she was always a pretty confident person, her teammates helped her to realize that even though she didn't have powers, she could do just as much good as her super powered teammates. She left the group in 2011, leaving rather abruptly, without really saying anything to anybody to explain why.

House of Heroes: Osprey never officially joined the House of Heroes, but the Web-Spinner crew always had a close association with this group of heroes. If the House of Heroes were to be likened to the Justice League, then the Webs crew would be their Teen Titans. Osprey's uncle was the leader of the House of Heroes until events involving Osp in 2011 forced him to retire from his hero career. Since then, she has kept her distance from members of the group, feeling that she was responsible for his early retirement.

Friends

FRIENDS:
Zach and Osp by EWG.png
Zach Kern: Osp came to trust Zach after, on more than one occasion, he proved to not only be discreet but also considerate when helping others. He was one of the first people in Teen Phalanx she revealed her identity to. When she had to come face to face again with the psychic that had held her captive and brainwashed her, he was among the few people she trusted enough to take with her. Had it not been for him and others on that team, she would not have made it through the ordeal.

Ouul: This magically inclined young man is one of Osprey's best friends. He's very secretive and keeps his emotions under tight control. Osp trusts him implicitly, as he's demonstrated more than once that he's a person worth of extending such trust. The two of them have both disclosed a number of secrets about their pasts to each other, including secret identities.

Oscar Breiner-Shawe: It's hard not to be friends with Oscar. He's an extremely likeable guy, and one of the first people to really go out of their way to make Osprey feel welcome when she arrived at Teen Phalanx. He, as well as many other Phalanx members, were brought to this dimension due to a strange malady. He eventually moved to New York with his husband and children, or so Osprey last heard.

Combustion Gal: Cady and Osp used to go to school together, and were both members of Web-Spinner's Amazing Friends at one time. While the pair used to be pretty close, there's some distance between them now. Time will tell if they will mend their friendship.

The Demon Hunter: The Demon Hunter, or DH as most of his colleagues call him, is Ravenwing's father. John and DH have never seen eye to eye, but Osprey gets along with him fairly well. She doesn't necessarily agree with his tactics, but she doesn't see him as quite the monster that her uncle makes him out to be.

Scarlet Centurion: The Scarlet Centurion is actually Osprey's uncle, John Ellis. John had always been a help to the hero community, even before he created and donned the Centurion power armor. Some of his first inventions were the gadgets and trick arrowheads he supplied his brother, the original Grey Osprey. After Richard's death, he became much more active with the hero community, eventually becoming a hero himself. When Osprey first met Centurion, she had no idea it was her uncle under the armor. When she found out, she found that she had a lot more in common with him than she thought. They both were looking for the same thing: a way to honor Richard Ellis, the best way they knew how. John was forced into early retirement, after clashing with a brainwashed Osprey. She delivered catastrophic damage to his power armor that resulted in nerve damage.

Ravenwing: Raven came to be a part of the Web-Spinner crew, hailing from a doomed future. Whatever tragedies happened there left her pretty traumatized. Despite this, Osp managed to befriend her. It was Raven that rescued her from a notorious psychic. The two saw each other infrequently after that, usually with one or both of them occupied with something or other. At one point, Raven even joined Teen Phalanx, though the tenure was brief. The two continue to maintain a long distance friendship.

Web-Spinner: Webs was the first hero she met. She and Liz became friends pretty much right off the bat. It wasn't long before Osp was asked to join her group. Despite the friendship and trust that they shared, a rift formed between them in 2011. Of course, leaving the Webs crew abruptly, without saying anything to in the group would be cause for that. After nearly 2 years of avoidance, eventually Osp and Liz reconnected. Things are on much less tense terms now between them.

Foes

FOES:
The Grey Osprey
Name: Richard Ellis

Abilities: Detective, Logistics and Planning, Marksman, Demolition, Martial Artist, Hacker
Occupation: Billionaire, CEO of Centurion Enterprises, Philanthropist, Socialite

Status: Deceased
Richard Ellis became the man he is today when he listened to his wife and daughter die during the Qularr Invasion. He blamed the heroes of Millennium City for failing to protect his family, for failing to protect the city. The toxic emotions fueled him, drove him, and gave him a new purpose. He would excise the cancer that was growing within the city, he would be their cure. Soon, others came to join his cause and take up his mission. The Grey Osprey and his Raptors would see to it that they would succeed where heroes and their moral high ground failed.

Falcon
Name: Todd Walker

Abilities: Power Armor, Demolitions, Martial Artist
Occupation: Unknown

Status: Deceased
Todd Walker was just a street rat, destined to either die on the streets or wind up in prison. And then the Grey Osprey saved his life. He became the first of Osprey's Raptors, taking up the name Falcon. He's incredibly loyal, with a lot of talent. Unfortunately, he's also impulsive and easily pushed into rash action.

Shrike
Name: Parker Allen

Abilities: Super speed, Knife Fighting, Improvised Weaponry, Smart Ass
Occupation: Unknown

Status: Deceased
Parker Allen had everything. He was a talented athlete, a stand up kid set to becoming an Olympic runner. Everything changed when his family was killed in crossfire between a group of gunmen and the hero who was supposed to be stopping them. Parker's faith in heroes died the day his family did. The people who should've saved his loved ones had failed, had been responsible for their deaths. When he could have just let his world completely spiral downward, he instead found himself drawn to the Grey Osprey's cause. He took on the name Shrike, and put his athletic skills to use in furthering the great mission.

Kestrel
Name: Grant Terrenson

Abilities: Marksman, Demolitions, Close-Combat Training, Jetpack operation
Occupation: Ex-U.S. Army veteran, Vigilante

Status: Incarcerated
An army vet returning from the wars in the east, Grant Terrenson was one of a thousand forgotten, broken men who were cast aside as reward for their loyal service to their country. Returning to see his neighborhood beset by crime only served to further deepen Grant’s anger. He wanted to have a chance to do something to protect them from those who preyed on them. It was then that Richard Ellis, the Grey Osprey, found him, and offered him a place in his Raptors, along with the chance to actually make a difference by hitting back at those who deserved it. Taking up the offer, Terrenson now continues his service, for the good of the people, as one of Ellis's loyal soldiers.
