Overview

The Serpent Institute for the Preservation and Study of Unusual Anomalies and Artifacts was a secretive organization possessing armored vehicles, highly-trained and armed personnel, and hoverplanes, led by a secret society dedicated to the collection, preservation, and concealment of potentially dangerous artifacts and world-ending objects. They operated in the shadows and operated out of the view of the public eye, and centered their base of operations and containment facilities at the Vault complex in the Rocky Mountains. The Institute was founded in the early 1960s, and was led by its most recent Director, Helena Wolfe, from 2009 until 2016, during the Liberators-Institute war, where the Liberators exposed the Institute to the public and dealt considerable damage to the Vault, compromising its secrecy and causing numerous containment breaches.

The Liberators-Institute war ended when Tony Griffins and Helena Wolfe negotiated a truce and began diplomatic talks. Both organizations stood down after realizing that the other was not their true enemy, that they had been manipulated and tricked into attacking each other, and that both of them actually had similar goals (despite the Institute being rather hard-nosed and secretive about their operations). The two organizations were forced to work together when a greater threat loomed over them, and improving relationships eventually led to the formation of the United Liberators Coalition.

The Institute fled the Rockies and abandoned the Vault, and was dissolved months later when the Institute was absorbed into the ULC and Helena Wolfe stepped down from Director and became an administrator under Director Tony Griffins. The organization's hovercraft, SUVs, armored personnel carriers, security assets and private military forces are now under the ownership of the ULC. These assets would be later seized by PRIMUS after the Coalition's fall a year later.
