Jessica Azami has always been a powerhouse. Having powers from childhood led her to be labeled a freak and outcast. Bitter from the mistreatment, she took the name Livewire, became a villain and joined up with Arc and Neutron among other electric types. She's been in and out of several jails, including Stronghoold, and she's gone toe-to-toe against every one of the Champions and even managed to win a few rounds. She did some work for Teleios in return for a serum that would enhance her powers, only to find out later that the serum was temporary and he cloned her so he could have a more reliable version of her as a minion. Her clone exhibited the same headstrong stubbornness that kept landing Livewire in jail, and she broke out of the villain's grasp to terrorize the public.

Livewire and her clone were in the middle of a super-charged showdown that was shocking a swath of destruction across Millenium City when the Qulaar dropped their containment field, ending the battle. Livewire was on the inside, her clone on the outside. First, she fought in self-defense, then in the defense of her planet. Defender and Ironclad, who had crossed her path a few times before, welcomed her assistance rather than jumping to beat her down, and she started to have a change of heart: working with villains only got her slapped around, put in jail and betrayed, but here were some of her enemies welcoming her with no reservations.

Once the invasion was over, Livewire took some time to think on her position. The next time she surfaced was in jail again, at the MCPD lockup in Westside, but this time, not as an innmate, but actively working to stop a prison riot and restore order. The Champions publically acknowledged her reformation. Modeling agencies liked her look and have been casting her for celebrity and heroic endorsements, though no major brands yet. Shoe stores, toothpaste and tires.

The tabloids, however were not so kind, and her change of sides, villainous rampages, choice of bedmates and general lifestyle has become the stuff of checkout-rag legend. Is Livewire sleeping with Indy Kid? Read about it in the Inquisitor. Livewire's secret childhood as a teenage prostitute? Read all about it in the Midnight Sun. Grainy photos of somebody who kinda looks like Livewire on a topless beach? Playdude has those and more.

Lately, she's been seen hanging out with Tiva Stormbringer, an elemental divinity, and her powers seem to have evolved to incorporate wind and kinetic manipulation as well.

Nemesis

Back in her days as a villain, Livewire was recruited by Teleios to help with a project that required a lot of off-grid electricity. She thought she was just going to show up, blast some power into a project, get paid and leave. She wound up captured, strapped with electrodes and plugged in like a battery. Teleios enjoyed that her power output went up with her anger, so he reveled in torturing her during this time. While she was acting as a battery, Teleios was taking DNA samples and braintapes to use in the eventuality that he'd have use of her power again, knowing she wouldn't willingly sign up a second time, and that her escape was an inevitability. As Teleios predicted, she finally produced so much power that she overloaded the system, allowing herself the chance to get away, but not before Teleios' project was complete ... whatever it was.

Livewire's clone, suffered similar indignities at a different site, but she managed to destroy the DNA samples, braintapes and a large portion of Teleios' cloning equipment, which was barely a setback, since he was done with that site anyway.

The clone and the original met up in Atlantic City while the original was on the losing side of a battle with some heroes after attacking a casino. The introduction of a fresh power supply saved the day, and the two escaped with millions. They became fast friends and started calling themselves the Zap Twins: they wore the same outfits, robbed banks together, wrecked towns together, dated the same guys, slept together, and generally had a good time of having their power multiplied simply by being with each other. They declared that the clone was Jessica's twin sister Jennifer, and the two even got small tattoos on the napes of their necks with "Livewire Jessie" and "Livewire Jenny" surrounded by lightning bolts, the only other visible distinction between them was that Jenny's eyes were orange while Jessie's were green. It was, of course, an inevitability that they would violently part ways.

The Zap Twins were in Millenium City the day the Qularr came to town, and they were engaged in a run-and-gun battle with several heroes that was cutting a swath of destruction across the city after having hit a jewelry store in broad daylight. Jessie (the original) was trapped inside the shield with a few of those heroes, while Jenny (the clone) was just on the other side with a few more. Rather than lift a finger to help her trapped sister, Jenny took the loot and kicked her flight into overdrive, running away. Jessie would have done the same, but now she was cornered and forced to continue fighting.

After the invasion was over, the two had a stand-off and hurled accusations at one another including deserter, goodie-goodie, betrayer, mama's girl and slugde-baby. The ensuing fight was inconclusive: neither one had much martial prowess, and they easily countered each others' electrical attacks. After a straight day of wrecking the area and attracting unwanted heroic attention, they took off in opposite directions, never to be seen together again.

Jenny actively works to mess up Jessie's celebrity by leaking total garbage to the tabloids, posing nude in Playdude, and even starring in a few saucy pornos. She's also shown up to celebrity galas uninvited, acting like the original for a while before exploding in unnecessary theatrical dramatics, wrecking something expensive, and flying away screaming about how the place sucked anyway. This kind of behavior makes certain that Jessie doesn't get invited to these things, because one can never be sure what they're getting.

Recently, the two have started crossing paths in a more formal hero-versus-villain setting, both of them always bringing friends to counter the other one.

Livewire's Penthouse

Livewire has two other heroes ... if you want to call them that ... living in her penthouse in Millenium City:

  • Pez, her CPA and money launderer from her days as a villian, turned into a manimal.
  • Tiva Stormbringer, her "life coach," who came down from the celestial realm because Livewire muttered a prayer during the Qularr invasion and the universe decided to take it seriously.
