Background

Birth

Theodora had been living in America for ten years, having just finally settled down to eke out an acceptable living in South Bend, Indiana, when she literally ran into a handsome young man in an alleyway. Unfortunately, this collision resulted in his death. Even after the accident had been dealt with and Theodora was resolved of any legal responsibility for the death, she felt guilty.

After seeking out an old woman who the locals thought of as a crazy old crone, Theodora performed a ritual that would send her soul into the Underworld so she could petition for the young man's life. Things were slow in the Underworld that day. For while there has been a rise in the following of the Old Gods among some variations of neo-paganism, the numbers were still few and many of those worshiped multiple pantheons. During the winter, Hades tended to let the other claims go unattested. So Theodora was brought before the god and plead her case. Unfortunately, the young man she plead for was not an Olympian worshiper and Hades could do nothing about him.

Hades did, though, notice in this woman before him a certain quality he had seen so few times before. Most notably, he found this beauty and life in the face and eyes of Persephone. As his wife was gone for the winter, and Hades had been brooding, he found himself somewhat entranced by the woman. Unlike his brothers and sister, nieces and nephews, Hades wasn't prone to dalliances outside his marriage to Persephone, but a dalliance this was. Before he sent the mortal woman back home, the two spent some time in the god's bedchambers.

It was from this pairing that Nik was born. Physically, he took after his father in many ways. His eyes were black and his skin pale, despite his mother's darker Greek ancestry. Theodora kept her mouth shut about the child's origin lest she be thought of as a mad woman.

Youth

Nik grew up as a fairly normal child of a poor immigrant. His interests tended toward the fantastic, knights and warriors, dragons and beasts. This led his mother to wonder a bit. But before long Theodora found love with an American who, though while not particularly wealthy, was still somewhat well off. Certainly better off than Theodora and Nik.

The three of them settled down in a better part of the city and life went on. Nik's interest in legends of myths only deepened as he got older. As childhood transitioned into the teenage years, Nik also became something of a popular kid at school. Despite, or maybe because of, the Nik's lack of desire to be one of the popular sheep in school, those same sheep seemed attracted to him. Instead of letting it bother him, though, he just shrugged and enjoyed himself.

Personality

Unforgiving

Nik holds grudges. If he's wronged, he will generally hold a grudge forever. Or at least until the target has paid for the transgression to Nik's satisfaction. It's hard to talk him out of a grudge with mere words.

Judgmental

Nik tends to judge everyone according to his own personal morality and ethics.

Arrogant

Nik tends to view himself as better than everyone around him, primarily because he views himself as the best follower of his own personal morality and ethics.

Demigod

As a demigod, Nik has enhanced physical prowess. He's stronger, more durable, and more nimble than a standard human. As the son of Hades, he is capable of interacting with spirits even if they have not manifested in the physical realm.

Mysticism

Using his connection with his father Hades and the blessings he received on a trip into the Underworld, Nik is able to call upon a few powers.

Earth Transport

Nik is able to move through ground and certain flooring by "tunneling" through. As he passses the ground (or floor) closes back up as if nothing had passed through it. He can move this way much faster than if he merely ran.

Earth Control

Nik can gather dust from the surrounding air and ground and compact it into stone. He can also raise chunks of the earth into the air for a moment before it resettles as if nothing had happened.

Darkness Control

Nik can use the power of darkness to make short teleports toward (usually) a foe. He call also call upon unsouled shades to do his bidding for a short time.
