Overview

A child born out of wed lock to Marvel Man and Ms. Wonder. Joe was raised by the brother of Jacob Hargrove and allowed to have a normal life. During a small Qularr scouting raid Joe felt his powers explode from within. He was easily able to dispatch the twenty or so invaders. Upon this attack his eyes would glow a strong magenta. His heart rate increased to a point where it could be heard from 50 feet away as a steady roar, at an astounding 750 beats per min. His adrenal glands poured into his bloodstream allowing him to perform amazing physical feats. His body could repel the forces of physics allowing flight and phenomenal inertia building properties. Running away, after the unwanted attention, Joe joined the navy. He spent 5 years as a Engineman. Later at a Locomotive yard his powers were needed again as he prevented two passenger trains from colliding. UNTIL took interest in this superhuman and deputized him as a agent and built him a suit that could mute the sounds his heart produced as well as handle the rigors his body would come across.

Since then he has been stationed to the UNTIL HQ in Millennium City. Engine was present at the massive Qularr invasion and soon after joined the mutant academy of X-Pelled. He currently is the maintenance superintendent of the school, as well as giving a few after hours auto shop lessons.

Early Life

Joe was born in 1986 and for the first three years of his life his childhood was normal. Loving parents and a steady home life. The superhero community decided to create several government sponsored groups. Marvel Man and Ms. Wonder joined, due to the hazards of this life, giving custody to Jacob Hargrove's brother Revellend. Uncle Rev raised Joe for several years refusing him to participate in most social activities due to his parents conditions. Joe Hargrove picked up his uncles profession as a mechanic and had a natural aptitude. His parents would visit once every other month still protecting his identity. Just after his eighth birthday his parents returned with another child just slightly out of infancy. This left Joe angry and abandoned, running deep in to the woods Joe waited for his parents to find him. He stumbled across a Qularr scouting party and his powers activated. His eyes glowed magenta like his mothers. His heart began pounding extremely fast and violently hard. His strength easily surpassed the alien physiology, his speed was astounding and he no longer felt the effects of some worldly physics. Joe's mother found him screaming, but she could only hear his heartbeat in over speed. She had heard it a mile away, and his father was not far behind. Joe attacked them both, but a swift punch to the gut from Marvel Man and Joe was out cold. Joe stayed there ten more years. Looking after his brother Auron. Marvel Man and Ms. Wonder joined a super hero coalition after Dr. Destroyers assault on Detroit.

Military Career

Joe joined the Navy as a Engineman and spent five years in a diesel plant. He later learned to develop his power and control it. He is easily one of the strongest people in the world and almost indestructible. His other athletic skills are on par with several level 5 metahumans. his time in the service allowed him to realize his body had to warm up to full power or it caused damage to his body and slight psychosis. He named the term over speed as the large engine on board his ship often did. He could control when his body was energized with his power, or when he appeared as a normal human with greatly reduced use of his power. His heart beat was so incredibly loud the only place he could train was in the engine room where the sound was drowned out. He had to consume massive amounts of food and water to sustain his power level.

Back Home and UNTIL

He returned home to work at the local rail yard. Within a week his powers were needed to prevent the derailment of two passenger trains. During this "over speed" instance Joe learned he could fly, and his glowing eyes could absorb energy. Mostly kinetic, heat, electricity, but also the occasional cosmic burst. This power allowed him to maintain his power level without a constant source of food, water or oxygen. UNTIL recruited his talents to combat alien threats. Joe Hargrove, now named ENGINE by the media attention of the rail yard, refused. UNTIL insisted saying he still had a military contract with the Inactive Ready Reserves. During indoctrination it was observed his warm up time exceeded 45 min. UNTIL instead developed its Mk 38 Hazardous Environment Suit. A suit strong enough to with stand astronomical pressure, heat, and damage. The suit was acoustically tuned to muffle the sound of Joe's heart. The sound was a steady hum instead of the usual roar. Other equipment issued was a smart phone known as the J-Pad. His training was days away until the Qularr invasion of Millennium City.

Millennium City

The Qularr invasion was put down rather rapidly with the arrival of several other heroes. UNTIL's base of operations was close by so Engine was based there and put on a stand by status. After several heroic acts and a rapid decline in the gang violence due to Engines interference, Joe Hargrove got a job at X-pelled Mutant Academy.

X-Pelled

Joe was hired as maintenance superintendent. He occasionally would give auto shop lessons after hours and occasionally attends classes. Since joining the X-pelled Mutant Academy his life seems to be stabilizing and smoothing over.
