A Lieutenant in UNTIL, Katrina is stationed in Millennium City as part of the Office of Superhero Relations (OSR -- squad Alpha -Seven-Six).
History
Despite being a product of a Soviet Cold War Super Soldier Program, Dr. White and Dr. Black urged then Private Mirinova be placed in a liaison role, arguing that Katrina had seen more than enough combat serving with PRIMUS and with ARGENT before that. Besides, they cautioned, Katrina's abilities were weapons wielded carefully.
UNTIL compromised. The Office of Superhuman Relations was primarily an interface between UNTIL and the metabeing community, but OSR went where the heroes did, which inevitably lead to field assignments. Katrina demonstrated an acrobatic level of agility and was a highly effective sharpshooter and combatant. She had the ability to heal from almost any injury, given time, and most astonishingly, he tactical acumen and ability to cut the 'fog of war' rivaled Mentiac.
On an assignment Katrina met a group of heroes assigned to watch over and guide the newly discovered Valkyrja and Valravn, who had been buried in a cairn for thousands of years. Katrina had her hands full acquainting the pair with modern technology and culture, and serving as their advocate to UNTIL, PRIMUS and the MCPD.
There were others. During the Blood Moon, Katrina responded to a call over the radio from a heroine calling herself Acuity. While Acuity was able to keep the reverent of Flechette II distracted, but just barely, and without Katrina's intervention, Acuity would have been overwhelmed.
Sergeant Mirinova has a reputation as a workaholic by her peers in UNTIL, and has been ordered to take vacation. On one such vacation, Katrina encountered the Drifter, and wandered between dimensions. When she returned to Earth, she found it changed. Some left-handed people were right-handed. Some who had been lost in action were alive, others had been lost. Though it all, Sergeant Mirinova found herself to be Lieutenant Mirinova, with all the additional responsibilities that entailed. She confessed the changes to her command, who decided to maintain her rank of Lieutenant.
Origin
Part of a Soviet super soldier program purchased by ARGENT while she was still in an incubation chamber. ARGENT didn't expect anything to be living in the chamber they purchased, and were surprised when it opened, and Katrina, who seemed more autonamaton than person, emerged. ARGENT gave Katrina a minimal education, and used Katrina Mirinova as a "contractor" for two years, managed more as a weapon than a person. The role suited Katrina.
In the 90's ARGENT gave up Katrina as part of a settlement with the US government. ARGENT did not turn over all of Katrina's files they had gotten as part of the Russian project, but chose to destroy them instead. PRIMUS, in charge of weapons acquired from ARGENT, didn't expect a living person, and sent her to the Goodman Institute. There she received further education and she recovered most of her memories before incubation.
PRIMUS
What files PRIMUS recovered from ARGENT and kept themselves are listed as TOP SECRET, PRIMUS ONLY. Katrina served with PRIMUS for almost another 3 years under Special Agent Jake Kutter, as part of a tactical team and field operations. ARGENT had destroyed any testing they had done on Katrina so PRIMUS had to do their own assessment. Her weight and muscle density were above average. Both mystical and psionic evaluations turned up positive, low-caliber results. Combat skill tests put her precisely mid-level with her peers.
Despite the tests, Kutter figured she was downplaying her abilities. Just how much she held back was demonstrated during Gigaton's attack on Project Greenskin. Her team became cut off HQ by Irradiates. Mirinova engaged and defeated multiple Radiates and several waves of Grondlings. To get medical supplies, Katrina raided Major Gertz's bunker. Thanks to her skills, the team survived, though several members died of complications from radiation exposure within a month of their rescue.
Kutter enrolled Mirinova in the Silver Avengers program but proved to be Cyberline immune. Kutter still had her attend the trainings, using MPA17 (Man-Portable-Aircraft) to fly.
After a year at Greenskin training with the Silver Avengers, Katrina applied to UNTIL and was accepted.
When Acuity was imprinted with Lancer's psyche and -- along with the PSI villain Ego -- attacked UNTIL's Millennium City HQ, Katrina was able to resist the mind control long enough to get to the ADIS teleporter, to get reinforcements. She didn't know that the teleporter had been infected by a virus developed by servants of Dr. Destroyer, as Dr. Destroyer tried to pull her to one of his facilities to perform the same type of conversion on her as had been done to Major Thesken. The plan was partially thwarted by heroes, and Katrina was trapped in the ADIS buffers for over a month. Finally, UNTIL, finding no way to recover the Sergeant, decided to release the buffers. This allowed heroes to follow her psychic connection with Nick to Dr. Destroyer's facility. Unknown to Destroyer, Katrina had manipulated the Warlord into trying to get Katrina from Destroyer, and instead of working on brainwashing her, found himself having to engage the Warlord's forces. In the chaos, heroes arrived, rescued Katrina and captured Titanos, who was the converted Thesken.
For her actions, Katrina was awarded the Order of Valor.

While PRIMUS records indicate she was part of the Silver Avenger program for almost a year, Katrina Mirinova is Cyberline immune, as she is highly resistant to most drugs and poisons.
Note: Studying and/or reproducing the mix of mysticism and scientific techniques over long periods of time (intense study) has produced nervous breakdowns, madness, and in one case, suicide. It has been determined by both UNTIL and PRIMUS that those files remain sealed and warded by Dr.s Black and White and are only to be consulted in extreme situations.
As a side effect of the treatment she received, Katrina must make an effort not to see *everything* in terms of combat. Her tactical and strategic knowledge is almost prescient, and while Mentiac is completely unimpressed with her knowledge in any other area, he has yet to beat her in a game of chess, and is infuriated when reminded that she can pull every game to a draw. Her ability to see everything in terms of combat weakens her ability to empathize, hence current roles she's been given at UNTIL -- to try and grow those abilities.
Katrina also has a low level Psychic connection with Nicholas Stewart, and in physical contact, they can actually act telepathically. Distance weakens the contact somewhat, though even when Katrina is on UNTIL's moonbase, she is still aware of Nicholas' presence on earth. She believes the psychic connection is what keeps her from being the sociopathic killer she was under ARGENT, and worries what the loss of that connection could mean for her.
