Unlike most, if not all Dragon Warriors, Ricky was partially trained by the Abbot himself. This was necessary to ensure the boy survived contact with the Red Banner and Hi Pan only moments after receiving the power from Azure Dragon in an emergency hand-off. This resulted in Ricky, at times, being willed into action by the Abbot before he properly grew into his newfound power. By the end of his life, he builds an intimate relationship with Abbot that results in Ricky obtaining a deeper window into the core of Shaolin. He comes to specialize in Five Element Fist, and develops a personal bond with the five elements that inform the basis of much of Shaolin philosophy and practice. Hi Pan is regarded as the most dangerous and influential figure of the Red Banner organization's foothold in Michigan. In addition to being a twisted sorcerer and priest of the Death Dragon, he is also a ruthless, ambitious militia leader who manages much of the Cult of the Red Banner's activity in Millennium City's Westside districts. He is a power-hungry, calculating mastermind who desires nothing more than total control of the Westside, and is willing to go to some extreme lengths to accomplish his goal. Primarily the release of his master, the Death Dragon, who has promised his followers sections of Earth to rule over amidst the destruction and chaos his very nature and presence would bring upon the planet.
