Ralph Matheson spent much of his young life in the shadow of his father's accomplishments as an important scientist. While the father always pushed his son to do well in school, especially in technical and scientific fields, the young man never really wanted to take part in that world-- opting instead for soccer practices and spare-time video games.
All the same, having connections to a well-funded company as his father's was had its perks: Ralph was invited to the unveiling of the design for a new prototype quantum ray handheld device they were working on. The event was attended by dozens of intellectuals from across the globe, and would have been a complete success if it weren't for one crucial mix up-- an assistant brought out the real device instead of the model! The ray was given to Ralph for a photo opportunity, and at that moment, his finger slipped over the "on" switch for a brief second and he was blasted with concentrated quantum energy.
The only sign that anything was amiss was the sudden shiver coming from the boy, during which he switched the device off.
The after-effects of the mishap became apparent to Ralph the next morning after a very restless sleep, when he realized that he had somehow outgrown the size of his bed through the night! Although he was able to eventually regain his normal height after calming down, the panic that resulted cause his parents to wake and discover what happened.
Lack of funding caused the quantum ray project to be scrapped a few short months later, yet Ralph's father still had hope that he could make good on his team's research-- with this in mind, he implored Ralph to use and hone his newfound powers.

Physical Attributes
Without taking his abilities into consideration, Ralph has an average build for someone his age that undergoes a semi-regular physical regimen. However, his physical profile when at rest can vary by a wide margin of inches and pounds.
Atomac can easily assume measurements between half of an inch and twenty-five feet before straining himself-- additionally, his mass can range from virtually weightless to an Imperial tonne.
Powers and Abilities
- Energy Generation: Atomac's physiological state constantly produces a form of quantumized energy. He is able to project excess reserves of this energy as concussive waves of kinetic force.
- Size Shifting: The power for which he is best known, Atomac is able to alter his own size, mass and density at will.
- Super Strength and Durability: Quantumized energy has reinforced Atomac's cellular structure similar to that of a personal sheath, increasing his strength and resistance to physical trauma. This does not diminish as he shrinks, but becomes more pronounced as he takes on sizes larger than his state-at-rest.
- Enhanced Movement: Atomac has shown capability of leaping great distances as well as unassisted flight. It's hard to tell what mode of travel he prefers.

- Blitzer - A brash young man gifted with the blessing of Lugh, a Celtic "deity of skills" that claimed to possibly know an Atomac from another dimension.
- Inner Eye - Atomac's helped this young psychic twice, though he feels a little resentment for not being able to peroperly refer her to the Sentinels.
- Particle Man - Pretty much instant friends with everyone: Atomac, in particular due to his ability to shrink down to his level.
- Red Spider - Ralph has only been familiar with the identity behind the leader of the Adventurers for a few days, but he has somehow already scored her number.
- Taranis - An alien from the planet Tellur, considered as a mutant of his species with the ability to temporarily grow at will.
- Thundrax - Atomac takes copious amounts of inspiration from the great hero, and has even been offered the opportunity to spar with him on occasion to test his own strength
- Zack - While this enigmatic child has taken more of a shine to Captain Incarnate, Ralph has come to take interest in the development of his untold potential.
Enemies
- Borborygm - Like a fly to a toad, Atomac first encountered this changed man in much the same way: by ending up inside his stomach. While his actions were initially manipulated by a force beyond his control, the nature of Borborygm's abilities may lure him again to villainy.

- Atomac enjoys hanging out with other heroes, no matter their age or origin. Usually, he'll end up actively showing off his powers during the get-together at some point.
- He can be seen in Carl's Gym as either his heroic or civilian identity.
- Seems to know quite a few visitors from alien worlds, for some reason or another.
Trivia
- Ralph is still a big fan of soccer, though it doesn't come up much in conversation.
