The S.T.A.S.H. or Subspace Transportation And Storage Handler device is a small machine which creates subspace pockets into which large items can be stored and retrieved. This negates the need to carry bulky items on your person. Don't fight crime without your S.T.A.S.H.
History:
In 1882 Professor Zack Zapperoni was investigating an unusual disaster that occurred in downtown Washington. At first what appeared to be some sort of explosion turned out to actually be an implosion, caused by the sudden removal of a city block sized area. The resulting shockwaves caused buildings across several blocks surrounding the area to be literally sucked inwards to fill the vacated space. During clearing of the rubble an oddly malformed hand was found, in which was grasped part of some sort of electronic device. After studying the remains for some time, the Professor concluded that it was not of human origin and proposed that the disaster may have been a failed incursion to Earth by an extra dimensional or extra terrestrial force. While he was unable to fully examine the device due to its extreme damage, enough remained to theorize that it formed part of a control device presumably used to attempt the opening of a portal between two worlds. The collapse of the portal and subsequent destruction, he surmised was due to instability caused by differing gravitational or other environmental conditions on each side of the portal. While he theorized that it should be possible to prevent collapse by extending the walls of the portal around the incursion point, his attempts to retroengineer the device were diverted by more pressing matters.
Following Professor Zack Zapperoni's arrival in the remains of Detroit 1993, he attempted to recover his old notes and properties. Eventually in 1999 he was able finish his invention in order to to aid with storage and transportation of items to and from his new moon base. The Professor quickly noted it's usefulness in other areas of his life and decided to make it available to other heroes of Millennium City.
About:
The S.T.A.S.H. itself is a small electronic device which creates flexible doorways between our universe of three dimensions into a fourth dimensional space. The device itself can be incorporated within other objects, such as a watch or a belt buckle for ease of access.
Once the doorway is created, the device expands a subspace mesh to form an anchor point for later access. Each mesh is encoded to a specific S.T.A.S.H. and can be locked to prevent unauthorised access. The use of the flexible mesh also allows for expansion or contraction of the dimensional interface and pocket to allow room for large objects to be stored inside the pocket.
There is only one opening to any area in subspace. It is a specific space that can be accessed from anywhere, but has a definite location that is mapped out with specific coordinates that would be a fourth dimensional coordinate. It is literally like a bunch of lockers with infinite locational possibilities. While anyone with the ability to examine subspace might be able to find a pocket, they would not be able to open it without the properly encoded S.T.A.S.H.
Normally living creatures cannot be stored or transported using S.T.A.S.H. technology, however with adequate preparation it is possible, for example by storing an active atmospheric generator within a pocket. Atmosphere would only be sustainable as long as such a devices had power however making this use of S.T.A.S.H. only suitable for temporary storage of living creatures.
