THE GRAND EVENT

SUMMARY:

That's the primary reason why I targeted the Dragon, he's local, he belongs to Earth. He is not an Elderbeing Cthulu bullshit.

While I'm rather bent on using the Devil's Advocates as the main big bads behind the whole plot, I was thinking of the plot itself having been picked up by Demonologist, after finding a grimoire belonging to Fulten and exploiting a ritual for 'causing a rift in the Ban' by 'loosening' the Dragon's chain. How he does it. is by having, long before his death, planted a set of four powerful Artifacts in each Parterre of the Imaginal Realms.

The artifacts, after being activated by the Demonologist, begin resonating with each other, progressively causing chaos, and somehow making the Imaginals more and more agitated, the negative psychic energy sipping into the Material Plane, and slowly beginning to 'feed' the Dragon, which begins loosening the bonds of its chains, inadvertedly opening dozens of rifts between the Imaginal Realms and Earth.

What de Faussesflammes (Demonologist) doesn't realize, is that the ritual was a tribute to the Solipsist, and is meant to release the Dragon completely, which would create a shockwave that would drive humanity insane, basically handing them to the Qliphothic horrors on a silver platter.

The story itself would be divided into four main events (Heroes infiltrating Netherworld, Faerie, Babylon and Elysium) two big events (A boss fight against the Devil's Advocates and a *SPOILERSPOILERSPOILER* - not necessarily in that order.) and at least 5 or 6 small events inbetween the rest (2 for setup, and the rest being various other smaller events that are meant to -ensure- that the chains are loosened enough.) Depending on the participation in the preparation of the Event, it might even be twice that.

DRAMATIS PERSONAE:

PASSIVE:

Archimago - Dead by the time the plot is kicked off by the Devil's Advocates. Nonetheless he is extensively mentioned, and might appear in person via some pre-recorded hologram magic gizmo.

Archmage "The Magnum Mage" Robert 'Caliburn' Cole - Will possibly have a cameo. Impossible to have a story of this magnitude and not have the Archmage participate in at least cameo form.

Solipsist - Mentioned, most likely sitting at the other end of the universe (or its shadow, really), licking his lips as he waits for the NomNoms to get delivered.

ACTIVE:

MAIN EVENTS:

FAERIE:

Dweomer - One of the NPCs assisting the heroes. He leads them through the Land of the Legends.

A handful of token demigods as event enemies.

Zeus - main obstacle, NOT A BOSSFIGHT.

Vilsimbra - BOSSFIGHT

Elysium - Pop Heaven:

The Witness - Picks up the guide duties from Dweomer, remains the guide for the remainder of the story.

Angels with harps, 'saints' various pop heaven tinsel halo'd weirdness - enemies for heroes to beat up.

Golem of Devil's Advocates - bossfight.

St. Peter - main obstacle, NOT A BOSSFIGHT.

Netherworld:

Lords Abaddon, Rathark and Durthz (player-created NPCs) - enemies for heroes to beat up.

Tartarus of Devil's Advocates - bossfight.

Mephistopheles - main obstacle, NOT A BOSSFIGHT.

Babylon:

[suggested by Lord Liaden]

Agents of the Fool's Parliament (devotees of Chaos) recruited by the Devil's Advocates - living toys, Men in Plaid, Balloon Man - enemies for heroes to beat up.

Gyre of Devil's Advocates - bossfight.

Emperor of Babylon - main obstacle, NOT A BOSSFIGHT.

[from Lord Liaden]: I suggest that if the Archmage does appear, he has to use his great power to slow the degradation of the Dragon's chains, giving the PCs time to avert the crisis. That would keep him occupied "off camera," assuring that the PCs have to be the ones to save the day.
