Uplift
Appearance
Amaris loves the outdoors. Hours spent flying along the coast or high in the atmosphere have given her a weathered look from long exposure to the elements. Likewise, her hair is windblown and a bit stiff from too much Sun and salt. She was not particularly careful as a child (or as an adult) and has amassed a number of scars, scraps, and broken bones throughout her life.
Mutant Physiology - In addition to her human organ systems, Amaris has as a number of unusual fibers and nodes that run throughout her body that seem directly linked to her powers. These are not visible on the outside but can be perceived by x-rays and by beings or devices that detect magnetism and gravitational force.
Powers & Skillz
Gyrokinesis - Amaris controls gravity, giving her a wide range of utility and combat options. She can levitate and fly with minimal effort as well as cause other nearby objects to defy the Earth's pull. She can also create large zones of light gravity or small pockets of zero or heavy force. At her current skill-level she has primarily used her powers in a similar fashion to telekinesis and has yet to delve into more dangerous aspects.
Field Medic - Up until recently, Amaris has commited most of her time to help emergency response teams to assist in disaster relief and evacuation. She has a good working knowledge of triage and first aid.
Astronaut Training - Amaris has worked extensively with NASA and has a basic understanding of engineering and math as it applies to human-level space travel and astronaut stuff. She can also speak a bit of Russian.
Sick Flips n' Tricks - Thanks to her innate understanding of space and motion she is a world-class skateboarder and surfer. This may have little or no crime-fighting applications but it's really friggin awesome.
Weaknesses
Amaris is pretty much garbage at hand-to-hand fighting and has never fired a gun or really used any kind of weapon. In combat she relies heavily on her powers for offense.
History
Amaris is the daughter of Mexican American immigrants and spent much of her childhood moving around the southwest before finally settling down in Sunnydale, California.
As this was a small, sleepy town with no crime or meta-activity to speak of, Amaris originally had no ambition to become a costumed superhero. Instead she volunteered with disaster relief efforts and was soon enlisted to help rescue and evacuate people from regions hit by earthquakes and floods.
As an extension of this she became interested in the field of medicine until she was contacted by NASA and offered a job. While NASA greatly helped expand her knowledge and understanding of her powers she found it was not how she wanted to contribute to society. (Plus that stuff is really complicated. I mean damn.)
Then everything changed when Death Ray attacked! The little town of Sunnydale turned out to be a literal cover for his underground robot factory.
Having little experience with using her powers offensively and being the only meta-human for miles, Amaris could do little to stop the machines from taking over. Instead she got as many people to safety as she could before PRIMUS and the Young Renegades arrived to kick metal ass.
In the confusion, the mayor disappeared and hasn't been seen since. Once the smoke cleared and PRIMUS deemed it safe to allow people back into their homes the town was left leaderless and in shambles. No one wanted to be responsible for a place that could be attacked by evil robots at any moment. That is until Sergio Kohler arrived...
Affiliations
Racer Red - Amaris doesn't trust Surge as far as she can throw him (which is really far so probably a bad figure of speech). She isn't ready to believe that he's turned a new leaf and is suspicious of his motives for becoming the new mayor. Still, the two have agreed that they need to work together if the town is going to recover.
On the other hand, she is a lot more fond of the current Racer Red, Dallas Thompson. It's really too bad that guy isn't mayor.
NASA - Uplift has a strong relationship with the National Aerodynamics and Space Administration. She has participated in training exercises, volunteers at space camp, and met with foreign astronaut teams as well.
Metagame
Amaris is transgendered and identifies as male. However, he has only made this known to a handful of people and tends to avoid the subject in public. He considers his duties as a hero and helping others to be above his own needs and has yet to fully address his feelings.
Theme Song - Metric - Help I'm Alive
