History of the Future

In the year 2312, the world is not what one of 2009 might envision. Nuclear winter has left the Earth a wasteland with few and far between areas that are safe. Cities lay in ruins, if there's anything left of them at all. Entire mountain ranges are gone, forests have been obliterated, all animals are either extinct or endangered. Including humans.

It all started with nuclear bombs in the early 21st century.

Only a handful of decades after the historical attack on Detroit by Doctor Destroyer, one of his students surpassed him. Known in the history books as Genocide, the student somehow managed to set off nuclear bombs in major cities throughout the world all at the same time. No one has ever figured out just how he did it.

The surviving humans fled to underground bunkers and caves, going to the surface as rarely as possible during the inevitable nuclear winter that lasted over a hundred years. While living this way, at some point the normal civilians turned on the very super beings they had once admired. They blamed them for the horrors that had fallen on the world, since Genocide had been like them. Few heroes survived the betrayal, and those that did managed to hide themselves, never heard from again.

The bombs were just the beginning though. During that time, with the Earth so very vulnerable, alien species took advantage of the situation to further plunder the Earth's resources. Some came for the radiation left over by the bombs, actually harvesting it. Some came for minerals. Some seemed to come and pillage simply because they could.

As the atmosphere and climate gradually shifted back to a survivable point, the humans returned to the surface permanently. Contact was made with other survivors.

Eventually, the Earth United Army was formed and the humans began to fight back against the alien plunderers.

About a hundred and fifty years later, scientists managed to finally perfect a technology that had been in the works ever since the bombs.

And the Earth was still at war.

A Soldier's Past

Sylexia, or Syl to her friends, was born in a poor excuse for a hospital. Her father had died during a battle with the Qularr approximately two months before her birth. Her mother died just after Sylexia was born. It was as if she had given up hope after losing her husband and only held on long enough to bring her daughter into the world.

Sylexia was raised by several people: her father's platoon in the army. The soldiers took Sylexia into their homes with their families. She's stay with one family for a few months or maybe a year and then move on to another soldier's family. While she never felt as if she had a real home, she at least always knew that people cared about her, even if it was just because of her parents. Once she reached the age of 17, Sylexia joined the Earth's United Army along side her parent's friends and her own friends.

One year of training was cut short by nine months as the rat-like Nevik race of aliens began another war with the humans. Even the new recruits were needed.

Thrown into the 505th Squad, Sylexia seemed to have an innate ability when it came to fire arms. Given a good weapon, she could take down a Nevikii Tran, or 'general', from hundreds of yards away with a single shot. Eventually, the rodent aliens learned to keep their generals better hidden.

The war went on for eight years.

In the year 2312, now a lieutenant and the head of the 505th Squad, Sylexia was chosen to be sent back in time with a new technology. Her orders are simple.

Stop Genocide.

She knows she'll never be going back home. It was a one way trip. The scientists told her that.

After all, if she's successful in defeating Genocide, home as she knows it will no longer exist anyway.

Associations

The Guardians

Miss Metropolis - Metro, as Sylexia refers to her, has an optimistic personality that is refreshing to the often serious soldier. That optimism and Metro's versatile abilities make her not only a welcome friend but someone that Syl trusts with her in battles.

Citizen 13 - While 13 can get on Sylexia's nerves with his constant joking, she is learning to accept it as a sign of camaraderie. Plus, she cannot help but admire his uncanny skill with a pair of pistols.

Hu'Szsersvn - This space traveling bee-kind alien, commonly called Hugs, is continual entertainment as well as indispensable in a fight. Granted, her constant jumping around does tend to give Sylexia a headache, but she's learned that it's just the way Hugs is.

Atomic Boy - Although Syl doesn't know him terribly well yet, she has come to appreciate this nuclear man's abilities and to respect his knowledge of a time she's still not too familiar with.

The Green Conquistador - A recently made friend, this sword wielding Spaniard seems to have an unnerving knack for making Sylexia laugh at the same time that she's tempted to shoot him for laying on the charm a bit too thick.

Jugabyte - What this black skinned hero is, Sylexia isn't quite sure, but his quirky personality keeps things entertaining.

Bolt Thrower - A personality driven android, Bolt has become a comrade that Sylexia trusts. There's something familiar about him, as if she's known him since before joining The Guardians, but she just can't figure out how that is possible.
