Summary

Storm Howler watching the mountain of Kigatillik.

"I am wind, I am Air, the spirits will heed and be your ally." - Storm Howler

Storm Howler, one of the last remaining Spirit Guardians from the Spirit Dens and Communes within the Canadian Wildlands. Summoned after the previous guardian had vanished from the den, Allakumbare, Storm Howler by human names, was brought forward to continue the task of keeping corruption and defilement away from the Dens. As the corruption of Kigatilik's return became more prevalent, Storm Howler was forced to be a defender of the uncorrupted lands. Taking a physical form again to combat these forces, Storm Howler became a force of his own.

PRIMUS became aware of Storm Howler and his nature. While elusive, Storm Howler was known to work with the Heroes and Champions that arrived in the lands, but his wild spirit was never around long enough to register or control. Sticking to the Canadian Highlands, Storm Howler never left the region of his rebirth till after the corruption of the Spirit Dens he was to protect. During the recent years of activity, he finally emerged from his elusive game of avoiding most contact with the PRIMUS or any Champion related organization. Despite this, Storm Howler still keeps his distance from developed lands.

History

Life Before Death

Allakumbare had no name and no real identity, merely a beast of the wilds within the vast wilderness. A wolf of a pack nine strong, he lived as one would expect of a wolf. Hunting by day, feed the young by night, protect the pack for the rest of the time. Allakumbare lived for a strong fifteen years in the wilds fathering several packs of cubs over his lifetime. Though having little to no contact with man, Allakumbare always was hesitant to inspect newcomers to their territory. Through the trials and defeats of nature, Allakumbare succumbed to enternal rest. However, the cycle of life and death in nature continued to live on.

The Return to Life

Allakumbare spent three centuries within the confines of a Spirit Den, content to be one of many. In death, he saw the world with a new sight, though restrained to the den. Wind lept about whenever Allakumbare would be active, dancing in its calm breezes as he too tended to nature's needs through the spiritual world. This was also a time of revelation as his den came in contact with a very different creature ... man. Shamans and tribals often spoke to the Spirits, left offerings, and asked for favor from natures elements through these former creatures of the wilds. However, there was always a danger of corruption to the Dens, and with it, a spirit was chosen to become a mortal guardian to defend the dens either till their destruction or their return.

The Spirit Guardians were rare, unseen avatars of the Dens, avoiding all contact with the outside world save for the forces that sought to defile the sacred grounds. During the recent years, the Dens all became aware of the rise of the Demon God, Kigatillik, and his return. With the looming danger of a new powerful corruption, Allakumbare's den had sent forward one of their own. As years went by, the Den stayed relatively free of the corruption. It would not remain this way, as the Den Guardian would eventually vanish completely, no sign of their departure, no evidence of foul play. Open and vulnerable, the Commune sent another in their place. Allakumbare was selected to become the next Den Guardian, though the reason behind the choice remained unclear even to him. Allakumbare departed from his Den to fulfill his task, but only in spirit. Without a host to permit a material form, Allakumbare was left with little option but to discover the fate of the lost Den Guardian.

Storm Howler's material form came a week after his search began. While investigating the far mountains, he came across the broken form of man. An old man by the name of Albert Tourne had injured himself while climbing in the mountains and near death. Storm Howler, intrigued by the potential of a new host so quickly, offered a deal of loaning his material form for the return of extended life once Storm Howler finished his purpose. The human quickly agreed to the terms, allowing Allakumbare to merge with him, creating the physical form of Storm Howler.

Truth and Failure

Two months after Storm Howler restored his physical form, he was eventually confronted by the the corrupted form of the former Den Guardian, Shadow Talon. She, herself, finding a mortal host of her own at the time, threatened the den and Storm Howler, vowing the same corruption that took her would overtake them. Eager to destroy the tainted Spirit, Storm Howler made chase, following Shadow Talon deep into unknown reaches of the Canadian wild lands. Unfamiliar with the territory, Storm Howler's confusion quickly allowed Shadow Talon to evade him, constantly drawing the spirit guardian further from the den. Going as far as the lands of man to pursue his prey. However, as Storm Howler went further, the dimmer the voices of the Spirit Den came to him, to the point that they were barely heard at all. Unnerved by the silence, Storm Howler attempted to return, but now the voices were quiet, no matter the direction he chose. Though lost, he eventually made his way back to discover that Shadow Talon didn't challenge him to hunt her, but to lure him away, the proof lay in the fact that his Spirit Den was silent, corrupted by the forces he was charged to stop. Nearly broken by failure, and fearful of his fate, Allakumbare's spirit lamented and despaired, leaving his host to his body for many weeks.

Searching for Purpose

It was a month later did Allakumbare remanifest as Storm Howler. While the loss of his Spirit Den weighed heavily in his mind, vengeance burned in his heart. Determined to hunt and destroy Shadow Talon, he began his desperate hunt for her, treading deep into unknown lands. As his hunt ensued, his purpose was not as clear as he had hoped anymore, even if Shadow Talon were to be destroyed, he knew nothing on how to restore the Dens, how to purify the land again. Trying to commune with what spirits remained uncorrupted, Storm Howler was often seen in the wilds and occasionally in the cities, seeming to wander. Drawn to locations of spiritual significance, he searches for answers he may never find, fighting back the despair of a lonely exile, and meaningless existence.

PRIMUS has become aware of Storm Howler's activities, albeit vague, as most occurrences involve heavy storm environments. While attempts to contact Storm Howler were unsuccessful, Champions have occasionally managed to make short term pacts with him. However, like the snow storms he conjured, such alliances rose and faded just as quickly.

Personality

Due to a mix of his bestial nature and his recent return to life, Storm Howler was very detatched to the mortal realm. Seeing how Guardians were to have little to no contact with the outside world beyond the regions they tended to, Storm Howler encountered the mystery of the world at large, and yet still tries to learn of those around him. Through years of interacting with Shamans, Storm Howler tends to gravitate closer to those of Shamanistic talents and spiritual connections. This is often shown in Storm Howler's speech, often referring to allegories and references to the Spiritual and Natural world. This does not mean that he is unable to connect to those not of these talents, but it is commonly found he is not as forwardly trusting to such until time to know them has passed.

Storm Howler seldom speaks, and when he does, it is in curiosity or in insight. A raspy low voice emanates from his wolven throat as often he struggles with the common language English. Often he is heard, listing or debating the words he speaks, often trying to decide which ones have the meaning he needs. Due to this, his speech is often slow and ponderous when he tries to speak for more than a sentence or two.

Since the loss of the Den, Storm Howler is often seen as morbid or depressed from time to time, especially when contemplates the fact he may be stuck alone for his existence. Though through the pacts and shamans he associates with, hope is often restored in him, bringing him back to the dedication he clings to.

Apperance

A mix of Timber Wolf, Man, and Nature's wrath rolled into a strong spiritual presence.

Storm Howler bares the resemblance of a human crossed with a timber wolf. While this appearance alone can immediately have someone confusing him as a werewolf, on closer inspection, they would find traits that would disprove this. Storm Howler's eyes are a calm glowing blue, reflecting his spiritual nature, and his fur drifts gently like a breeze pushes its way through it, even in locations not open to the elements.

In regards to clothing, Storm Howler wears little to none. Mostly due to his nature, his body requires no cover for decency due to his anatomy having nothing to show. This leaves him wearing only trinkets and small bands of leather. Both his upper arms are strapped and are always adorned with hawk and eagle feathers. The only other piece of clothing would be a shaman's belt across his waist, adorned with skulls and pouches which are never used. There had been debate whether the skulls were real or if they too were just manifestations of Allakumbare's nature.
