Background and Origin
Small Beginings
Rosella was born into a circus family. While on paper she is from a tiny town in Georgia, her family only resides there in the winter off season, and even then only briefly. She has spent most of her young life on the road with her relatives.
Rosella learned a great deal in the circus as most children growing up in this environment can. A different town almost every day; mountains deserts, cities of every size and shape. A broad mix of cultures, languages and people to meet all the time.While most of her family and the performers themselves were from the deep south, they had many performers and tradespeople from all over the world.
The Finkle and Addams Circus actually had a couple of former and professional teachers in the circus. Ella was given a mix of home schooling and teaching by these members. Despite the outside perception, her sibling and the other kids in the traveling 'city on the move' were closely monitored on their progress by their hometown's educational authorities.
Not that it was really necessary, the sense of family within any circus is strong, the F&A Circus was no exception. Living around people who are you island of community in constantly changing surroundings and strangers created a close community of people. Every grown up was an honorary Uncle or Aunt, the show itself a parent with more pets than any kid could ever want.
Like every other kid in a city on the move and working almost every day in a new town, chores were an costant. Constantly working with her parents and the other perfomers taught her a host of little skills and she had plans to follow in her parents' craft and become a showman.
Her parents worked the sideshow, working with performers and curiosities. The Masks were part of a long held collection of curio items meant to amuse onlookers and sell tickets to an exhibit of the "Weird and Wild".
Sorrow and Joy
Late one night a thief broke into the sideshow tent and stole the two mask. Rosella's little sister Penelope screamed in fear when she accidentally discovered the theft in progress. This summoned roustabouts, performers up late and Rosella. A chase ensued until when cornered, the thief struggled with an 'uncle' and she dropped one mask. Donning the other mask, she teleported away.
Once the shock of it all wore off the other mask was recovered and given to Ella to return back to the show. While talking to her little sister about the mysterious event, in jest, she put the mask on.
It refused to come off.
The City of Superhumans
Once Rosella had recovered from the trauma of being trapped in Sorrow, she decided to fine a way to get herself out of trouble. There was one city famous for superhumans. While it is a bastion of high technology and super science; but it is also a place of learning and some of the most powerful and knowledgeable mages on the planet: Millennium City. Better still, they had a school for young superhumans, Ravenswood Academy.
Enrolled late in the year, Rosella determined to learn as muc has she can and make the best of her situation.
Powers, Skills, and Attributes
Powers
Currently all of Rosella's magical powers come from the Mask, Sorrow.
Shadow Skin - The mask can produce a thick fluid that coats and replaces it's wearer's clothing. Shortly after covering the bearer, it forms an armored suit that is extraordinarily effective and self repairing.
Flayed Wings - The Shadow Skin can be used to other purposes, such as limbs. One of the few uses Rosella has discovered to far are wings. The mask cal flay off thin layers of the armored skin and use them as wings; the result is a translucent pair of limbs that allow her to fly. Her current lack of skill with the power makes her keep a slow speed and use it cautiously; if at all.
Devouring Void - Sorrow can project shapes that drain energy from living things or slowly disintegrate non-living things. Ella has little trust in the reliability of this power and rarely uses it and as a result has little practice with it. Most often she will throw up a disc shape in front of her as a shield, this seems to be powerful enough to stop common small arms.
Sustainment - One of hte fortunate side effects of the mask, given that Ella can't remove it, is that it sustains her. She doesn't need ot eat, drink or breathe. While she does breathe, her chest moves and she can't hold her breath too long, she isn't taking in any air from around her. Where the air comes from, she doesn't know. She also has no idea where the energy and nutrition she'd normally need comes from.
Arcane Sight - Sorrow blocks Ella normal sight but provides her with it's own vision. For the most part she sees what she normally would but with a few additions. Sorrow can see in the dark but it's black and white. The mask also sees magical auras and effects but Ella at this time cannot understand most of what the mask shows her beyond the mundane sight.
Unknown - Based on what she has seen Joy do, Rosella assumes the mask has other powers she is unaware of.
Skills
Skill 1 - Skills are the things your character has learned to do, or has an innate talent at doing.
Skill 2 - These skills can be as mundane as painting, to more fantastical things such as enchanting items.
Skill 3 - If your character has no particular skills worth noting, feel free to follow the same directions as shown for the 'Powers' sub-header on how to remove this section.
Attributes
Attribute 1 - Attributes are physical or mental traits, separate from powers in most cases, though possibly enhanced by them.
Attribute 2 - Attributes can be things such as flexibility, or being naturally acrobatic, or good eye-hand coordination perhaps.
Attribute 3 - Again, like the last two, if you have no use for it, delete this section. You can also ALTER the section if there is something missing that you would find more fitting.
