Personality

Edward is diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. As such, he often appears exceptionally reclusive in social circles, is very quiet, and has a difficult time communicating, often stuttering or not finishing his sentences. Despite his social ineptitude, he is very friendly to just about everyone, and is constantly trying to portray himself as such. This can be taken to a mild extreme, where even overtly abrasive individuals, who clearly don’t want him around, may find themselves pestered and annoyed by his attempts to make friends and be social. On the other hand, when someone does befriend him, Edward is loyal to the logical extreme, jumping to help out, and willing to sacrifice anything (including his own life) to help them.

Outside of social environments, Edward is logical, calculating, and tries to be as efficient as humanly possible. This usually encompasses every aspect of his life, excepting superheroics, which Shellhead actually dislikes. He originally got into the gig because he wanted to help people, but the heavy level of violence (which terrifies him) is often a deterrent to bother going out and patrolling the streets; not that it actually stops him. Shellhead will always try to resolve a situation peacefully and with as few cracked skulls as possible, unless enraged by something that goes so far against his standards he legitimately can’t help himself otherwise.

When the violence starts, Edward becomes a totally different person. The meek, frightened yet friendly, and seemingly pacifistic boy is replaced by a vicious, relentless, and violent berserker, with a fury few can match. He usually won’t stop until either he, or his opponent, is rendered incapable of continuing. This is part of the reason Edward doesn’t like violence; he’s afraid he’ll eventually cause more damage than intended. So far, he’s kept that under control, but the possibility is always gnawing at him, preventing him from being the first to strike the majority of the time.

Skills and Attributes

Skills

Physics & Chemistry - Edward is home-tutored in numerous physical sciences, primarily physics and chemistry, and is much more knowledgeable of the subjects than someone his age ought to be.

Engineering - Like physics, Edward was tutored in advanced engineering. He built and maintains his suit of powered armour all by himself.

Sorcery - Edward has no real skill or talent with magic. He does, however, know very much about it, and how mages perform it.

Draconic Language & Society - Thanks to time spent with his father, Edward has a very comprehensive understanding of dragons’ language (which he speaks fluently), social structures, types of governments, and philosophies.

Attributes

Genius-level intelligence - Edward’s IQ is actually unknown, having never taken a test. However, at his age, and with the skills he possesses, it’s not hard to see that he is, in fact, brilliant.

Fast Learner - Edward is a very quick learner, able to learn most scholarly subjects in a matter of months, compared to the years it would take a normal person.

Tactical Mastermind - A natural talent of his, likely picked up from his father, Edward is a very good planner and schemer, and it isn’t uncommon for him to manipulate events so they pan out in a heroes favor, or expose criminal leaders.

Paraphernalia

Powered Armour

Shellhead’s primary form of “super powers” is a suit of powered armour. While nowhere near as powerful, or advanced, as most others around the world, it’s still a formidable weapon of comparable power on the streets of Vibora Bay.

Offensive Functions

Palm & Chest-mounted Laser Beam Emitters - Unlike most powered armours, Shellhead’s basic weapon is the good old-fashioned laser beam. While not as fancy or potentially powerful as other types of particle beam weaponry, the lasers still have enough power to deal with lightly armoured foes, and the chest blaster is capable of giving armoured vehicles (i.e. tanks) a seriously hard time.
Pulson Blaster - Shellhead’s secondary (and arguably much more powerful) weapons system, the Pulson blaster, is fitted into both gauntlets. This weapon has a little more versatility to it compared to the lasers, and much better range. Shellhead is also able to super-charge the weapon, producing a single, massive blast with enough firepower to knock some of the strongest bricks in the world on their posteriors.

Defensive Functions

Steel and Kendrium Armour Plating - The only serious line of defense Shellhead’s armour has, the thick metal plating works much better than the materials it’s made from let on.
Electromagnetic Force Field - A shield that extends from the gauntlets, this force field protects against particle beams, magnetically charged projectiles, and other forms of energy attacks (including spells).

Utilitarian

Rocket Skates - Unlike most powered armours, Shellhead’s main method of propulsion is a pair of rocket-powered roller skates, allowing him to reach the speed of sound relatively quickly.
Jet Pack - An ultra-slim jet pack built under the cape of Shellhead’s armour grants him a small level of autonomous flight.
Augmented Strength - Shellhead’s armour robotics grant him light superhuman strength. Maximum Lifting Capacity: 6.4 metric tons

Relationships

Kiabil

Kiabil is Draconic for “companion.” It refers to someone a dragon trusts completely, and is as close to a dragon as their own mate.

Verin (@Sharp777)

Verin is Edward’s best friend and quasi-partner in fighting evil. He’s also a dragon. Edward is both teammate and conscience for Verin, who currently lacks ethical and moral values, which is one of the bigger causes of their adventures together.

Friends/Allies

Man at Arms [Marcus Asiman] (@LordWisp)

Another hero and a mage native to Vibora Bay, Marcus took Edward into custody when the boy’s father was exposed, and his family killed.

Ferensai (@Sharp777)

Verin’s cousin, and someone who often appears morally questionable, Shellhead has met Ferensai on at least two occasions. While Edward sees him as clearly trustworthy and respectful, the boy is utterly terrified of him, and prefers to maintain a wide berth with the old Siberian. When shit hits the fan, though, there’s no one else he’d rather have at his side (except Verin).

Keilan (@Albert_Wanger)

Shellhead has little to no idea who the goldscale dragon is, only that he’s an ally of Marcus, and clearly benevolent. Despite this, he’s leery of Keilan’s motives, but is willing to work with him if necessary.

Enemies

Veil

An ancient dragon, dating as far back as the Turakian Age, if not longer. Veil is Verin’s father, and a complete monster, and is the dragon Shellhead is famous for slaying early in his campaign against the Circle. However, he’s reemerged on more than one occasion, and so Shellhead has become wary of when, or if, he will return next.

Mildanos

Edward’s father, and just as much a menace to the world as Veil, Mildanos is a Turakian sorcerer who achieved immortality through unknown means, and is believed to be the prime leader of the Circle of the Black Dragon. Edward is obsessed with keeping the man locked away in limbo, lest he bring about Armageddon on the world.

Circle of the Black Dragon

A crazed, dragon worshipping cult whose ultimate goal is to release a “dragon god” from its extraplanar prison, the Circle has become an overt threat to the world since its leader’s revealing. Edward is largely dedicated to seeing this group eradicated, and its members incarcerated.

Public Knowledge and Comments/Rumors

Shellhead is a superhero from Vibora Bay, and has been on the scene for about two years now. He is famous mostly for being a powered armour hero, which is exceedingly rare in that city. The reveal of his true identity has also had an impact on his reputation. While now easier to find information about him, he is adamant about not taking interviews, and remaining off the news as much as possible. As a result, he remains an enigma to the general public, despite his name being known to them.

The Mystic World

Public knowledge of Shellhead comes to a halt with his real name, and the fact he pilots a powered armour. Mystics, however, know a little bit more about him, but not by much. For starters, he’s shown to be clearly aware of magic, and those who use it; he knows who the Archmage is, has had contact with Dr. Ka on occasion, and is very well known across the world for his actions against the evil dragon called Veil, although the exact details of HOW he defeated the monster are unknown, and he certainly isn’t talking about it. Among dragons and mystics outside Vibora Bay, he is known as Hewa di Vyth, which is Draconic for Mage of Steel.

Tropes and Trivia

Tropes

  • Powered Armour
  • Kid Hero – At only 12 years old, he’s not bad.
  • Dragon Companion – He doesn’t ride Verin on his back (usually), being acrophobic, but the two are very competent when fighting alongside one another.

Trivia

  • Shellhead was made as an analog to myself, with the exception of his age (character is younger than author).
  • Edward is a fan of fantasy and science fiction stories. He’s watched Stargate, Star Trek, Battlestar galactica (he never really understood what was going on in that last one), is a fan of the Elder Scrolls series, Legend of Zelda, and has read the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
  • Shellhead is acrophobic, so when Verin takes him flying, he usually doesn’t enjoy it. Of course, when they go flying, it’s usually out of necessity.
