Shadow of Evil

Featuring: Knightshadow

Chapter One

Concealed in shadow, a lone female bounded across a warehouse rooftop in the Easton shore area of Vibora Bay. Her black cape flapping behind her as she negotiated her way to the south east corner of the building. The woman's identity was concealed by a black domino style mask. When dressed this way she went by the name Knighshadow. As she reached the edge of the building, she quickly ducked down behind the building's parapet. She peeked out over the wall and down down at the alley and yard below. Everything seemed quiet.

It was past midnight and at this hour the warehouse yard was empty, save for two men standing guard at the rear of the building. The two rather formidable looking Jamaican men brandished assault rifles and from their positions they had a clear line of sight to the entire yard.. The woman's attention turned from the guards to the roof of the warehouse. There were no visible signs of security on the rooftop.

With an elegant wave of her gloved hand through the night air, a swirling patch of thick inky shadow formed next to her. The patch of blackness grew out of the surrounding shadow and greedily swallowed any light it touched. The patch of shadow grew in size until it was large enough for her to fit inside. At that point she sidestepped into the void and disappeared. Across the yard, in the middle of the other warehouse rooftop a second swirling void formed and and the woman emerged. The patches of shadow then melted away. She did a quick visual inspection of the roof top. She detected nothing that might pose a threat to her. There were no guards, or any other visible security measures that might give away her presence.

The woman maneuvered her way quickly and gracefully toward the skylight. She made sure to stay on the southeast side of the skylight as she looked down into the warehouse, so she would not cast a shadow down into the room and possibly alert any occupants to her presence. From its appearance it was likely that the skylight has not been cleaned in quite some time. The grime on the window pane made it difficult to see anything, other than diffuse light coming from within. She rubbed window pane with he sleeve. It quickly became obvious the dirt was not coming off easily.

She crouched low next to the skylight, with her eyes closed and breathing in and out slowly. After several moments of concentration her minds eye reached out from the shadows inside the warehouse. There was a good deal of activity inside the building as a small group of workers loaded boxes onto a truck. Standing back and off to left side were a couple more guards with assault rifles, they appeared to be Jamaican. A man in an expensive looking tailored business suit seemed to be overseeing the operation. His raven colored hair, which was formed into dreadlocks, and his round style sunglasses gave one the impression he wasn't the wall street executive type. The presence of the Jamaicans made it a pretty good bet this was a Sovereign Sons gang operation. The only question was what in those boxes? Was it drug? Or, perhaps something else? The woman knew there was only one way to get answers to her questions.

From her vantage point in the shadows, she mentally scanned the area for the best spot to make her entrance. She quickly found the ideal spot. It was a catwalk running along the upper wall near the ceiling. There was plenty of shadow for her to hide in. With a slight nod of her head and a wave of her hand she created a dark void that she climbed into and disappeared from the rooftop. Almost instantly a second void appeared on the catwalk above the warehouse floor. She stepped out of the void and into the shadows. With a thought she appeared to melt away into the darkness, becoming invisible to anyone who might look in her direction.

Hidden from sight she crouched low on the deck of the catwalk, looking out over the warehouse floor. The man in the suit appeared frustrated as he gestured emphatically toward his underlings. “Rhaatid! Dis a taking too lang. Hurry up and get it dun. Wi ave a schedule to kip.” The man shouted angrily in a thick Jamaican accent. After which the workers could be visibly seen to increase their pace. The woman used that as a distraction to leap down from the catwalk. Under the cover of shadows she managed to do so without being seen. However, to her stunned amazement the man in the suit alerted to the faint sound of her boots making contact with the wooden crates she landed on. The man glared in the direction of the crates she was now hiding behind. His eyes scanning the shadows for possible threats.

The man motioned at the guards, “Mi hear sup'm. Guh si wah it is.” he barked at them, while point in the direction of the crates. The two guards did not hesitate to obey the man. Much to Knightshadow's concern. She stepped back further into the shadows until she backed into a large crate. The overwhelming stench of decomposition came from inside the crate. She let out a scream as a dead desiccated hand reached out through a hole in the side of the crate and grasped for her arm. The guards now alerted to her position moved toward her with their weapons ready.
