Scythe was a popular superhero during the 1990's. He was known primarily for a dark, gothic persona. He was one of an upcropping of darker-themed heroes that emerged in the late 80's and early 90's. He was once on the cover of Vanity Fair. He briefly married Jade Phoenix and fathered Nick Phoenix. His powers came from mutation and were primarily related to wind manipulation.

Scythe suffered chronic pain from injuries sustained during his career and became addicted to painkillers as a result. He died from a heart attack in his home in Seattle in 2006. It is believed to have been caused by an overdose. He was 46 years old.
