Personality

Tania al-Sharani keeps her enemies close.

With a friendly demeanour and a knack for ingratiating herself with powerful people, Tania al-Sharani is never afraid to turn on the charm if it suits her ends. A cunning and watchful manipulator, it is difficult to say where the facade ends and the person begins. Despite being known in certain circles as a socialite, she has few close friends and her personal life is something of a mystery.

In reality Tania's public face is only one side of the coin. Her natural poise and easy-going manner conceal more animalistic tendancies, many of which come to the surface when she dons the mask. Sharp-eyed and nimble, Scratch is a skilled infiltrator with a powerful curiosity and a talent for acquiring things that aren't hers. Though she fills the role of a catburgler nicely, her real currency is in secrets and she is more akin to a spy or information broker. Nothing is more valuable to her than information and the pursuit of wealth is only a side-effect of her ultimate pursuit of knowledge and, by extension, influence. She is very opportunistic and always willing to consort with the scum of the underworld when they are of use to her. Both heroes and villains may find themselves in her debt, or double-crossed if they are not careful. When driven to attack she can be vicious, using lightning strikes and sharp metal claws to quickly discourage anything in her way.

Her attitude towards heroes is to treat them as a curiosity and occasional inconvenience. Whilst her escapades are not always above board they are more often than not of benefit to the city in some way, and she has even been known to work alongside heroes towards a common goal. The heroes of the city may look on her as just another troublemaker, but in truth she may be more useful to them than they care to admit.

History

Catscratch made a name for herself as a crimefighter in the UK and quickly drew the attention of the fledgling Bureau S. They suspected that she was a superhuman of some description owing to her extraordinary skills. It is believed that they tried to make contact with her in the months following her first appearances in the underworld. However, Catscratch's methods became more and more aggressive and culminated in an explosive spree of unsanctioned mob killings. Now pursued by authorities, Catscratch popped up on the grid a number of times in the following decade before her apparent death in Tokyo City at the hands of the Yakuza.

Rumors abound that her death was a staged event and that her disappearance from the public eye marked the beginning of a period of employment by the British government.
