Origin and History
The Basics (temporary)
When Martin Jacobs and Grace Lowry, Silver Avengers for the American law enforcement agency known as PRIMUS, decided to get married, they had no idea what effect their career choices would have on their future children. Unknown to the public (and probably to the Silver Avengers themselves), the “drug” Cyberline that gave the Silver Avengers their increased strength, speed and endurance was actually a form of genetic engineering using the DNA of several metahumans.
Jump forward several years: Fifteen-year-old Kenzie Jacobs had been a superhero fangirl for as long as she could remember, and her dream was to become a reporter for SNN, the Super News Network. Everything changed one morning when she tripped while rushing to get ready for school and found herself surrounded by a red glow that protected her. She spent the next several weeks experimenting, discovering her ability to fly and to generate force fields that she could use defensively, to protect both herself and others, as well as offensively. To her delight she realized that rather than just telling the world about superheroes, she could be one.
The last several years have been a wild ride, beyond anything Kenzie could have imagined for herself. As Scarlet Shield, Kenzie has fought alongside – and against – gods, cosmic entities, angels and devils, armies, monsters and other metahumans. She has helped save the world and witnessed the destruction of a parallel Earth. She has traveled around the world, to the Moon, and through time. She even reluctantly sat on the throne of a small island nation for a couple days during a civil war and, with her teammates in the Adventurers, helped the warring factions negotiate a peace treaty. Through it all she has managed to keep her innocence and optimism, and usually has a shy smile for the people around her. With the help of her friends, family and teammates, Kenzie is finally growing into the role she has chosen for herself and becoming the kind of hero she still idolizes in others.

Powers, Skills, and Attributes
Powers
- Kenzie's top flight speed is approximately 200 mph/320kmh.
- She can fire small, rapid-fire bursts of energy that individually do little damage but can be used to harass and distract opponents and have a cumulative effect. Maximum range for the bursts is fifty feet.
- She can fire a large, five-foot-diameter force "cylinder" powerful enough to destroy a VIPER Anaconda tank. The cylinder takes two seconds to charge to full power and its maximum range is one hundred feet.
- She can augment her strength somewhat when striking a target with her fists, allowing her to throw a punch with the force of a heavyweight boxer.
- She can generate an explosive burst of energy in a ten-foot radius around herself. The burst does minimal damage but will knock anyone within range up to forty feet away from her in every direction and requires one second to charge to full power. She prefers not to use this when friends, allies or innocent bystanders are within range.
- She can generate a personal forcefield that protects her from attacks. The field is able to withstand an attack equal in force to a blow from one of Grond's fists, but the protection it provides diminishes as it takes damage. If an attack equal in strength to a punch from Grond is followed by a second attack of similar power before her force field can return to something close to full strength, it will be disabled temporarily and leave her vulnerable.
- She can generate forcefields around others at about 75% of her own forcefield's strength. As with her personal forcefield, the protection provided by these diminishes as they take damage, though Kenzie can slow this by focusing and feeding energy to them. She can shield up to six others within fifty feet of her in any direction at one time, but must establish each field individually. Establishing the fields requires her target to be in her line of sight, though she just has to be near them with no barriers between them and her once a field is in place. The fields' duration depends on the number of people she's protecting and how much damage they take. The more people she protects at one time, the greater the chance of overextending herself, temporarily disabling the power.
- She can generate forcefields around everyone within forty feet in any direction simultaneously at about 33% of her own forcefield's strength. The duration and other details match those of the individual forcefields listed above, except the need for line-of-sight. Kenzie prefers not to use this power if opponents are within range as it doesn't discriminate between friends, enemies and innocent bystanders.
- She can project an energy shield in front of herself that triples her defenses (more or less) for a short period of time but also slows her movement to walking speed on the ground or about 10% of her maximum flight speed in the air and prevents her from doing anything else while the shield is active. The exact upper limit of this power is unknown; she managed to hold off the Multifarian avatar of the Greek god Ares with it once for a short time, just long enough for help to arrive. She only uses the shield as a last resort, as it drains her energy reserves quickly and leaves her completely powerless for several minutes (at least) afterward.
- She can surround a target with a containment field, which has the opposite effect of her other forcefields: instead of protecting the target from outside attacks the field defends against internal attacks, effectively imprisoning the target. The containment field only works at about 65% of her personal forcefield's strength while requiring more concentration. She has been improving this ability with practice and hopes to continue doing so.
- She can generate a tiny forcefield, the size of a pea or smaller, in a relatively small empty space and expand it to fill that space, causing pressure against whatever surrounds the space. She uses this power sparingly and has only used it on a living person once (plugging the nostril of a supervillain who had captured her, until he agreed to let her go).
- She can form fairly simple shapes with her forcefield energy, which can be used for various purposes (such as creating a flat surface over a hole or reinforcing a damaged support column).
- At a former teammate's suggestion, Kenzie tried using her forcefield energy to animate inanimate objects. She succeeded with an old teddy bear from her childhood, using it to harass and distract opponents until the bear eventually fell apart from the damage it took, but has so far been unable to reproduce the result with anything else.
Skills
- Kenzie was taught basic self defense while attending Hero Corps Academy, a government-run, Ravenswood Academy-type school for young metahumans on an alternate Earth.
- She also learned CPR and basic first aid at Hero Corps Academy, and keeps these skills up-to-date by taking periodic refresher courses offered by the Millennium City Fire Department.
- She was taught basic tactics and teamwork, as well, at Hero Corps Academy.
- She was "taught" American Sign Language by a powerful entity known as the Dreamer so that she could communicate with the Dreamer's host at the time, a young deaf girl. The knowledge has come in handy on a few other occasions since then.
- She has learned basic journalism skills through working on her high school's newspaper and summer intern jobs with WCOC and the Millennium City Free Press. She has an Associate Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Wayne County Community College's Northwest Campus.
- She has extensive knowledge of metahumans for someone her age, due to several years of diligently researching the world's metahumans online. She is currently a student at Millennium City University where she started out with a double major in Journalism and Metahuman studies but eventually switched the Journalism major to History after deciding that she would rather be a historian than a reporter.
Attributes
- She's a fast runner, though not superhumanly so, or even on par with an Olympic athlete. Growing up in Cobra Lords territory, she had to be able to run fast.
