The Scarlet Mirage - or simply The Mirage - is a magic user hailing from the United Kingdom, who has recently become active as a hero in Millenium City. Since then, she has achieved a lesser degree of renown, particularly with law enforcement agencies, whom she often cooperates with.
She has no known prior record of vigilantism before appearing in Millenium City in late 2014 and was unheard of before.
In her civilian identity, she is a journalism student at the Millenium City University (MCU) and writes for a student newspaper.

Description

The Scarlet Mirage is a young woman in her mid-twenties, is almost 6 feet tall, sports silver hair and her irises glow in a faint violet. In her civilian guise, she hides this through the use of sorcery, her hair appearing black and her eyes green respectively. She is an adept, if still somewhat inexperienced magic user, vigilante and adventurer. In her civilian life she works as a freelance photographer and reporter and studies journalism at the Millenium City University.

When she first appeared publically in Millenium City, saving a small group of civilians from Purple Gang thugs, a civilian asked her who she is - she answered, with a smile, "I'm just a mirage." The 'Scarlet' stems from the fact that most of the costumes she's been spotted with feature shades of the colour red. She never actually called herself by that moniker.

Immidiatetely after coming to the United States, officially in order to study journalism in Millenium City, she readily registered with Primus and was very forthcoming in cooperating with the authorities. However, while the papers she's using appear to be legitimate, there's faint evidence that the identity she registered with might be fake.

Activity

September/2014: Elizabeth Kensington arrives in Millenium City with a F1 Student Visa and enrolls at the MCU as a journalism student.

A heroine later dubbed the Scarlet Mirage appears for the first time in West Side, Millenium City. Later that year she reportedly lends assistance against the threat posed by Mechanon.

November/2014: A Primus investigation with authorities in the United Kingdom, regarding the authenticity of Elizabeth Kensington's identity, yields no evidence that might point towards a forgery. Everything seems perfectly fine. Perhaps too perfect.

January/2015: Elizabeth Kensington begins working as a freelance photographer and writes for a student newspaper at the MCU.

The Scarlet Mirage is reported to have thwarted schemes of DEMON and Viper.

April/2015: A Millennium City University students' newspaper releases a series of articles about a number of superheroes, written by MCU journalism student Elizabeth Kensington. Some of these articles include short interviews. Featured heroes include Defender, Sapphire, Thundrax and Professor Mystic. Unfortunately, Nighthawk wasn't available for an interview.

May/2015: Due to the actions of the Mirage, Sigmar "The Inquisitor" Anderson, an insane zealot and supervillain, is incarcerated in Stronghold prison.

Personality

In her civilian identity, Elizabeth Kensigton is friendly and markedly polite, she doesn't socialize often and one could even say she has a rather shy disposition.

As the Scarlet Mirage, her behavior is decidedly different. While in costume, the Mirage has been noted to behave gleefully, invidious and downright spiteful towards her opponents, sometimes even towards allies to some degree, often on the verge of arrogance. This however, downplays the fact that she often acts kindly and compassionate towards allies and the innocent.

While she tries to fight tactically, she still sometimes gets into difficult situations, if only due to her relative lack of experience and her tendency to work alone. She keeps other heroes at a distance and is not very forthcoming with details about herself to others.

Background

Elizabeth Kensington claims to hail from Bexley, a borough of London. According to her, she is the sole child of mundane middle-class parents and her powers began manifesting slowly with the onset of puberty. She also asserts that she always kept her abilities a secret and never fought criminals before coming to Millenium City.

While there is indeed no prior record of any acts of vigilantism on her part in the United Kingdom or elsewhere and evidence of the contrary is lacking, there are some who suspect that the identity of Elizabeth Kensington is fake, albeit a good one.

A few people have contended - without putting forth any hard evidence however, that the Scarlet Mirage shares some similarity in outward appearance and manifested powers with Alexandrine Deruisseau, who gained some infamy in Europe as the villain 'Mystère Argente' for a short time, before disappearing in the wake of an incident in 2009.

During this incident, the Mystère Argente attempted to utilize ancient arcane geometry to shunt the city of London into a small pocket dimension of her own, where she intended to claim rulership over the dimensionally displaced city. Before she could execute her plan, however, she was thwarted by a team of upstart european heroes.

Details of the incident are obscure, but it has been reported that Mystère Argente was inadvertetly killed by the heroes. This seems unlikely however, as she returned a short time later, in order to exact revenge and attempt to execute her plan one more time. Again she was thwarted and dissappeared without a trace afterwards.

Powers and Skills

The Scarlet Mirage has so far displayed various feats of sorcery. Among her powers are the abilities to project arcane energies, confuse and hinder her opponents.
Further she has demonstrated that she is capable of short range teleporation, high velocity flight, some limited healing magic and generating a magic shield capable of deflecting and blocking attacks, regardless of their nature.
Apart from abilities that help her in a fight, she is presumed to be knowledgeable about various spells, arcane feats and occult lore.

Flaws

While boasting about her arcane skills and powers in her role of as a hero, her inexperience and tendency to avoid the help of others have more than a few times gotten her into dicey situations, from whose she barely escaped more or less unscathed.
What she tries to obscure is, that she is not quite as confident in her abilities as she claims to be. Further, she is dreadfully terrified of possibly not being able to keep the uninvolved out of harms way.</p>

Despite all display of arcane might, she is, in the end, still just a human being.
