Biography

Douglas Carter is a man who embodies grit, heart, and unyielding determination. Born and raised in the streets of Westside, he and his brother faced life’s hardships head on. From an early age, Douglas learned that the odds were stacked against him, but he also learned to fight; first for survival, then for a brighter future. Tragically, his brother lost his life, a casualty of the dangerous cycle of gang activity that plagued their neighborhood. Determined to break free from that path, Douglas stepped into a role he never asked for but embraced fully: caretaker to his young nephews and nieces, vowing to give them a life far removed from the shadows that claimed his brother’s life.

By day, he toiled as a construction worker, his hands calloused from long hours shaping the city’s skyline. By night, those same hands were wrapped in gloves, fighting in underground boxing rings to keep electricity running and food on the table. It wasn’t glamorous, and it wasn’t easy, but for Douglas, family came first, no matter the cost.

Everything changed the day he was contracted to clear an old industrial lot for redevelopment. As he guided the excavators deeper into the site, they unearthed a hidden chamber, its walls etched with alien symbols that pulsed faintly in the dim light. Among the rubble lay an ancient, otherworldly hammer, emanating unknown power.

Driven by a mix of curiosity and an inexplicable pull, Douglas reached out and grabbed the hammer. It responded instantly, its energy coursing through him like a second heartbeat. To his astonishment, the solid metal stand it rested on began to twist and mold under his slightest touch, as if waiting for his command. The hammer had chosen him, granting him the power to reshape materials with precision. Though its design was tempered with a failsafe; it would not alter organic life, a testament to its unknown creator’s intent.

Understanding the hammer’s potential, Douglas sought the help of his best friend, Maya King, a brilliant engineer known for her work designing suits and gadgets for heroes. Together, they developed a gauntlet to mount the hammer, allowing him to harness its full potential without limiting his mobility. She then crafted the Tonka Armor, a sleek, durable suit powered by the hammer’s energy, designed to amplify his strength and protect him in both construction sites and combat zones.

From the moment he donned the armor, Douglas Carter became more than a construction worker or a boxer. He became Roadblock, a protector of Westside and a symbol of resilience. Whether rebuilding what was destroyed or standing against corruption and crime, Roadblock uses his skills and newfound power to ensure others never have to face their battles alone.

Skills and Abilities

Stoneheart: A mysterious, sentient hammer discovered by Roadblock during an excavation. Stoneheart has bonded with him and cannot be wielded by anyone else.

Material Manipulation: Allows Roadblock to reshape inorganic materials he touches, creating structures, traps, or weapons. Built-in safety protocols prevent use on organic matter or materials carrying electrical currents.

Energy Storage: Absorbs and stores kinetic energy from usage, doubling as a power source.

Returning Weapon: Stoneheart can return to Roadblock on command. If restrained, Roadblock is instead pulled to the hammer.

Hand-to-Hand Combat: A background in street fighting, boxing, and wrestling enables Roadblock to utilize Stoneheart in a unique fighting style that leverages his surroundings.

Tonka Armor: Custom power armor designed to complement Stoneheart’s abilities.

Enhanced Strength: Amplifies Roadblock’s physical power and reduces fatigue.

Increased Durability: Provides protection against physical and environmental hazards.

Variable Candela Headlight: Adjustable brightness for blinding or disorienting foes.

Pipe Down: Shoulder-mounted exhausts emit a tear gas-like substance to incapacitate enemies.

Backup Battery: Allows functionality while separated from Stoneheart.

Identity Concealment: Goggles that digitally alter the upper half of Roadblock's face.

Weaknesses

Extreme Cold: Severely limits Stoneheart’s functionality.

Organic Restraints: Stoneheart cannot manipulate organic matter, restricting its versatility in certain scenarios.

Prolonged Separation: Time away from Stoneheart weakens Roadblock’s armor systems.
