BIOGRAPHY
ORIGIN
Teddy Taylor was born in East London as an orphan. His mother Rosie passed away during childbirth, the identity and condition of his father is unknown. He spent his youth in and out of foster-care, juvenile custody or out on the streets. Angry, misguided and mistreated, he soon fell under the influence of local crime boss George Grantham; known to many as “King George”. Seeing the potential in using a sharp young boy as a thief, he offered Teddy protection and refuge in return for stolen goods.
By his early teens Teddy had become a skilled and savvy cat-burglar. But as the risk and worth of each new job rose higher, he noticed George become ever more maniacal and short-tempered. One night Teddy was tasked with breaking into Britannia Manor, the home of well known physicist and wealthy aristocrat Percival Bartlett. As he snuck through the manor he was caught red-handed by Percival, who warned him that a life of crime is no life at all. The aristocrat pressed Teddy as to who sent him, but the young boy fled and escaped.
He returned to the criminal hideout empty handed where George, furious at the boy’s failure, prepared to punish him by removing one of his fingers “as a lesson”. He was then startlingly rescued by Mr Britain, a premiere superhero of Great Britain, who made quick work of George and his gang. When the hero learned Teddy now had nowhere else to go, he offered him a place at his home. Removing his mask, Mr Britain revealed himself to be none other than Percival Bartlett.
BRIT BOY
Teddy flourished under Percival’s supervision; he restarted his education and took on a whole range of activities, almost as if catching up on lost time. His confidence grew by day, as did his respect and admiration for the man who took him in. He would catch news reels and paper clippings of Mr Britain’s exploits, and Teddy knew he wanted to follow in the hero’s footsteps one day.
Shortly after Teddy’s fifteenth birthday, he snuck into the boot of Mr Britain’s car as the hero prepared to answer a disturbance in Central London. Mr Britain arrived at his destination just in time to find Green Mantis, an old foe of his, absconding from the scene of a bank heist. In the ensuing car chase, Mantis’ vehicle was sent crashing into a closed construction site and the hero rushed out to confront him. As the encounter unfolded, Green Mantis managed to trap Mr Britain under a cement funnel and watched in delight as the wet pour slid towards his nemesis. But the villain had not counted on the appearance of Teddy, who knocked Mantis unconscious and shut off the cement pour in the nick of time. Percival promised from that day onwards he would mentor the young boy as his sidekick and Teddy took on the mantle of Brit Boy! Over the passing years Mr Britain and Brit Boy shared many adventures, taking down formidable foes such as Caledonian, Spitfire and The Druid; as well as disrupting villainous organisations like The Black Tie Club, DIVISION13, VIPER and the Mile End Mob.
DYNAMIC DUO
At eighteen Teddy enrolled at Westminster University, studying Criminology alongside Bartlett family friend Ciaran Tafari. When Teddy discovered Ciaran was also moonlighting as a vigilante, the crime fighting duo of Brit Boy and Red Lion was born. Together the pair took on various street gangs and some minor supervillains like Greyhound, Marble Man, and Green Knight. They also rescued The Mayor of London from a kidnapping plot and later were involved in a joint operation against a VIPER nest alongside Mr Britain and a few members of the London Watch.
Upon their graduation, Ciaran took on his ancestral mantle of Iron Lion and left for Millennium City, beginning his hunt for the forces of VIPER. Meanwhile with Mr Britain becoming less active due to age, Teddy vowed he would try and fill the gap left by his mentor.
REDCOAT
Teddy left Britannia Manor and moved into a small apartment in Aldgate. From here he set out to serve his city and watch over the streets of London Town. However, feeling he had outgrown the Brit Boy mantle, he created a new alter-ego and so became Redcoat. Relying on his guile, agility and fighting ability, not to mention the odd gadget; he proves a formidable opponent to the criminals of his city.
After some initial success breaking up a Triad extortion racket in Chinatown and then bringing down an East End heist outfit, Redcoat had his first high profile incident when he prevented the Bombardier’s attempt to blow up Scotland Yard. Following this, Redcoat was approached by the Ministry of Superhuman Affairs with an offer to become an endorsed agent, an offer he accepted.
Today Redcoat continues to operate out of his London headquarters, though his assignments with the MSA often take him all over the globe.
