    Summary

Anastasia "Staci" Boer took the name of Psyfire in honor of her former mentor, Psy-borg/Psystorm and her father, Wildfire. Retired as a roboticist and munitions specialist known as Little Bo Bleep, she has fully embraced her abilities as a psion and a precog, helping those who are unable to communicate as well as helping emerging psions and other metahumans cope with their newfound abilities. Psyfire is co-chief of the Arete Vanguard, and also serves as its Chaplain. Her duties including working as a celebrant, minister, counselor. She often holds group counseling sessions for heroes to vent and trade advice and support.

Staci is kind, polite, and helpful. Pensive, graceful, and sometimes moody (due to strong migraines), she enjoys Grond hunting, dancing, spending time with friends, and reading the Bible.

    Early Life

Anastasia Stephanie Dean Boer was born in New Mexico on September 1, 1986 to Steven Boer and his young wife Katherine. Staci spent twenty-two years of her life on her father's ranch and personal base of operations. With her mother out of the picture by the time she was three, Staci grew incredibly attached to her father, wanting nothing more than to be "just like him." Home schooled and rather sheltered, her only friend was a boy by the name of Benjamin Bates, the only son of Steven's fallen colleague, who Steven took in as his own.

Steven kept a very regular exercise regimen for the family. Mornings began an hour-long morning jog, followed by at least an hour of calisthenics. These strenuous sessions served to burn excess energy produced by an artificial set of metahuman abilities. Staci and Benjamin served as guinea pigs without any knowledge. Staci believed that she had merely inherited her father's regenerative properties. She would continue these exercises until her psionic abilities were realized. It would be the start of her career that lead to her awakening, revealing that Staci was actually a psion.

    Arrival

    September 2009

    "Bo" with Duke and Razz.

Her arrival to Millennium City under the name Little Bo Bleep met a great deal of skepticism from officers, soldiers, and the hero community. Eager to prove herself, she demonstrated her proficiency in firearms and robotics, putting them to use in order to help defeat the Qularr during the invasion in 2009. Staci was most noted for her bright pink pigtails, pink temporary tattoos, small frame, and large amount of courage. Staci decided to set up shop in Millennium, banding with various heroes and organizations to help fight crime.

Despite her aloof mannerisms, she often endeared herself people to her and quickly made friends from all walks of life. Her free time was spent in Club Caprice, dancing and chatting up the locals. Many of her stronger bonds would originate at the club - several romantic interests, close friends, and even family. The first of these would be a cybernetic military grunt by the name of Jason Range. Staci confronted Range in Club Caprice when he remarked on her "lack of clothing." After a few drink and some candid discussion, they took an interest in one another and quickly became an item. Ignorant, hot-headed, jealous, and emotionally abusive, he would often cause Staci distress. It was common knowledge that flirting with her would end in a challenge from him, and that the fight would always end with him face down on the dance floor of the club.

The greatest divide between Range and her beau was Staci's best friend and confidant, Psy-Borg, a cybernetic being housing the psionic forms of Daniel Tailor (Psystorm) and his uncle. Staci met Psy-Borg when a group of heroes gathered to take down a malfunctioning Mega Destroyer one evening. For the first time, she was truly attracted to someone. When all hope seemed lost, the other fledgling heroes abandoned her, leaving her to fight the gigantic droid alone. She sent a distress call over the team communicator link, hoping one of them would answer. Daniel was the only one to return and help her take down the menacing robot. They celebrated with a drink and a dance, becoming fast friends. In a short time, they became inseparable. Others such as Sky Lark, Night-Strike, Christopher D.A.R.K., Jade and Aphrodite would become a part of a circle of beloved, trusted friends.

Psionic Awakening & The Blood Moon

    September 2009 - November 2009

    A celebration dance with Psyborg.
    Staci as Psyborg's thrall.

As her relationship with Range began to deteriorate, he would disappear for days at a time without notice. Staci confided in Daniel, asking him to use his abilities to help her forget the emotional pain Jason was causing. His uncle took the opportunity to mind lock Staci and make her his thrall. Keeping her "psychically doped up," Psyborg managed to have Staci run several operations for him in his native Canada until she was able to fight back and gain control of her mind once more. The experience left her with the imprint of two telepaths on her psyche - Psy-Borg's, and her mother's. This caused her innate psionic abilities to awaken.

At the end of her battle against Psy-Borg, Range and Night-Strike found her bloodied and severely injured. Range proceeded to pull a gun on Staci and threaten her life while Night-Strike attempted to defile the Psy-Borg chassis. She managed to get away, escaping to a nearby Hunter-Patriot camp. Without her knowledge, she willed them to treat her injuries, her new abilities affording her a day's rest before she had to escape once again. Returning to the scene of their battle, she managed to gather Psy-Borg's chassis, bringing it back with her to Millennium City and attempting to repair the damage and save Daniel. Despite the occurrence, she never lost faith or trust in Daniel. Instead, she clung to him fiercely.

When her father learned of what occurred, he came to visit Staci and confessed to some of the secrets and lies he had kept for the length of her life. Steven told her of how her mother had not died, but was instead imprisoned in Stronghold for murder. He confessed to lying about Benjamin's death, revealing that he was indeed Sacrilege - her self-proclaimed cybernetic nemesis. And finally, he explained to Staci that she inherited her psionic properties from her mother. When she learned that her abilities were intentionally suppressed the bulk of her life, she never viewed her father in the same light.

Staci often suffered from headaches and nosebleeds when her psionic abilities emerged, due to the fact that she was unable to filter or block the constant streams of thought around her. The once goofy, fun-loving girl was now a brooding, exhausted mess. The club, once her sanctuary, became her hell. Jason returned, begging for forgiveness. Promising only to forgive, she attempted to rebuild whatever it was she had with him. However, Staci could never forget what he constantly put her through, or the fact that he held a gun to her face in her moment of need for no reason other than pride.

One evening, while sitting by the fountain in the lounge with friends, she heard the voice of a stranger. She begged the voice to reveal itself. After being instructed to meet him alone by Champions HQ, she came face to face with the mysterious Mind Bomb, a former MCPD officer named Justin Cavanaugh who became a psion via an accident. He provoked her to fight, and it was only her raw power that earned her her victory. Eventually, the two would become friends. Daniel confided in Justin, telling him of his feelings for Staci, but Justin disregarded the confession. Even as Staci stated that she was in love with Daniel, Justin kept Daniel's message to himself. When she had finally given up hope, Staci and Justin became lovers.

Range decided to leave Millennium City to spend time in Tibet to quell his anger issues in a futile attempt to gain Staci back. To everyone's surprise and confusion, he returned four days later in a demonic form. Range hired a mercenary by the name of War Wolf to harass and attempt to murder Staci and her friends. Range's failed attempts to place her under his enslavement were finally met with a challenge from Staci. Her friends at her side but unable to fight, she verbally confronted Range who then shot her in the shoulder. Despite her injury, she managed to beat Range, causing him to flea and never be heard from again. It is rumored that he was eventually murdered in Caprice.

Immediately after the battle, Daniel arrived with his friend Seer to inform the gang that he would be shutting down the Psy-Borg chassis and releasing his ego form. Staci was so deeply crushed that the day he powered off she returned home to New Mexico to mourn him alone. She spent days in her old workshop, thinking of him, building what she affectionately referred to as "their love child", naming it "Bo-Bot." Her constant thought of Daniel gave him a focal point, his ego form collecting around her will and taking shape into a being of pure thought. Daniel's return as Psystorm was an emotional occasion for the group. While ecstatic and grateful for his return, Staci kept her distance while he gained his strength for fear that she would be moved to betray Justin.

    The Boer-Cavanaugh Wedding.

Justin proposed to Staci shortly after the two became exclusive. A deity of night calling itself Sapphira Nyx often visited Justin, reminding him of his treachery. In keeping to himself the knowledge that Staci and Daniel were in love with one another, he had altered their paths and upset a balance. Despite her warnings, he kept the knowledge to himself and told Nyx that he would marry Staci no matter what. The wedding was a small, private ceremony held in City Hall and officiated by Blue Bruiser. Their whirlwind romance would come to an end only a week after the nuptials, when Nyx and an entity calling himself Erebos Shalim, offered Justin a temptation that was beyond refusal. The two deities offered to return to life his dead wife and child, in return for the commitment he made to Staci. Forbidden to even offer a proper goodbye, Justin took the offer, wanting nothing more than to see his child again.

Broken, Staci withdrew into herself and began divorce proceedings. During an outing with friends, she met Lucas Talbot Ravage, a sweet, kind-hearted lycan associated with the now-defunct organization, Dark Destiny. The two got along well until she found out that Ravage had relations with her mother, the escaped convict known as Psiren. She promptly stopped speaking to Lucas, her pride too injured to allow herself to begin anything with him. Meanwhile, Psystorm was gaining strength, and was finally able to emerge in a corporeal form. As he grew stronger, Nyx and Erebos worked to bring the two together and salvage their fate. Eventually, the two would meet again for what felt like the first time underneath the Blood Moon. Handsome, charming, and gentle as ever, Daniel declared his love for Staci. The coupling was met with a great deal of approval from both family and friends. Marking this as the beginning of her new life, she changed her call-name to Psyfire - a combination of her father's and her beloved's hero names.

    Fully Awakened

    November 2009 - July 2011

Psiren and Psyfire have their final confrontation as enemies.

Staci and Danny's relationship grew stronger by the day. For Christmas, he proposed to her and she accepted. Before they could set a date, Psystorm disappeared. Frantic, she did her best to contact him via their telepathic link, but she was unsuccessful. Broken and alone once again, she began to live her life as a hermit, rarely venturing out of her home. Her stepsister and best friend Kylie Monroe (Sky Lark) invited her to join her organization, Sanctuary. Staci served with them briefly, maintaining a line of communication with Canadian heroes. However, her career with Sanctuary would be short-lived.

During this time, Staci would come face to face with her mother, Katherine Dean - the villain known as Psiren. Just barely emerging from their final battle victorious, Staci was able to quell the rage within her mother. This was her first major victory as a psionic hero. After some time, they managed to become civil. Kate made peace with her daughter before her untimely death at the hands of VIPER agents. Staci began to regret honoring her father when she learned that her mother was driven to madness by his neglect and infidelity. Steven Boer's careless treatment of his young wife would send the psion into a psychotic break, leading her to manipulate and murder numerous men. Out of fear, Steven Boer had any emerging psionic abilities suppressed in young Staci in hopes that she wouldn't become the next Psiren. Father and daughter have been estranged ever since.

One evening, Staci went on a rare outing in order to get some exercise. She ran into Ravage and found that the sparks between them were still there. Unhappy in his marriage, and fairly certain that she had once again been abandoned, they confided in one another. Despite her hurt and anger towards Daniel, she ultimately resisted temptation while he was gone, returning into seclusion in order to keep things that way. Ravage was left disappointed, and he eventually decided to move on and ultimately find happiness. After four months of waiting, Staci decided it was over. She began packing to return home to New Mexico when she was struck with a blinding headache. A vision of the apocalypse plagued her thoughts and, eventually, dreams. She walked through the vision, her psionic abilities strengthening as she journeyed through it. When she came to, she found herself at the docks of Vibora Bay. Alone and shaken, she found a place to stay, showered, and headed to the Bayou Queen for a drink. She ran into Ravage once again, sharing a last kiss. Staci decided to move to Vibora and leave everything behind in order to start anew.

Despite her move, Staci spent a good deal of time in the Canadian wilderness culling demons and studying the bible. It was at this time she met Michael, leader of the demon hunting organization D.I.V.I.N.E. Impressed by her psionic and precognative abilities, he hired her to the team. She began to regret her move to Vibora as she found her work constantly calling her to Canada and Millennium City. It was during one of these trips that she and Kylie ran into one another and decided to have a few drinks together. While she was talking to new and old friends, Daniel appeared. Unsure of how to feel, she refused to approach him. He explained that he was away with a time rifting associate calling himself The Insomniac. After some time, she took him back and they set their wedding date for June 6th.

Shortly after his return, Daniel disappeared once again, leaving her to reach the conclusion that it wasn't meant to be. This did not stop her from waiting for him the day of their wedding in a beautiful silver satin wedding gown. Being left at the altar pushed Staci into Michael's arms. They became something of an item, but Staci would end up leaving Michael and his organization in order to begin her own practice in hopes of salvaging the broken pieces of her life and learning to live with herself. Little did she know that this all began with Justin's secrecy. Because of it, Danny and Staci would never be what they were once fated to be.

After her brief time with D.I.V.I.N.E., Staci returned to Sanctuary in the summer of 2010 and incorporated her counseling practice and ministry into the organization. Shortly after her return, Sanctuary faced litigation. Another non-profit, The Theta Foundation, brought a lawsuit against Sanctuary for theft and destruction of property. Without Sky Lark's leadership, and a proper legal team, Theta was rewarded for all damages, and Sanctuary was left bankrupt. Staci continued to run Sanctuary along with long-time friend and teammate, Damager, until all hope was lost for the team.

Early 2011 found Sanctuary being rescued by La Mariposa, who sought to integrate what was left of Sanctuary into The Arete Vanguard. Damager fought the merger for as long as he can, losing the battle in July of 2011. Staci did her best to help him come to terms with the merger, deciding that perhaps some time away from the team would do him some good. After the birth of their twins, La Mariposa and Resolute were all too happy to see the merger finally go through, using the opportunity to appoint additional leadership. Staci is currently serving as Arete's chief and counselor.

    Staci's Practice

    Present Day

Along with her duties as one of Arete's chiefs, Staci continues to operate a private practice she began in the circa April of 2010. The practice is funded by donations and grants. Although not a doctor, her psionic abilities enable her to help others struggling with various mental, emotional, and physical issues. While she does have private appointments, she regularly holds open group therapy sessions, maintaining a safe place for anyone to speak or listen, as well as offer support and advice.

    Powers

Once awakened, the flood of psionic abilities threatened to destroy Staci's mind. It was through concentration, sheer will, and the aid of Psystorm and Mind Bomb that she learned to cope with and use her abilities.

    Innate Abilities

    • Telepathy/Empathy
    • Telekinesis
    • Biokinesis
    • Precognition

    Skills

Staci, like her father, was a munitions specialist and roboticist. From a young age, she was able to combine both skills, often using them to build munition drones and the like. She has a varied collection of firearms which she has either built or repaired herself, but she rarely uses them outside of occasional target practice these days.

    Vulnerabilities

Staci is mortal. However, her strength of will and precognition keep her safe from most threats.

    Personal Life

    Relationships

Psyfire has never had much luck with the opposite sex, mostly due to her formerly aloof yet trusting nature. Having grown up in an unpopulated area, most of her social interactions occurred between her father, Benjamin, and her fathers soldiers and co-workers. She found friendship and solace in the robots she built.

    Staci faces Sacrilege.

The son of Steven's good friend Benjamin Bates Sr., Benny was Staci's only childhood friend. Orphaned in his preteens, Steven took him in and provided for him as a father would. Benny would come to fall in love with Staci, but she was much too oblivious to take note of his subtle hints. It wasn't until her eighteenth birthday that she began to allow herself to think of Benjamin as a prospect. Enlisted in the military, he was eager to follow in Steven's footsteps. Unfortunately, during his first tour of duty, he was badly mangled in an explosion. Filled with guilt and unwilling to let go of the young man he regarded as his son, Steven had various life saving cybernetics implanted into Benny. Robotic limbs replaced those that were blown away. Upon waking, Benjamin went into a psychotic break, believing himself to be an abomination. He swore to take revenge on Steven the only way he knew how - by going after Staci.

As far as Staci knew, Benny was killed during the skirmish. Deeply saddened, she drowned her sorrows in her work, building munitions bots Duke and Razz. It wasn't until she was established in Millennium City that Steven told her the truth about Benny, who was now going by the name Sacrilege.

Her first relationship, she met Jason Range at Club Caprice and grew to regret every moment. Abusive, rude, dishonest, and just plain unpleasant, Range would be the first in a string of unsuccessful relationships.

Daniel Tailor became a huge part of Staci's life, the two becoming inseparable shortly after they met. Despite the trauma of the psionic awakening, her love for Daniel never faltered. It wasn't until she felt that it was hopeless for the two to become a couple that she gave up on the notion. Despite not being able to be with him, she remained him love with him. When her brief marriage to Justin ended, they were engaged and made an attempt at making a life together. The relationship would end with Staci being twice abandoned, and left at the altar.

Justin Cavanaugh, a psion and former MCPD officer that remained close to his brothers in blue, would become Staci's husband within a month of meeting her. Unfortunately, he would give up the new life he began with the emerging psion, for his former life. The chance to hold his child again was a temptation he was not willing to resist. The two were eventually divorced. Rumor has it that his first wife was not accepting of his psionic abilities, causing Justin a great deal of stress and depression. No one is quite sure what became of him, but Staci assumed the worst when the link they agreed to share even after the divorce completely snapped one evening.

A former PRIMUS soldier altered during the irradiate uprising at Greenskin, James Bang met Staci by chance in Caprice. When she learned of his struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, she offered to help. She soon learned that he also was dealing with something of a split personality. Staci continues to work to unify the two. Their progress so far has enabled James to work with UNTIL and UNITY. Despite having grown fond of him, Staci's need to maintain professionalism and her adherence to a strict code of ethics prevent her from further pursing anything with James.

    Trivia

    Facts about Psyfire:

    • Staci is a devout Christian, and chose to be born again when she and Justin became engaged. Despite her love of Christ and strong convictions, she refuses to push her beliefs on others. She considers free will the greatest of God's gifts, and feels imposing her beliefs on others is an affront to this gift.
    • She was born a blond with blue eyes. Her eye and hair color changed when her psionic abilities emerged as a result of her newly realized biokinesis.
    • Staci maintains her weapons and regularly engages in firing practice. She also continues to maintain her munitions bots, Duke & Razz, and her drones, Bluejay and Sparrow.
    • Before her days as a hero, Staci chose to become a Chaplain in hopes of being able to serve with her father in the military. Although her career path took a bit of a turn, she received her certification as a Chaplain in the summer of 2010. She puts her education and her abilities to work in order to counsel people and serve as a spiritual adviser. Staci also visits the sick and injured, and officiates weddings.
Spoiler warning: Details about story arcs or other game content follow.

The following is not common knowledge.

    • Staci did receive a doctorate in psychology shortly before she became a Chaplain. She prefers to operate as a spiritual adviser because she feels that not even the law can touch what is between a person, their God, and their spiritual adviser.
    • From about the time of her psionic awakening until she left D.I.V.I.N.E. Staci struggled with alcohol dependency. She drank heavily to dull and cope with her telepathic abilities.
    • Staci removed the implant that generated her artificial abilities - speed, agility, regenerative properties - and had it destroyed, despite it technically being military property.
