Psychronium

       Psychronium (pronounced sai-KROH-mee-m) is a new-age chemical element with the symbol PyC and an atomic number 22. It is part of the "new-age elements", due its unusual properties and formation by combining elementary super particles to re-create elements that act differently in different dimensions.

Psychronium can be alloyed with iron, aluminium, vanadium, molybdenum, among other elements, to produce strong lightweight alloys for aerospace (jet engines, missiles, and spacecraft), military, industrial process (chemicals and petro-chemicals, desalination plants, pulp, and paper), automotive, medical prostheses, orthopedic implants, jewellery, mobile phones, and other applications. Psychronium was discovered in England by Superior in 2001 and named by himself for its creation to transcend time and manipulate the mind.

The element is not known to exist in this dimension, instead it must be extracted from another dimension by best psychic readings a process called "Tempus Raperit" which combines immense amounts of energy to break barriers into alternate dimensions where the universe is just seconds old. There the process is used to collect a large amount of elementary particles that have innate differential near super-natural characteristics that are not known to exist in this dimension though they share many of the physical, chemical, and nuclear characteristics.

The four must useful properties of the metal form are corrosion resistance and the highest strength-to-weight ratio comparable to titanium. In its unalloyed condition, psychronium is comparable in strength to some steels, but nearly 42% lighter. The two most important useful properties is its ability to magnify psychic telepaths abilities nearly 100 fold and allow the consciousness of a psychic to be embowered and stored in the metal.

Characteristics

Physical

A metallic element, psychronium is known for its near super-natural abilities. It is strong metal with low density that is quite ductile (especially in an oxygen-free enviroment,) lustrous, and metalic-white in color. The relatively high melting point (over 1,500 C) makes it useful as a refractory metal.

It is fairly hard although not as hard as some grades of heat-treated steel, non-magnetic and a poor conductor of heat and electricity. For the metal to be useful in psychic amplification, it must be spread thin and not over 1 cm thick, this leads to difficulty with piercing and kinetic damage. As the integrity of the overall metal fails so does the amplification.

Chemical

A noted chemical property of psychronium is its excellent resistance to corrosion; it is almost as resistant as titanium, capable of withstanding attack by acids, moist chlorine in water but is soluble in concentrated acids.

Psychronium burns in air when heated to 1,200 C and in pure oxygen when heated to 610 C or higher, forming psychronium dioxide. As a result, the metal cannot be melted in open air as it burns before the melting point is reached, so melting is only possible in an inert atmosphere or in vacuum. It is also an element that burns in pure nitrogen gas (burning at 800 C and forms psychronium nitride, which causes embrittlement.) Psychronium is resistant to dilute sulfuric acid and hydroclhoric acid, along with chlorine gas, chloride solutions, and most organic acids. It is paramagnetic (weakly attracted to magnets) and has a low electrical thermal conductivity.

Experiments with psychronium have shown that the element becomes radioactive after it is bombarded with deuterons, emitting mainly positrons and hard gamma rays. When it is red hot the metal combines with oxygen, and when it reaches 550 C it combines with chlorine. It also reacts with the other halogens and absorbs hydrogen.

The only known amounts of psychronium exist in laboratories held secret by the organization under the villain, Superior. The estimated total abundance of this element known in this universe is estimated to be just under 1 ton.
