ORIGINAL MIDNIGHT MAGE
The first Ben Coen's costume.
The original Midnight Mage was Benjamin Coen from this Earth. Born January 31 1989 in London, he grew up to be an average Working Class Londoner, with no particular or noteworthy events in his life. He was a dull and average man, often fantasising about becoming one of the great superheroes he always saw on the news. Some parts of London certainly could have used an extra hero or two. His factory job earned him just enough to rent out a small flat, and he carried out his dull existence till the age of 22. At that point, on a very fateful day, everything changed. He was on his way to visit his best pal, Ryan Stewart. Ryan was a very secretive individual, and often kept to himself. Despite this, he had formed a tight bond with Ben. Ryan had been unheard of for weeks now, which was unusual even for him. Open reaching his flat, Ben found the door open, and Ryan's bloody corpse on the living room floor. A police investigation turned up nothing, there was no sign of a robbery, and no-one with a motif or lack of alibi that could have committed the crime. Weeks later, Ben received a letter through the post, from Ryan. It had been sent prior to his death. It contained only a few words, Latin. It looked like some sort of incantation. Ben broke into the flat, and it had been emptied. He didn't know what he could possibly find in there that the police had missed. Then, he retrieved the letter from his pocket and spoke the words. A magic symbol appeared on the wall, revealing a secret compartment full of wondrous things. First and foremost were notes to Ben, explaining Ryan's role as a powerful mage. He had lead a very secret life in the mystical community, and was onto a plot of evil Haitian Voodoo priests to resurrect the terrible Voodoo King, a mystical maniac who once almost ravaged the world as we know it. Ryan explained in the notes that he was fearful of the Voodoo people tracking him here and taking care of him. He explained that Ben must take his research and items to certain peoples, so they may carry on the fight. Instead, Ben kept it himself. The other items included various magical tomes, scriptures, books and other readings for mastery of arcane sorcery, a mystical costume made of nigh-impenetrable demon hide, and a magical cloak of shadows. Ben took months of his time to teach himself the art of arcane magic. After he felt confident in his abilities, he set out as a London based superhero. Donning the colourful demonhide and cloak as a costume, he fashioned a simple mask and began cleaning up his neighbourhood. Using mystic portals, he could travel anywhere in the world in an instant. He performed feats in many places, including the fabled Millennium City. Despite this, he never achieved much fame. Eventually, he took it upon himself to take down the Voodoo Priests in Haiti and stop the Voodoo King from rising again. In that final, great and terrible battle, he sacrificed his life to seal the Voodoo King in the netherrealms forever. The remaining priests burned the area to the ground, leaving no evidence as to what happened. No-one was aware Midnight Mage had perished in that battle.
NEW MIDNIGHT MAGE
The current Midnight Mage is Benjamin Coen from an alternate Earth. He lead a rather different life to the one this Earth knew. There was no Ryan Stewart to be his friend and introduction into the viscous word of magic. Instead, he had his father. His father was one of the greatest masters of arcane sorcery that ever had lived. He raised Ben into the world of magic, teaching his son all the tricks of the trade, hoping he would become a great hero like him. By the age of 22, he was proficient in the arcane magics and impressively so. His father was very proud of his son. It was his father in this world who was killed by the Voodoo Priests of Haiti, but in this world Ben was well prepared and took them down without a hitch, before they ever begun the ritual to bring back the Voodoo King. Unfortunately, a darker threat loomed on the horizon that no-one in the magical world could ever prepare for. As is known, our Earth exists in a sea of various other Earths and realms and planes. There are in fact, eleven basic dimensions all around us, as according to the string theory. The 11th dimension is the space in which all the worlds float. It is nowhere, yet everywhere all the time. Is is closer to us than the clothes on our very bodies. Who knows what manner of creatures could exist out there? Well, some do. One such being has taken the name Cerberus. He is possibly the first being ever to exist in the whole Omniverse. And he is pure evil, the root of all badness and corruption. He wants nothing more than to kill all of creation, and go back to the dark void of non-space that was there before. In this Ben's universe, he gave immense power to his corrupted servant, known only as Judas. Judas helped seal the fate of Ben's universe, and it was annihilated. He couldn't have possibly known where Cerberus would strike next, so he used a great deal of power to throw himself into the first Earth he could. That just happened to be the Earth we know and love, with it's Midnight Mage perished. He learned of his counterparts disappearance, and consulting the oracles learned of his death. This was a perfect opportunity to carry on as the Midnight Mage and operate unsuspected. When the time comes, he must unite this worlds heroes against Cerberus and his forces and end his blight upon the Omniverse. The world of course, barely aware of one Midnight Mage, was certainly unaware that there were two. All anyone ever noticed was a costume change. And no-one ever knew what had happened to poor Benjamin Coen, missing and presumed dead.
Powers
As masters of arcane magic, both Midnight Mages can cast spells and perform rituals to various effects. Including levitation, summoning various circles of powers, creatures and energies, binding/holding spells, spells that cause damage to opponents, healing, protection of ones self, and portals to travel anywhere in the world at a moments notice. Both Midnight Mages operate out of a secret lair atop the Big Ben clock tower, hidden from others by magical seals.
Enemies
While he is waiting for the inevitable coming of Cerberus, Midnight Mage has attained another dangerous and unrelenting foe. The Draco Knight. His true name lost in time, he was a sorcerer in the middle ages. One night, he performed a dark ritual and drank the blood of 13 dragons, attaining power far beyond most mortals. These include: super strength, nigh-invulnerability, high resistance to magic, immortality, pyrokinesis and flight. He has lived so long that he has been a villain, become bored and reformed, then become bored again and gone inactive. Recently, he has surfaced as a villain again, this time more ruthless and maniacal than ever before. Rumor has it he is looking for a way to die, and wants to take out as many people as possible with him. Here's hoping Midnight Mage can stop him.
