Backstory
The Beginning
Born into a modern family household in Sweden, Nyra Dovell came into the world just minutes after her twin sister, Abeline Dovell, who was otherwise known as Abby. Both Nyra and her sister were born schizophrenic, which was notably rare, as schizophrenia typically did not develop until an individual was near twenty years of age. The paranoid schizophrenia was a struggle to deal with, consistently drawing lines for the girls between their vast imagination and reality. Thankfully, because the schizophrenia was able to be diagnosed at an early age, Nyra and Abby received treatment and were taught essential skills to take care of themselves in order to function within a social environment. Although they were a year later than their average age group, the girls attended the local school's dagis (Kindergarden) during the fall of 2001. The girls handled themselves well in school, but always came home later to play in an unseen world which they seemed to share.
Nyra and Abeline's elder brother, Leonardo Dovell, or Leo, was about twelve at the time that the girls were in the second grade of primary school. His family was quite frankly shocked when he began to show superhuman telekinetic and telepathic abilities, and initially assumed that he, too, had some sort of mental retardation. Over the next few years, Nyra and Abby also began to develop strange abilities. Their parents had been used to them discussing their hallucinations as "imaginary friends," but the more the girls spoke about their friends and the adventures they would go on, the more that things did not seem quite right with the twins. From time to time, family and friends would begin to feel that there was another presence in the house with them, or hear sudden sounds, but were never able to find the source. Leonardo assumed on his own that the girls' hallucinations were becoming psychic manifestations and took them as they were far more than their own parents, peers, guidance counselors, teachers, or family friends. Nyra's parents wanted to hide away the secrets of the inhuman abilities which their children had come to develop. Desperate to keep a clean slate, they increased the dosages on Nyra's and Abeline's medication under the guidance of their family doctor.
Abeline adapted well to the new dosages and began to drift out of the world she and Nyra had created. Nyra, however, did not take the new dosages well. The paranoid schizophrenia and psionic abilities held very tight ties, and if the schizophrenia's symptoms were nullified, then the very illness itself seemed to fight back, and used the psychic abilities to try and find a way to escape the cell which the medication had placed it within. Nyra complained about migraines and was sympathetic in explaining the struggle which her "friends" went through. However, because this side effect came on so quickly, there was no time to back Nyra's dosage up to something more sustainable.
OniNesia's Homicide
Rather rapidly, the perceived hallucinations as seen by outside forces began to worsen within a short amount of time. Their very house was deemed to be haunted, and strange figures began appearing out of the corner of their eyes. A supposed "dog" which Nyra had "brought home from school one day" became a key figure, and overnight he formed into a psionic manifestation for all to see. He existed in the home for exactly twenty-four hours until Nyra took the last dosage which would seal her's and Abby's future for the worst.
It was after midnight of the same day in which OniNesia had manifested. Nyra woke to the sound of her sister's own screams and found that Oni was attacking her sister's manifestations in their bedroom. Oni consumed Abeline's manifestations, and powerless, Nyra was subjected to witness unspeakable horrors done to her sister. Sometime during the night, Leo managed to get in through the window when all others found the door would not budge no matter what force was applied to it. Leo took Nyra up into his arms and fled the scene, permanently, with Oni on his heels. Eventually, once Nyra had recovered enough from her trauma, she turned her powers on herself and attacked her very mind to erase the memory of Abeline's existence and what had occurred that night. This in turn caused Nyra's psionic manifestations to also forget. This caused Nyra to lose touch with reality and fall into a state of insanity. Leo had no choice but to take his sister overseas into America and seek the help of a mental institution.
