Lysander Crowe is a heavily augmented human being, kept alive by the same suit of armour used to protect him and - in his time - to fly dropships. He is a stoic and quiet individual, tempered by a short life of selflessness and often recklessness. He may be worthy of the praise of a common superhero, but he gladly accepts that his deeds are not known - or have even come to pass - in this time, preferring that praise to go to better men and woman than himself.

History

Childhood

Lysander Crowe was born in 2017 in Orlando, Florida to mother Francesca Clarke and father Jeremiah Crowe. He was one of a pair of twins, the other being his sister, Elisia. Both children grew up in the city of their birth and went through education together. The family was a close one, and a busy one, with both Francesca and Jeremiah at work, Francesca as a teacher and Jeremiah at the Orlando International Airfield as a mechanic. Lysander's father's enthusiasm for aircraft rubbed off on him and he developed a fascination with aircraft from the young age of five.

School Grade Blues

At school, Lysander quickly grew tired of his classes and fell into a cycle of misconduct, often failing to complete both homework and classwork and generally just fooling around instead of focusing on his work. Elisia, however, knuckled down with her classes and excelled, starting a chain of successes that would carry on throughout her whole life.

While Elisia shone through her exams and achieved grades above and beyond what she expected, Lysander's accurately reflected his attitude to schoolwork; in 2034 Lysander left school with a plethora of D's and low C's and very little hope for the future. Lysander spent another two years trying to raise his grades, succeeding in 2036 with a number of high C's and B's under his belt, he finally felt he was ready to live his childhood dream.

Applying to United States Air Force

After visiting the Military Entrance Processing Station in Jacksonville, Lysander was sent on his way to Lackland Air Force Base, Texas to begin his training at the start of 2037. While at Lackland, Lysander became fond of using his surname, believing it to be better fitting for a member of the USAF than Lysander. During his training, Crowe was educated on the use and care of the M16A2 rifle, squad mechanics and teamwork, and the use and care of the Integrated Pilot-To-Aircraft Suit, or IPTAS. By the end of his training, Crowe found himself as a new man, and as a pilot.

Dropships and Masonry

After training, Crowe was sent to a new military base near Millennium City, Michigan, where the USAF was requested to maintain a constant presence in an effort to counter non-super terrorism. Crowe was to be the among a handful of the first pilots to fly the Vertex Dropship, a quad-rotor aircraft designed to ferry troops in and out of combat zones, as well as providing fire support. During the extra training the pilots received in the use of the Vertexes, Crowe met his soon-to-be lifelong friend, Alec Mason. The two quickly got along, creating a relationship based on respect and trust to stand the test of time.

Iron Crowe

Present Day: Crowe often spends time visiting the site where he would later become known as Iron Crowe.

During a counter-terroism op along the outskirts of Millennium City's Westside late in the year 2037, Mason's Vertex took a hit from an RPG to the left side, disabling both front and rear rotors. Despite losing partial control of the craft, Mason still managed an emergency landing on a nearby rooftop, only to be surrounded by terrorist forces from the group known as 'Aurora'.

Ignoring orders to return to the Air Force Base, Crowe remained behind and defended the downed Vertex with his own dropship, saving the lives of Mason and eight out of his eighteen passengers. Crowe's Vertex sustained little damage due to his evasive flying and the quick reactions of his gunman, Peter Calahan. The most serious damage sustained to Crowe's Vertex was a minigun barrel rotating at such a constant rate that the heat caused the barrel to weld itself to the mount, jamming the left minigun.

Crowe's heroic and skillful act further cemented the bond between him and Mason, as well as forging a strong relation with his gunman, Peter, whom he used to struggle to cope with. USAF officially refused to acknowledge his actions due to insubordination, providing no comments on what the press called a "heroic save". However, within the Force, Crowe and his Vertex were given the moniker "Iron Crowe".

Stars Attacks!

Midway through the year 2039, a major conflict erupted in Southern Europe between the human race (and assorted allies) and an unidentified alien race. The Millennium City Vertexes were loaded onto carriers and ferried across the water to an air base outside of Nice, France. During the invasion, Crowe served by flying troops of all nationalities to and from the mountain battlefield and providing fire support when needed. Near the turning point of the battle, Iron Crowe provided suppressive fire to allow a strike team to retreat after having placed demo charges. Nine out of eleven of the team survived the encounter, further solidifying Crowe's reputation as a pilot.

Crash and Burn

2041 was not a good year for Crowe. In January a jammed minigun on his Vertex led to a backfire, which ignited the ammo supply for the left side of his dropship. The resulting explosion sent the Vertex lurching to the ground, killing all passengers with the exception of Crowe and one other squad member. Gunner Peter Calahan didn't survive the crash and Crowe himself was grievously injured, his lower body having been crushed in the mess of twisted metal that used to be the cockpit. The lone survivor, a member of UNTIL held his ground against oncoming Aurora forces long enough for Alec Mason to arrive with an evac, just as Crowe lost consciousness.

Crowe had been blasted free from the wreckage by Mason's personal missile module and taken back with the other survivor. For the next three years Crowe remained both unconscious and legless, his entire lower body from the waist down had been surgically removed to prevent further infections and chemical burns from his severely damaged IPTAS. Project 'Steel Crowe' was about to commence, a two year programme to implant Crowe into a heavily modified IPTAS capable of keeping him alive and able to fuction.

Awakening

In early 2044 Project 'Steel Crowe' was complete after six months of delays. Crowe was awakened on 9 July 2044 at 3:54PM. This was the last time he was ever recorded a camera through CCTV at the Millennium City Air Force Base. He coped extremely well with his new body, especially considering that his legs were now totally replaced by robotic counterparts. After very few hiccups with getting the suit adjusted to his brain's electric signals, Crowe described himself as "lucky to be alive" and "extremely grateful for a second chance". With the successful conclusion of Steel Crowe, Crowe's family was finally informed of his fate.

Crowe was reportedly cleared for dropship operation three months after the final procedures had been completed.

Out of Time

Another invasion of Earth occurred in the year 2046 by a single being, a gargantuan entity with the power over time itself. This entity was dubbed 'Temporus' by humankind and immediately declared a threat after being observed to be destroying orbiting satellites by distorting time around them and causing them to be exposed to the effects of thousands of years of use, instantly rusting and decaying them.

Temporus made landfall on planet Earth in Eastern Asia near Wuhan, China, and began applying the same use of temporal distortion on human settlements in the area. Once again, the Millennium City Vertexes were shipped across to an aircraft carrier based just off the east coast of Japan.

During the ensuing repel operation Temporus displayed the ability to pull multiple copies of himself from what was orignally believed to be the past and future. Post-invasion investigation later revealed that these copies were actually pulled from seperate dimensions, as well as times. Each time one of the dozen Temporus seemed gravely wounded, they would phase back into their own existance and be replaced by another, and each version of Temporus usually possessed similar abilities to the original, however some varied drastically nearer the end of the invasion.

Mason's Vertex was severely damaged by a pocket of warped time. He tried and failed to make an emergency landing, but luckily managed to eject himself and his passengers before his dropship exploded in a field.

Crowe later stated that he and time-travel had a "bit of a disagreement" when explaining his origins.

Temporal Martyrdom

During a final assault on Temporus in Örebro, Sweden, each of his copies were forced to phase back, leaving only the original. Crowe's Vertex was torn from the sky by a pocket of distorted time, but he was able to make an emergency landing on a mountain side, using his missile module and jet boots he was able to distract Temporus long enough for his passengers to make it to cover. Rather than kill Crowe by aging him, Temporus felt that his act of defiance deserved a slower death. Instead of simply flash-aging Crowe on the spot, Temporus sent him back in time to the present day, under the impression that Crowe would be killed by the travel.

Although battered by the time-travel, Crowe's modified IPTAS was able to protect him from any serious harm and he was just rendered unconscious. He awoke in the same spot he had been sent back from, albeit thirty-four years in the past.

Today

When Crowe awoke, he assumed that he had been knocked out during the battle, and that he was still in his own time. The lack of wreckage or battle-damage to the terrain around him made him wonder how long he had been out. It was not until he was unable to contact any of the USAF until he genuinely began to feel uneasy. Using his jet boots, Crowe managed to fly his way over the Pacific to the USA, where he made his way to Millennium City by a mix of both land and air transportation, to conserve jet fuel.

On his way, Crowe became more and more suspicious of where and when he was, however he kept his suspicions at bay until reaching the site-to-be of the Millenium City Air Force Base. Crowe spent a small amount of time wandering around the empty field, trying to rationalise, or at least accept what had happened.

Later he headed into the city in order to locate the PRIMUS base and to register himself as a superhero.

Occupation

Crowe now works for UNTIL as a 'solution' to threats that are above the capabilities of the MCPD, and below what they consider to be problems to be handled by superheroes. Crowe is often used to clear out gangs from their hideouts and strongholds singlehandedly, or to provide accurate reconnaissance from a safe distance. He is also on call for the Champions Response and Protect unit.

Equipment

Being from a different time, Crowe finds many pieces of equipment used by others to be strange or at the very least old-fashioned. As such he tends to only use what he has been sent back with.

Present Day: Personal Missiles make short work of targets in vehicles, armoured or not.

IPTAS

Crowe's heavily modified Integrated Pilot-To-Aircraft Suit, or IPTAS. In his own time, this suit would have allowed Crowe to pilot most aircraft effortlessly by connecting to the pilot seat directly via a selection of sockets and ports in the back of the suit. Once in the vehicle, the suit would display a fully customisable HUD on the inside of the visor, and the ship would also project a variety of holo-displays visible only to the pilot. This allowed for more responsive flight, and also improved the pilots reactions over flying stick.

As Crowe's IPTAS is also designed to provide life support, it also takes the role of Crowe's failed heart, pumping his blood around his body. However, due to the mechanical nature of the pumps, the blood cells become damaged over time and eventually the blood will have to be replaced as it is no longer fit for purpose. Crowe's blood needs to be changed roughly once a year.

Kevlar/Questionite Shock Plates

As Crowe's IPTAS was being custom-made to fit him, it was decided that they might as well fit it with more than the standard kevlar. Questionite plates were installed under the layers used to protect his torso, while the usual kevlar was left to protect his non-vitals, such as his legs, which are completely robotic. The plates can stop most small arms fire from a minimum distance of twenty metres, and larger calibres from a minimum distance of roughly fifty metres.

Present Day: Kenetic Forcefields provide an additional layer of protection against firearms and energy projection.

Customisable HUD

A standard feature for all IPTAS, the suits feature an in-helmet HUD that can be fully customised through a set of voice commands and motions. The HUD can display a range of information, including:

• Air toxicity and general content
• Vital signs
• Thermal imaging
• Communications channels*
• Missile module ammo count
• Jet boot fuel
• Overall suit power level

* Under ideal circumstances, each IPTAS would be connected to the same channel, allowing pilots to monitor each other and remain in contact. However, in the present, it has proved impossible for Crowe to configure his HUD to work with any communications channel, even though his suit can still send and receive transmissions.

Kenetic Forcefields

Another standard feature for all IPTAS. Each suit is equipped with a low-power forcefield as a second layer of protection. In order to avoid issues while the pilots are airborne, the forcefields are only active while the IPTAS are unplugged from a cockpit. The location of the forcefield batteries vary in different versions of the IPTAS, but the battery compartment for Crowe's forcefield is located on the left side of the suit's back.

The Kenetic Forcefields only actively protect against fast-moving projectiles, so a pilot can still still down in a chair without pushing it away, provided that he doesn't try some kind of elaborate dive-sitting.

Personal Missile Module

Yet another standard feature for all IPTAS users. The personal missile module is a wrist-mounted launcher minature missile launcher. In Crowe's own time, there would be a selection of different missile types available, ranging from shaped-charge warheads to EMP-style missiles. However, due to current constraints with technology only shaped-charge missiles are available. These missiles have very little "splash" potential, but are ideal for taking out lone targets, both armoured and non-armoured.

Each module is able to contain a payload sufficient enough to fire fourty full salvoes thanks to the minature size of the ammunition. This equates to about one-hundred and twenty missiles.
