Current Activities

Currently Fletching is very much involved in helping the MCPD deal with the gang problem in Westside. She is seen quite often hunting down the more aggressive gang members and handing them over to the MCDP. Even though progress is slow, she is making a name for herself around Westside and farther, with many of the gangs being careful to scan the rooftops for a flash of green and gold. She is also doing her part to help drive off the invasion of Dr. Destroyer.

History

Jennifer was born without any sort of super powers, in fact she was fairly average growing up, showing no special abilities and was never doused in any sort of chemical. The only and only thing she had that separated her from others is the ability to visualize distances, trajectories, angles and speed in a way that most people can’t this gave her the ability to aim with uncanny accuracy. During high school she was invited to try out for some of the sporting teams, and found that things like pitching, and archery came very easy to her, she also had a natural affinity for acrobatics and gymnastics.

After high school she was given an archery scholarship and quite easily dominated the college level events, at age 20, having graduated early, she went pro and spent a year winning tournament after tournament. Her scores were so high in fact that PRIMUS was asked to investigate the matter and see if she wasn’t actually a superhuman using her powers in competition. According to the tests she was borderline superhuman, and therefor wasn’t cheating. However she still decided to drop out of the competitive circuit. Unsure what to do with her life after that, she moved to Millennium City, thinking a fresh start in a new city would help her find a new purpose. Up to that point competitive archery was her life, and although she had enough money to live comfortably for some time, she needed something else to do.

After moving to Millennium City, she invested her winnings and opened up a sporting goods store in the downtown area, specializing in archery equipment, she named the store ‘’Quivers’’ which actually brings in more than a few people expecting a different type of establishment, despite the archery equipment displayed in the window. Jennifer has actually managed to make a few sales from these mistakes, maybe because the person is embraced to admit why they were really there and maybe because they want to impress the beautiful store owner who offers lesions on archery…

How it started

One night on her way home from the store, she happened upon a woman and her daughter being attacked by the New Purple Gang. Even though she had never really done anything like it before, she knew she couldn’t simply walk by, this was her home and someone had to stand up to these thugs. She happened to be taking home a new bow she was sent, it was a new design and she wanted to check it out before she offered it up for sale. Quickly stringing the bow she gave the thugs fair warning, and then unleashed a storm of arrows on them, driving them away but not seriously harming a single person. The mother thanked offered to reward Jennifer for her help, but seeing the two of them safe was all the reward that she really needed. That night she considered what had happened carefully and decided that even though she might not be anything special like Ironclad, Defender or Witchcraft, she might still be able to make a difference.

Over the next few weeks she came up with a name and a look, and took to the streets. At first she used a standard bow and arrow, but over time has tweaked and changed the bow into something more suited for her needs. She has also designed a number of trick arrows that aid her in defending her home.


Skills and Abilities

Fletching has few and depending on how you grade them no super powers. She has an uncanny sense of perception, and this allows her to gauge distance, velocity, angles, trajectories, and so on with what seems to be borderline superhuman ability. She was tested by DOSPA, and it was determined that her sense of physical perception could perhaps be considered superhuman, but if so only just barely so.

Because of this she is considered to be a normal human, even though she is registered with DOSPA. Her sense of perception gives her unerring aim, and she will seldom miss a target, even one dodging at great speed. It also allows her a level of grace and balance well beyond average; this aided her greatly in things like gymnastics and acrobatics, as she was able to better judge her position relative to an object or the ground than most. This and her athletic training allow her to run faster, jump higher and farther, and react faster than most people, skills she finds quite useful in her chosen roll of protector of those who need protection.

Gadgets

Fletching makes use of various trick arrows, and a special bow she has designed. She uses few other gadgets when fighting crime.

Mk 8 Recurve Bow

The Mk 8 Recurve Bow is the 8th design in bows that Fletching has created. What would be considered the Mk1 was the bow she used in competition. It was nothing like her current one, as it was set up for use in competition, as such accuracy was much more important than durability. Mk2-7 each saw a major upgrade in the durability of the bows, including adding an energy sheaved string, which provides maximum durability for the string. Nothing will quite ruin an archer’s day then having a string break, and given the conditions which Fletching works under a normal string simply won’t do. The Mk8 is ideally balanced for her with 65lbs of draw; the limbs are reinforced with Kevlar and Questionite, making the bow nearly indestructible. Although she tries to avoid most blows Fletching can and will block swords, or other attacks with her bow when needed.

Trick Arrows and other ammo

Fletching has access to some trick arrows, including ones with sonic generators, gas dispensers, and even explosive charges. But she seldom uses these, instead prefers to stick to her semi-sharp “rubber arrows”. The various trick arrows are a bit too unreliable for Fletching’s taste, and as such she avoids them. She worries that innocent bystanders might be caught in the blast or hit with the sonic wave.

Rubber Arrows

Based in concept on rubber bullets, Fletching has developed a “rubber” arrow tip. They aren’t truly made of rubber but rather a high strength polymer that will hold a bit of an edge but isn’t really sharp. As such they will penetrate soft targets such as wood, or sheetrock, but will not penetrate far into flesh.

These tips give the arrows Fletching uses all the same flight characteristics of a normal steel tipped broadhead arrow, but are effectively non-lethal.

Broadhead Interceptor

The Broadhead Interceptor is the one and only splurge Fletching has ever bought. It took a large chunk of her winnings to pay for, but it has paid for itself many times over already. Based loosely on the interceptor used by Nightwing, Fletching seldom engages her pray in it. The rockets and mini-gun being far too lethal and un-selective to be used in Millennium City, but she will use it as a means to get from one area to another quickly.
