Fire Ant
This character article is a stub -- a small, but growing, work in progress. If you're the creator of this character, why not consider expanding it?

The creature known as "Fire Ant" is in fact an aggregate life form, consisting of several thousand small, insectile creatures existing in a telepathic gestalt. Due to the alien nature of its hive mind, Fire Ant is unable to use its telepathic abilities on others, nor can any Terran telepaths read its mind. In the aggregate, Fire Ant is sapient, and intelligent - probably on a par with an above-average human, although this is difficult to determine. Its individual members, however, are pre-sapient as individuals. In interviews, Fire Ant has been forthcoming about its past; there have been some misunderstandings, but these are due to translation difficulties, rather than any lack of cooperation on the subject's part.
Known History
The world that spawned Fire Ant's civilization is a roughly Earthlike planet, orbiting a K-type orange dwarf star some sixty degrees spinward of Sol and 25,000 lightyears out from the galactic core (thus placing it on the order of 25,000 lightyears from Earth as well). Some time ago (Fire Ant still has difficulties with Terran units of time), this world came under attack from the Qularr. Over ninety percent of its surface was devastated in the ensuing combat; Fire Ant represents the majority of the planet's survivors. They did manage to drive the Qularr away eventually. The group now known as Fire Ant gave chase in their lone surviving starship.
Eventually, it tracked the Qularr mothership to Earth, arriving shortly after the Champions, with the assistance of a small group of apprentice heroes, managed to shoot the mothership down, bringing it to its current resting place in the Detroit River. Knowing that its enemies were probably still somewhere on Earth, albeit now scattered, Fire Ant offered its services to protect the human race, which it has come to admire.
Known Powers
Fire Ant has demonstrated the ability to generate fire, through chemical reactions among its members, and to manipulate that flame in a number of ways, through means not yet fully understood. It can also dissociate into its individual members, while maintaining its group identity; in this form, it is often unnoticed by humans, who dismiss it as "just bugs", and is capable of burrowing below the surface of the ground at high speed. It can walk in its aggregate form; however, as it is not well-adapted to this form of locomotion, its moves are slower and less graceful than one might expect.
Known Devices
In order to facilitate its rapid response to distant emergencies, UNTIL has issued Fire Ant a Harmon Industries grav bike. Apparently, someone at UNTIL has a dry sense of humor, as the particular grav bike issued is of that model known as a "Fire Ant".
