Enigma is an artifically created human, engineered without the use of cloning technology. She is a telekinetic hero in the employ of the U.S. government, most notably a member of The Statesmen.

Appearance
Enigma is fairly tall with a slim, muscled build. Long black hair flows freely over her shoulders, though it never seems to get in her way; it is assumed she keeps it under control telekinetically. Her expression is usually impassive, though she does show hints of puzzlement now and then. Her remarkable green eyes also don't seem to blink as often as most humans. It has been said that Enigma does a good impression of a floating statue.
Personality
Enigma is best described as being socially ignorant. Living such a sheltered life amongst nothing but scientists, she possesses almost no social graces whatsoever beyond what she observed in the labs. Very stiff in demeanor, she comes across as being something akin to a human robot. She also has a tendency to interpret figures of speech literally. With well-meaning intervention from her friends, they are trying to teach her how to be more relaxed and fun.
History
Enigma’s creation dates back to the mid-1970s when brilliant geneticist Dr. Matthew Branson began to do his own research into building an artificial human without cloning. By 1977 he had secured funding from the U.S. government and a team of like-minded scientists to work alongside him. This was on the condition that the government reserved the right to confiscate any, or all, portions of the research as its own. For seven years the team labored to formulate blueprints, charting the necessary genetic coding to avoid a malformation. All seemed to be running according to plan, until one scientist’s treachery was revealed.
The U.S. government had been keeping a close eye on the research team, and after a surprise audit of their work, it was discovered that one Dr. Hugo Gregorson had been smuggling out independent copies of the research papers, blueprints, and equipment. To Dr. Branson’s further horror, it seemed that Dr. Gregorson had also been experimenting privately in an attempt to create his own artificial being ahead of the team, resulting in a number of malformed attempts that had to be euthanized.
The U.S. government stepped in and confiscated all of the stolen research materials that could be found, and Dr. Gregorson was forcibly removed from the team. He was to undergo trial for his actions, but somehow managed to escape. The rest of the team, headed by Dr. Branson, continued their work.
It was in 1985 when success was finally achieved. Dr. Branson had been adamant that they not try to actually bring their work to fruition until they had the genetic coding down just right, desperately wanting to avoid the horror of Dr. Gregorson’s failures. As such, Nicole Branson was “born”, a perfect and healthy baby girl. There were two peculiarities that were almost immediately noticeable, however. The first was that she possessed no navel. The second abnormality became evident when she opened her eyes and focused on Dr. Branson’s ID tag that was pinned to his lab coat. Without any visible effort, the tag levitated upwards as she gazed at it. Astounded by this, Dr. Branson and his team proceeded to further test her apparent telekinetic abilities; placing various small objects in front of her and watching in awe as she mentally lifted and manipulated each and every one of them.
After dutifully filling out his report to the government, however, they once again stepped in; this time with the decision to confiscate Nicole Branson herself. Given the codename Enigma, for she was indeed a strange and unexpected result, she was raised in a laboratory environment and implanted with a nano-identification technology that allowed the government to keep tabs on her at all times. Her powers grew rapidly, and she was trained diligently to handle them. To this day, her powers continue to grow and she is required to regularly return to the labs for further testing. Now, the U.S. government has assigned her to mostly deal with threats to national security. Recently there have also been rumors that Dr. Gregorson has at last surfaced somewhere in Millenium City, which Enigma has been dispatched to confirm.
Abilities
Since "birth" Enigma has possessed impressive telekinetic potential. Manifesting blades of telekinetic energy, manipulating matter with her mind, including her own body. Her powers are still under development and undergoing regular testing, but they seem to extend down to an almost molecular level.
Equipment
Enigma requires little in the way of equipment, or at least prefers not to resort to much beyond her own abilities. Her primary pieces of equipment are a lightly armored bodysuit that is designed to handle whatever damage she does not deflect herself, and a visor to likewise protect her eyes.
Connections
Enigma has had limited contact with most other heroes, given her social ignorance. Friends and colleagues include Lady Incendiary, Dusk Owl, Wyrd, Subject Seven, and Coyote.
