Synopsis
Elania Vikaernes is a former UNTIL Lieutenant, Yakuza enforcer, and is currently The head of The Hawthorn Consortium, a supernatural hunter organization. Elania began her career after running away from her foster home at the age of 15. Armed with a false ID, she joined the Norwegian military one year later under their special ops program, spending three years in the program before being wounded in the Bosnian conflict, ending her military career. After her discharge, Elania put her training to work in the world of contract collections, spending three additional years in employment of the Yakuza, and subsequently forming an organized group of contract mercenaries (VIK) upon her return to Norway in 1998, notably with the man who would become her husband, Jorgen Vikaernes. VIK was officially disbanded in 2010 after an attempt on Elania's life by her husband, with the intent of taking over and selling off the remainder of the organization's contracts. The attempt failed, but with her organization in ruin and her life in jeopardy, Elania relocated to Millennium city under employment of UNTIL to rebuild her life.
Elania has undergone various experimental procedures, due to her relatively advanced age, in an attempt to return to peak physical condition. She possesses enhanced vision, reaction speed, strength and high bone and muscle density due to optical implants and nanite therapy. She is a generally warm and welcoming individual, though can be altogether too trusting and a bit naive at times, especially in regards to the superhuman community, which is still very new to her.
Childhood and Foster Life
Elania Vikaernes was born on October 17th, 1975 in Oslo, Norway. Her name was derived from a combination of both of her birth parent's first names, the identities of which have been lost. Elania spent most of her childhood within the state run foster care system, moving from home to home until settling into the home of Karl and Ingrid Christensen at the age of 11. While the Christensen family was very accomodating and kind to Elania, the damage of years within the difficult foster system had already made it's mark on Elania's personality, and she began to cause trouble at home and in school almost immediately.
Education and social behavior
As a student, Elania excelled primarily in the sciences and mathematics, as well as showing an interest and intellectual capacity for grasping complex philosophical theories. While this pleased her instructors and her foster parents, it further served to alienate her from her peers, whom she already felt a significant detachment from due to the nature of her life thus far. Soon, fighting and school reprimands became the weekly norm with Elania's life, and her studies began to suffer greatly due to her inability to concentrate on scholarly activities. By the end of her second year of middle school, Elania had dropped to the bottom of her class, and was in danger of being held back in school.
Relationship with Karl Christensen
While Elania remained indifferent towards her foster mother, her relationship with Karl Christensen was very important during these formative years. It was Karl who took her hunting every year, and taught her proper marksmanship technique almost immediately upon her entering their household. Karl, being unable to produce legitimate offspring with Ingrid, viewed and treated Elania as a true part of his family, and heir to his personal legacy. During a hunting trip in November of 1990, Elania and Karl were tracking an elk they had spotted earlier in the day. The two became separated, and Elania soon found herself lost. Upon seeing movement in the thick vegetation up ahead, Elania set her sights on what she thought was the elk, and fired. Tragically, she had actually shot Karl Christensen, who was setting up within the tall shrubbery. While his death was ruled an accident, Elania could not bear the thought of returning home, and she left on her own directly from the hunting trip.
Norwegian Military Service (1991-94)
Little is known regarding the year between when Elania left her foster home, and joined the Norwegian military under the now known alias of Asa Blix. It has been surmised that during this time, she began to form connections that would later be the foundation of the mercenary organization known as VIK. One thing that is known however, is during this period she met a prominent Norwegian underworld figure named Rainier Krogstad, who set her up with her alias, and all documentation to support it. The nature of their past, and current relationship is one of both friendship and professional respect, recently renewed as Krogstad has come to work in Millennium City.
Special Ops and sniper training
Elania immediately took to the life offered by the Norwegian army. Being surrounded by people of a similar mindset allowed her to thrive, she excelled in all manners of warfare training and execution, but her greatest accomplishments were in the realm of sharpshooting. She was transferred to the special ops program with a focus in sniper training, and quickly reached the top of her class, attaining the rank of Fenrik (Second Lieutenant) within her first year in the Royal Army.
Service in the Bosnian conflict
Many of the statements and facts within this section are still in dispute, due to differing opinions of various governments and agencies regarding what is and what is not considered war crimes under the Geneva Conventions.
One year after entering into the Norwegian Royal Army, Asa Blix was sent to Bosnia as part of an allied NATO force to combat Serbian aggression towards Bosnia following the collapse of Yugoslavia. While primarily serving as a sniper, taking out high profile ranking officers within the Serbian military, Asa also witnessed the atrocities of the Serbian military towards the Bosnian populace under the rule of Slobodan Milosevic. It is alleged that Blix, with a small task force of Norwegian Special Ops soldiers, conducted secret missions after nightfall which resulted in the burning of three Serbian military hospitals in Bosnian territory, as a retaliation for the Bosniak genocide. The Serbian government has subsequently requested that Asa Blix be returned to Serbia to face military tribunal. As Elania Vikaernes is not publicly recognized as Asa Blix outside of UNTIL, Asa Blix was considered at large by the Serbian government until December of 2010, when Serbian government officials were provided a death certificate of Asa Blix, following the incident within the Volcanic Lair.
Discharge
Asa Blix was discharged from the Royal Army in 1993, after suffering a gunshot wound to the leg during the Bosnian conflict. It was not discovered that she had enlisted under a false identity, nor that she had any involvement in the burning of Serbian military hospitals until long after her discharge. To this day, it is the official position of the Norwegian government that Asa Blix had no involvement in the activities alleged by the Serbian government.
Japan (1994-97)
Following her discharge from the Norwegian Army, Elania, homeless and desperate for work, contacted a friend whom she met while serving in Bosnia, who set her up with employment in Tokyo with a personal security company, guarding mostly celebrities and high profile government officials. Though Elania's life had since stabilized, and her new occupation compensated her very well, she became quickly disenchanted with what she viewed as a very insignificant and uninspiring chapter in her life. While in Tokyo, she began to come into contact with several Yakuza officials through her occupation, which inevitably led to her involvement with the Inagawa-Kai Yakuza family.
Yakuza activity
Elania was recruited by the Inagawa-Kai Yakuza family in 1995, following a series of meetings with Yakuza officers during her tenure as a security specialist. It was during this first year Elania was given the name "Kita no Oni" (loosely translated as "North Devil") As an unofficial member of the Inagawa-Kai family, Kita no Oni took part in the organization of several underground gambling establishments throughout Tokyo, as well as international arms trading. However Kita no Oni's true purpose within the Yakuza was to operate as a ghost, carrying out more violent tasks (interrogation, assassination) without having a positive link back to Inagawa-Kai leadership. As such, Elania was never "officially" recognized as a Yakuza member, due to both her nationality and range of activity, though the tattoo's she earned during this time betray that fact.
Conflict with Triads and expulsion from Yakuza
Late in 1997, several conflicts erupted in the streets of tokyo between the Inagawa-Kai Yakuza and the Chinese Triads, who had begun to move into Tokyo and expand their influence several years earlier. Kita no Oni was at the forefront of these often violent conflicts between the two organizations, and at it's apex, Kita no Oni assassinated a senior Triad officer while he was spending an evening at a local massage parlor. The incident sparked a full fledged gang war between the Yakuza and Triads which left several low ranking officers dead within a matter of weeks. A cease fire was eventually called on the condition that the Triads vacate Tokyo, and that Kita no Oni, no longer able to disguise her involvement with the Yakuza, be expelled from both the Yakuza and Japan. This marked the final contract that Elania ever took on another person's life.
Return to Norway, and VIK (1998-2010)
After leaving the Yakuza, Elania, now going by her true maiden name of Elania Bjornson, returns to Norway and begins to rekindle ties to contacts she had met before and during her military service, many of whom would be the founding members of the mercenary organization which would eventually be known as VIK.
Jorgen Vikaernes
Jorgen Vikaernes Was working as a field operative for Rainier Krogstad, Elania's friend and colleague who had previously set her up with falsified documentation for admission into the military, and was helping her to form the foundations of VIK upon her return from Japan. Krogstad introduced Jorgen and Elania, and after discovering they had much in common, a relationship began soon after. Recently, Krogstad has been quoted as saying this was "the worst mistake I ever made."
Formation of and notable activities of VIK
Government contracts
Upon her exile from the Yakuza, Elania decided her days of contract assassination were over. When forming VIK, she took a new turn in her life and career, focusing more on black ops government support, funding and training of foreign militias, and independent support for domestic peacekeeping and law enforcement agencies. While VIK had other interests outside of government contracting, it was Elania's wish that VIK engaged in no overtly criminal activity. This was always a point of contention with her husband, who saw no reason to not pursue such interests.
The 17 in Lillehammer incident
On January 12th, 2001, Elania received an urgent call from the Lillehammer local police force. 17 gunmen had infiltrated an international bank, holding several very lucrative international accounts, and had taken hostages in a plan to escape with the bulk of the bank's holdings. Being a small police force not nearly as well armed as the gunmen inside, Elania was contacted to assist with the infiltration of the bank and rescue of the hostages. The vast majority of VIK's members at the time of the call were working in Israel, leaving only Elania and Rainier Krogstad to answer the call. Upon infiltrating the bank, the gunmen were no match for the two, and Elania and Rainier, in one of the most widely documented and sensationalized firefights in recent memory, killed 11 out of the 17 gunmen, leaving 6 badly wounded, three of whom would later die from their injuries. Despite their valiant efforts, three hostages were killed in the crossfire, including one child. It was later discovered that one of the hostages had been accidentally shot by Rainier, leaving him in a situation that would require the intervention of a foreign intelligence agency to get him out of. This incident left a permanent black mark, in the press, government and public's eye, on VIK's reputation as a private contracting agency. They were branded as careless vigilantes, and very quickly, the bulk of their domestic and international contracts dried up.
Decline in prosperity
From the time following the 17 in Lillehammer Incident, up to September 6th, 2010, VIK became a smaller, less influential organization, dealing mainly outside of government oversight. Elania during this time began to take on a less active role within the organization, culminating with the 2006 birth of her daughter, Elise. Being a new mother essentially forced Elania into retirement, concentrating only on administrative tasks within the organization, though she still retained absolute control over decisions made.
Jorgen's Betrayal
On September 6th, 2010, Jorgen Vikaernes attempted to take the life of his wife. His motivation was a 25 million dollar contract on her life by a competing organization, the identity of which is still unknown (though it is highly suspect that this organization was in fact, VIPER.) Jorgen was charged with killing Elania, obtaining control of the organization, and essentially selling VIK out, recommending all of VIK's remaining contracts be referred to the competing organization. On the morning of September 6th Jorgen attacked Elania while she was preparing for a meeting, inflicting stab wounds to her kidney, stomach and liver. Despite the injuries, Elania fought back, leaving both injured and incapacitated. What Jorgen was not aware of was that the meeting Elania was preparing for was with an UNTIL representative, who arrived at the Vikaernes residence in time to save Elania's life and arrest Jorgen. At this point Elania was taken to Millennium city, her child placed in protective custody pending Jorgen's prosecution.
Arrival in Millennium City (2010 - Present)
Currently Elania Vikaernes is living and working in Millennium City as a freelance contractor, specializing in information and fugitive retrieval, as well as corporate and military espionage. Very recently, she has begun to move all of her assets and contracts to the Vibora Bay area.
The Deal
Unknown to Jorgen at the time of his attempted murder of Elania, is that her meeting with the UNTIL representative was to, in fact, negotiate a plea bargain, in which she would testify against her husband, who was wanted by the international community for the arming and training of muslim jihadists in the mid 1990's, in exchange for her own freedom. UNTIL had put the pieces together, discovered both of her previously unknown aliases, and had threatened to turn her over to the Serbian government if she did not comply. Faced with no other alternative, Elania, still badly injured and clinging to life, was taken to Millennium city to recover, and begin a new life while awaiting the impending international trial of her husband.
Working for UNTIL
Now fully recovered and living under the watchful eye of UNTIL, Elania was in the unique position, after 12 years of running her own organization, of having to take orders. At first, her time spent working for UNTIL proved very difficult. Her freedom was limited, and she lived at UNTIL headquarters under strict surveilance. After a couple of months of working and proving her competence, Elania petitioned her commanding officers at UNTIL for full admission as an UNTIL Agent, starting off at the rank of First Lieutenant, and obtaining permission to secure her own private residence. As an UNTIL Agent Elania prospered, recording more high profile arrests and obtaining more critical intelligence and objectives than any Agent in such a short period of time. It was also reported that during this time, Jorgen Vikaernes was released from the Norwegian prison system citing "lack of credible evidence" to continue holding him. He immediately tracked Elania down to Millennium city, and had begun operating within the city to further his own objectives, and finish the assassination he failed at previously.
Cambridge Biotech and experimental procedures
Upon beginning her work for UNTIL as a contractor, Elania quickly found herself outmatched and overpowered by most of the criminal elements of Millennium City. At this point in her life she was older than most operatives out on the streets, and years of injury and her most recent attempt on her life left her ill prepared for her current position. In an attempt to regain some of her abilities, she enrolled in an experimental procedure conducted by Cambridge Biotech, by way of UNTIL funding.
Elania's enhancements include optical implants with a full neural based interface, giving her telescopic zoom vision, as well as a full HUD enabling her to manage enhancements, bio settings, and other body functions. Elania also plays host to a highly experimental type of nanite which self replicates through protein based nutrients. She has full control over the nanites function, allowing her great versatility with regards to their effectiveness and versatility in the field. She has also had several procedures done which increase her speed, agility and reflexes, as well as treatments which have significantly increased her bone and muscle strength and density.
Final Confrontation
On December 30th, 2010, Elania confronted her husband for the final time within the Volcanic Lair on Monster Island. Though the operation was successful, and Jorgen was apprehended and brought to custody, the battle left Elania mortally wounded. Through technology developed by UNTIL, a thorough brain mapping that had been compiled by nanites crossing the blood brain barrier, and information obtained through the ransacking of Telios' Tower, UNTIL managed a way to return Elania to life. Though it seems nothing went quite according to plan (including the death of Jorgen Vikaernes in a maximum security prison in Germany, and the theft of Elania's body, both perpetrated by VIPER) Elania, with the help of her friends, regained her life, and began working as a freelance agent, mainly in the Vibora Bay area.
A new life, and new directions
After Elania left UNTIL and began working as a private contractor, she found opportunities opening up for her again, both in economic terms and in leadership opportunities. As Elania became more heavily invested in the organizations she worked with, beginning with the Iron Sirens, it became obvious that she was destined to return to a position of leadership within an organization, thus The Hawthorn Consortium was born.

Mariah Jane - Elania's former girlfriend and field partner, Mariah had been missing since November 2010, and has recently returned to Millennium City. Aside from Elania's daughter, Mariah is the most important person in her life and is extremely protective of her. The two lived together in Millennium city, and in Vibora Bay before Elania moved out of their home. Mariah Jane has since gone missing again since May 2011. Current status is unknown.
Avery Cates - A gunner from New York, Avery can often be found with Elania both in social venues and out in the field. Recent unconfirmed rumors had linked the two in a romantic relationship at one point, current nature of their relationship is unknown. Avery is a current senior member of The Hawthorn Consortium.
Joan Haley aka Blackheart - Elania's best friend and most trusted confidant. Joan is primarily a martial artist and sorceress, and can be found both in and out of the field with Elania most of the time. Joan Haley was primarily responsible for the recovery of, and resurrection of Elania following her death in December 2010, and the theft of her body by Night Adder shortly thereafter. She currently holds a leadership position within The Hawthorn Consortium, and has recently relocated to the Vibora Bay area.
Force Girl - Force is a senior member of the Hawthorn Consortium, currently serving in the role of Contract Acquisitions Specialist. Force has been with Elania through two different organizations, and is one of her most trustworthy friends and associates.
Irandi Hann - Friend and field associate, Irandi is the bodyguard of Eric Derringer and an operative for Universal Investigations. Due to their very similar backgrounds and experiences, there is a kinship between the two of them that Elania has found to be very rare, as such, her friendship and confidence is highly valued. Theirs is a troubled relationship at times, but the two have worked hard to remain close.
Beshemoth - Close friend and leader of The Iron Sirens, Beshemoth was one of the first friends Elania found upon coming to Millennium City, and has remained one of her most valued associates. Despite her intimidating size and stature, Beshemoth has shown herself to be one the kindest and most gentle people that Elania has had the pleasure of knowing thusfar.
Kelly Johnson aka Blackbird - Former girlfriend of Elania, and friend of Joan Haley, murdered by Jorgen Vikaernes in October, 2010.
Mender Caesium - Friend and field associate, Elania was introduced to Sydney through Joan Haley, and can be found together often both socially and in work situations. Sydney is known as a "Child of Chernobyl," and is a member of The Hawthorn Consortium.
Jenna Harper Ames aka Warcat - Friend of Elania, had been missing since November 2010. Recently Jenna has returned to Millennium city, and has joined the ranks of The Hawthorn Consortium.
Rainier Krogstad - Elania's half brother. Currently residing in Millennium City, also a member of The Hawthorn Consortium.
Duratok Gorehowl - This large alien warrior began as a simple object of amusement for Elania, someone to throw snowballs at, or trick into doing ridiculous things due to his relative inexperience on earth. However since then, he has become an occasional field associate and someone whom she feels comfortable around despite his gruff demeanor and startling appearance.
Kitrana - One of Elania's newest friends, Elania feels a sort of kinship with Kit, coming from very similar professional backgrounds, as well as difficult past experiences. Kit is a member of The Hawthorn Consortium.
Personality, Demeanor and Interests
Overall, Elania is a friendly, welcoming and often flirtatious person, being very kind to her friends, and accepting of new people on face value, to the point of being a bit naive with regards to someone's true intentions. She is, however, quick to judge. If she finds personality traits or behavior in a person that she does not approve of, she will not engage that person any further. Her known biases are mainly in regards to supernatural entities. She will very rarely make any attempts to befriend vampires, the undead, demons or (to a lesser degree) werewolves, and any attempts made by such beings to speak with her will generally be met with indifference, or hostility if the issue is pressed.
Elania knows very well how to separate work from play. Her demeanor while she is on the clock is very different than it would typically be when she is out having fun, unless of course her work day was particularly rough, in which case she tends to be far less sociable. Her religious views lean towards atheism, though since coming to Millennium city, she has acknowledged the existance of gods, though she will not acknowledge the existance of a supreme creator. Elania loves anything and everything American. From the food, the music, the films, television and the general culture, it is something she is completely enraptured by. She likes classic Hollywood and western movies and prefers Jazz and Blues music above all else. She also has an incredible weakness for reality shows and video games.

Jorgen Vikaernes
(1968-2011) Jorgen Vikaernes was Elania's Ex Husband and business partner. Attempted assassination of Elania in Septemmber 2010, found responsible for the murder of Kelly Johnson in October 2010. Jorgen Vikaenes was apprehended and brought to justice in December 2010. Shortly after apprehension, the maximum security military prison where he was being held in Germany was bombed by agents of Night Adder, presumably in an attempt to prevent Jorgen Vikaernes from implicating VIPER in the deal over VIK's assets. Jorgen was killed in the bombing.
Night Adder
(????-2011) Rogue former VIPER agent, responsible for the death of Jorgen Vikaernes, with whom he fostered a deal several months earlier, arranging for the assassination of Elania Vikaernes and the transfer of VIK's assets to VIPER, also responsible for the theft of Elania's body from UNTIL headquarters during an attempted resurrection of Elania, leaving her with only partial memories for a short amount of time. Night Adder was killed in January 2011 by Elania Vikaernes and a party of associates, and the memories she had lost were retrieved.
