D-Cell Overview:

The West Side neighborhood is well known for it’s second class citizens dealing with a first class crime wave. The thing is, the people of West Side don’t see themselves as ‘second class’ and they sure as hell don’t want the troubles that seem to plague their neighborhood. The MPCD doesn’t seem to be able to do enough, and while caped heroes seem to pop up everyday; very few of them seem to hang around past the time their egos tell them they should be doing more important things than cleaning up street gangs.

That’s why for nearly a decade the citizens of West Side have found comfort knowing that The Armored Protector known as D-Cell is there to stand by their side. Largely viewed as a genuine hero, he’s never been one to seek fame or recognition for the crimes he stops. Often he’ll remain on scene only long enough to ensure that the situation is dealt with and to date, has yet to speak to anyone in the press. Not that many in the press truely care about a hero that isn’t flashy, doesn’t spout catch phrases, and doesn’t stick around to pose for photos. For every D-Cell in the city, there are ten wanna-be Champions ready to sell-out for their 15 minutes.

Like the strong foundation that West Side was built upon, D-Cell will never break and will always be ready to support the citizens that need him most.

Appearance:

While his suit does periodically change, his look has remained consistent over the years. Silver body paneling with accents of Red and Black. The weapon D-cell carries has also changed over the years. Originally it was a large hammer that evolved into a large sword.

Public Information

Technological:

There is very little that can be found about D-Cell via an Internet or Database search. There is one small article about a ‘Defender of West Side’ published in a smaller independant newspaper, but this article is nearly 5 years old. Image searches by that name typically turn up images of batteries 99% of the time but a handful of photos, both recent and old are available on the internet. The most abundant source of information is a small blog that details events and happenings in West Side. The blog’s author seems to paint D-Cell as a ‘people’s hero’ and has pretty much nothing negative to report about the armored hero.

Old School:

For anyone who channels their inner private eye and hits the streets in search of information, they’ll discover a wealth of facts about D-Cell. However, discerning what is truth and what is urban legend is rather more difficult. People spoken to all seem to recognize the name, or the description of D-Cell, but most of the stories are things that happened to ‘A guy they know’ or ‘My aunt’s best friend’, and if this guy or aunt’s friend is tracked down, it’s typical that it wasn’t really them, but still another person who told them about it. On the surface it seems like D-Cell may just be an urban legend, but it is possible to track down actual eye witnesses if you look hard enough. The MPCD also have a small file on him as well, but any information there is just written descriptions of a suit of powered armor that has been reported at the scene of a number of foiled crimes, but never sticks around to give a statement. Overall, the tone of any story is pretty uniform. He’s a good guy who looks out for the decent citizens in West Side, he doesn’t wreck the city; only the thugs.

Skills and Gadgets

Power armor:

Vibro-blade:

This large sword is actually a fairly blunt object, with the edge of the blade measuring almost 2 inches thick. Along the middle of this edge there is a thin center channel that hides a recessed vibrating blade. Against soft targets, such as a human, the blade is effectively a blunt object.. When the blade is activated, it emerges from the channel and is highly effective against hard targets. This allows D-Cell to effectively neutralize humans without killing them, but still remain effective against metal or armored targets.

Remote Drone:

Nothing too special about this. It’s a quad rotor surveillance drone that has been upgraded with thermal imaging and a communications system. D-cell will either remotely pilot the drone from his apartment, or his daughter will; in which case it serves as a second set of eyes that can watch D-cell’s back and relay information to his suit.

Robotics and Electronics:

Wade graduated from MIT with honors in the robotics and electronics field. He was highly recruited by a number of tech companies, but suddenly and strangely (to those concerned) switched his career path and enrolled with the MPCD.

Small firearms training: Part of his training as a member of the MPCD. He’s well practised with a sidearm and comfortable using a shotgun.

RP Hooks:

Low income neighborhood:

Have a low-income character living in West Side? You may know of Wade’s shop (see employment records) or his charity work around the neighborhood.

MPCD:

Have a current or Ex-MPCD officer as a character? You may know of Wade and the fact that he resigned after his wife’ death and turned power suited vigilante for a time.

Defender of West Side:

Do you have a character who mainly patrols West Side? Chances are they would recognize D-Cell, and could have even partnered with him on occasion to help keep West Side safe.

West Side High:

Wade commonly helps out around the highschool, it would probably be known that his daughter Jennifer is a Freshman in the school.

Fiction

Coming soon. Stay tuned, true believers!

Wade Bradock

Appearance

Coming soon, and he's not Brad Pitt. He's sexier!... not really.

Personality

Just notes for now....

Helping hand: Wade finds it very difficult to refuse aid to those in need. This is mainly the reason he continues to build power armor and patrol Westside. He can’t stand to see decent hard-working people being victimised by crime and drug pushers.

Nothing compares: Even almost ten years after her death, he still loves his wife. He has a number of female friends, but they’ll never be anything more than that. Every woman he meets is sized up against the memory of his wife, and none of them measure up. It’s possible that may change one day, but unlikely.

Keeps his robotics to himself: After his wife was killed by a suit he had designed, he can not trust anyone but himself with his designs. The last thing he wants is to see is any innocent harmed by something he created.

Fierce defender: Typically, Wade is mild mannered. That all changes if someone he loves is put in harms way. Nothing, even his own well being, matters more than protecting those that he cares for.

Cares about his Hood: Wade is often seen around the neighborhood helping out. Be it picking up trash in the park, helping with the community garden, offering his technical services to the local schools, delivering groceries to elderly or disabled people or any other number of good deeds. He also regularly takes broken electronics or appliances and repairs them free of cost, which he then donates to the local hospital thrift shop.

Money isn’t important: After the death of his wife, he collected a large insurance payment which he used to secure his daughter’s post secondary schooling. The sale of the family’s Downtown condo more than paid for his modest West Side appartment. While Wade and Jenny might live a modest lower-income lifestyle, they’re happy and a large part of their neighborhood community. And that, Wade would argue, is worth more than a fortune in the bank.
