Arc Tempest is the hero you call when all the other A-list heroes cancelled on you. Born to a notorious UK supervillain and gifted with her electrokinesis before she could perceive the world around her, she lived a rough and unusual life until she donned the retro-inspired cyan tights people know her by today. Despite not being a big name or a hard-hitter, she also isn't out causing the mayhem she did in her teens.
At least, so far.
Early Life:
Nayare Saville is one of the many in this world who never knew a life without powers. Born to two metahumans in London, England, her ability to lash lightning through the air was already bestowed to her by right of birth. Though her mother decided to keep her own abilities secret and her profile low, her father made a name for himself as an ambiguous savior and the head of an software company's UK branch.
As she navigated the awkwardness of school life while learning the ins and outs of electrical powers, her father propositioned her into a life of heroism--or so she thought. Now, her afterschool activities consisted of tagging along with her father on missions throughout the city.
It was during this time her teleportation abilities manifested. Nayare somehow was able to blink from place to place, and even blink items into her hand from several streets away. That was when she went from being a tag-along to a key part of her father's process.
As she entered her teenaged years, she adopted an alias and donned a suit. Over time, the jobs her father took her on became more complex and more dangerous. It was around this time she realized she was helping her father take down business rivals. His ideas were radical and revolutionary, and as the years passed, his ideas became hers as well. Ideas and an unhealthy amount of gaslighting from him.
One day, he did something unforgivable, and her faith in him was splintered beyond repair.
She had felt the law gnawing at her heels throughout her teen years thanks to her father's methods, but now they were a roaring sinkhole looking to swallow both of them up. Left at a crossroads, she picked the only option she thought might have a future associated with it: Turning him in.
Nayare was spared imprisonment only by virtue of her cooperation leading to an arrest. Even so, she was stripped of her citizenship, and estranged from her mother. For all intents and purposes, her life as she knew it was over.
Early Adulthood:
Now eighteen, and left with nowhere to go, she sold what few shares of her father's company she held and left the UK. Her next home would have to be a place where her exploits were, at best, an off-hand mention in a BBC article. As she ran down the list of candidates, the most logical and practical option seemed to be the US.
Specifically, Millennium City.
It was a long climb back up when she moved in, taking what jobs she could on both the heroic and civilian level, making pennies on both counts. She went from apartment to apartment, mostly in Westside, picking up the scraps other heroes left behind to make ends meet and make a name for herself.
Her luck changed when the Gemini Battalion found her. It was her first real group to accept her. Suddenly, she was getting jobs throughout the city and getting paid decent money for it. With the pay and the group's resources, she was able to find a more permanent residence and begin building an arsenal to assist in her future heroic endeavors.
Present Day:
By her mid-twenties, Arc Tempest wasn't exactly a household name, but the work still came in on a regular basis. Her work isn't known for being the quickest or the cleanest, or even the most consistent, but the results often speak for themselves. Hostage or rescue situations are quickly resolved through teleportation, and her electrokinesis takes care of the rest.
While in her striking, retro-flavored tights, Arc Tempest can be an imposing force--provided the person is aware of how lethal her abilities have the potential to be. She stands tall despite being only 5'9", the perception of her height altered somewhat due to her bolt-upright posture and tall boots. The suit's tailored fit betrays a woman who works actively to maintain her athletic physique, and while not a bodybuilder by any stretch, she still looks like she could defend herself in hand-to-hand combat if necessary.
Outside of the suit is a different story. Despite being from a relatively wealthy background, one would never know it by looking at the casual and aggressively regular attire she's often seen in. In street clothes, she's more convincingly 5'9", and her posture adjusts to the fact she no longer has to appear threatening to anyone. Her ivory skin and glowing azure irises tend to be among the traits noticed first when off-duty, as is the luxurious blonde hair that sweeps at her back.
Far from being the first face that comes to mind when speaking of charismatic personalities, Nayare sports a dry sense of humor and an outspoken nature that tends to get her into trouble more often than not. Never afraid to be outwardly vulgar, her list of close friends is somehow even smaller than the number of grand heroic achievements under her belt.
In spite of this, she has the potential to be loyal, both to her peers and to her friends, though her emotionally withdrawn nature would never let that fact slip out into the open. Not one to be loving or tender even at the best of times, she'd at least show up if you were on fire. Maybe even put you out.
As a result of her turbulent upbringing, she still carries with her a gray morality that battles with whether or not it wants to be heroic or villainous. For reasons known only to her, she isn't above being tempted by the right offer to carry out the wrong jobs--though this fact is deeply hidden from public viewing, particularly that of her employers. Sometimes, the right offer is simply the notion of it being fun.
WIP
- Electrokinesis: The ability to weaponize her body's naturally occurring electricity has been the biggest boon to her career on either side of the fence or the pond. Her most powerful bolts of lightning are generated from her hands, though she's also able to generate less powerful currents from elsewhere on her body, which has resulted in the infrequent electricity-charged kick.
- Teleportation: Secondary only to her electrokinesis is her ability to teleport moderate distances instantaneously, and to do so with up to one other person if the situation calls for it. She also has the ability to teleport other objects to her, provided she knows where they are first.
- The "Arc Tempest" Suit: These are the classical tights she's seen in on most occasions. With what funds she was able to scrape together upon arriving in the US, she had her original suit refitted and heavily modified in terms of aesthetics and durability. Though it does sport a level of projection against bladed weapons and indirect small caliber weapons fire, it was ultimately designed for form and comfortability first.
- Deep Sea Diving Gear: While not normally one to enter bodies of water for the sake of combat, she could potentially do so thanks to her scuba suit and oxygen tank rig. Normally stored in her home as with her other specialized gear, she has the ability to call it to her provided she isn't too far away from it. Comes equipped with a serrated knife and a supply of stim packs, as well as an armored vest to facilitate the close combat she would inevitably have to engage with in the absence of her powers.
- Atmospheric Traversal Rig: Otherwise known simply as a space suit. One of the more extravagant additions to her arsenal in the years since moving to the US thanks to a combination of personal funding and local assistance, this suit allows Arc to survive in space or space-like environments for up to an hour at a time. Sporting more armor than any other outfit or combat suit she owns, it becomes unfeasible to equip under Earth's gravity for the sake of combat due to its sheer weight and size compared to the strength required to operate it. Comes fitted with back-mounted thrusters and a small supply of fuel to facilitate quicker travel in zero gravity conditions.
- Browning Hi-Power: The only firearm Arc possesses, it serves as more of an insurance than a regular part of her field equipment. Originally presented to her as a gift, she keeps it in her home mostly for display purposes, though she has been known to take it with her on the rare occasion she suspects she might run her energy reserves dry but still require a ranged solution. She's trained in its basic usage, though she's far from being a professional marksman with it.
- Teleportation: Arc's ability to teleport automatically puts her at an advantage in any fight, allowing her to dodge oncoming projectiles and punches alike, so long as she sees either coming. Additionally, it allows her near limitless possibilities for equipment acquisition, armor/suit swapping, and other practical uses inside and out of the field.
- Near Invulnerability to Electricity-Based Attacks: Outside of a voltage that would knock out the power in a town, Arc is able to comfortably withstand most types of electricity thrown at her, be they projectile-based or contact-based.
- Wide Application of Electrical Powers: Being electricity, her attacks are able to be manipulated in all manner of ways, such as chain lightning, ball lightning, concentrated arcs intended for single targets, and even summoning small storms overhead under certain conditions, though the latter is an extraordinarily rare occurrence. Targets doused in water become more susceptible to her attacks, and her electricity has been known to travel across water surfaces to reach targets.
- Water: While not inherently harmful to her on its own, attempting to use her powers underwater poses a life-threatening situation for both herself and those who may be submerged with her. Only those with proper insulation or electricity resistance can survive, though she herself likely wouldn't.
- Limited Energy Reserves: Despite years of practice, heavy use of her powers within a short time will eventually result in severely diminished lethality and effectiveness. Ability to incapacitate with powers becomes less likely as well. Further usage of her powers beyond this point could result in acute exhaustion or even loss of consciousness.
- Limited Options for Recharge: Although it would be a logical solution, Arc is unable to draw electricity from ambient sources to recharge herself. Once she's depleted her reserves, she needs to seek alternatives for offensive options. It's unresolved whether or not she could eventually learn this ability in time, but as it stands, once she's out, she's out.
- Arbitrary Teleportation Limitations: While she's able to teleport objects to her at will, larger objects become difficult or impossible to teleport. Weight and distance also plays a factor into the difficulty of teleportation, and she needs to know where the item is located before she can pull it to her. Teleporting other people requires a greater concentration, and she can only do this one at a time as opposed to several people at once.
- Ambiguous Morality: While she ultimately fights on the side of good and for the cause of justice, her past leaves her susceptible to temptation and manipulation. She's extremely unlikely to betray friends or peers, but it's not out of the question for her to cut corners or accept a bribe if she deemed it worthy or pertinent enough.
- Possibility of Sudden Discharge: Though rarely seen, Arc has been known to abruptly discharge electricity under certain emotional or physical stress, trauma, or other intense external stimuli that temporarily seizes control over her powers. Mind intrusions are the most likely means of this happening in the field.
- Alcoholism: Another byproduct of her troubled past is her affinity for drinking. Anything that gets her a buzz interests her, and she rarely says no when offered. What makes this a liability is the fact she draws no lines as to when and where she'll drink--even when on missions.
It's unlikely any hero, villain, or citizen of the UK, specifically of London, hasn't heard of at least one of her or her father's crimes. As the years have gone by, Arc's name has faded into obscurity along with that of her father's, but it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for someone to recognize her alias or real name, given that neither changed in the trip over to the US. Only her heavily modified suit might disguise her at first glance to anyone who might recognize her.
