Background
An aspiring software developer from an area in the north-central region of the United States, Adrian Gavi was fascinated by the tales of super heroes. Having only been a few years old and living a few states away during the events surrounding the Battle for Detroit he never fully grasped the destruction that was caused on that fateful day. This, of course, did not stop the tales of heroism on that day and after from mesmerizing his young mind and inspired him to be an honest and friendly individual.
Origin
It was a bleak spring day on the 7th of March when the everyday bustle of Adrian's home city was disrupted by one particularly irate spellcaster calling himself Ignis Rahl. Shouting claims of transgressions against him by the Trismegistus Council and vowing to torch everything in his path until he got his revenge, Ignis tore through the downtown area in a blaze of fire. As frightened citizens tried to flee and the nearest hero still a ways off, Adrian found himself in the middle of a sea of chaos.
Heedless to the dangers, Adrian began to shout directions at the fleeing populace, guiding them down side streets and through covered areas. However, it was obvious that considerable damage was being done. On his way back to look for more people, he came across a small group that had been blocked off by Ignis. As the spellcaster readied his attack, Adrian sprinted between him and the frightened people shouting:
"Enough!"
"You dare to interrupt me?" the sorcerer fumed.
"I dare! If you want to torment anyone else you'll have to go through me to do it!"
Ignis burst out in laughter before letting loose a blaze of fire. When he let up, however, a look of surprise flashed across his face before reverting to irritation, for Adrian was still standing, though staggered and charred. The spellcaster unleashed another blast of flame, but as it struck its target a distinct turquoise field began to intermingle with the flames and Adrian began to take slow steps forward.
"I. will not...not let you. Harm. Anyone else." Adrian stuttered with a decreasingly raspy voice as the energy surrounding him began to regenerate his charred form.
Taking advantage of the spellcaster's distracted attention the civilians had begun to flee, but in his rage Ignis was not going to let them get away. However, before the spell could leave his fingers, a bright flash of light collided with his chest and launched him a few feet backwards. A look of shock adorned his face as he got up to see Adrian, wreathed in a turquoise glow with hands glowing, charging at him while launching another burst of light. Their battle had begun.
Attempting to gain the advantage, Ignus took to the air in an attempt to avoid the individual attacking him with a form of energy the spellcaster was to preoccupied to recognize. However, it offered him little respite as Adrian subconsciously used the energy he was generating to lift himself into the air in pursuit. Adrian's accuracy with the bursts of light proved to be less than stellar, however, so he began to attempt more close-range attacks that kept Ignis on the defensive, though he was unable to land one on the spellcaster.
Eventually, Adrian managed to get the upper hand and struck the spellcaster with a burst of energy and driving him to the ground. As he staggered to his feet, Ignis attempted to launch a renewed barrage at Adrian. Much to his shock, however, no spell came forth. While making a few such attempts, Adrian slowly landed in front of him.
"What did you do to me?!" Ignis demanded before a strike to his face rendered him unconscious. As assorted heroes began to arrive, Adrian ducked down a path between two buildings as the realization of what had happened began to wash over him.
Aftermath
The shock of what had happened and the fear of having been seen using such power left Adrian on edge. However, his fears were eased when he began to find out that the energy field he had been generating had left a distortion in the recorded images of him, and anyone that had been in proximity to him could not recall what he looked like. Having come to terms with his new abilities and realizing he could do great acts of good for the world, Adrian set out to learn the extent of his capabilities.
It wasn't long before he realized that the energy field he generated could be shaped into different forms, though the energy itself seemed to be relatively intangible. Due to his poor performance with ranged attacks he decided that he would be much more effective with close proximity skills and began to take classes in hand to hand combat and swordsmanship. Eventually, when he felt he was ready to put his powers to use, Adrian donned a costume he had made and began to call himself Arcis (pronounced Arx) which was latin for stronghold or fortress.
Escapades
Over the next year Arcis served as a minor hero never joining in on anything of particular note, though he did encounter more foes of mystical capabilities than any other type. He even learned that his powers were based on his individual aural presence from one such individual which meant that it was his very essence that he was using to battle his foes with. During this time he also discovered that his powers also exhibited strong regenerative healing properties as well as the ability to disperse the dark magic from many of the foul artifacts he came across and was able to amass a small fortune by selling the ones that were rendered powerless as museum pieces.
One thing to note is that during this time Arcis had gained some notoriety among evildoers and super villains alike as rumors spread amongst them that the blades he wielded would render them powerless should they strike. This left him with a rather imposing reputation and lesser villains would go out of their way to avoid him if they could.
The Beacons
When the Qularr began their invasion of earth and rendered many high-profile heroes incapacitated or overwhelmed, Arcis realized that it was time for him to join the big leagues. After securing his own city from the invading insectoids he made for Millenium City where some other heroes were rallying having received word that it was the main focus of the Qularr attacks.
Joining up with numerous heroes that had gathered from around the world they managed to drive the Qularr back and destroy the beacons that had been agitating them, discovering that one of Doctor Destroyers servants was behind the invasion in the process. Having been recognized with the others for his acts of heroism, Arcis began to take a more active role in superhero affairs such as assisting in quelling the gang wars in Millenium's west side district, dispersing a powerful blizzard in the Canadian north and resolving a crisis in the southwestern desert.
Rapture
Note: This section requires a completely separate back story to be formed for another character before it can be completed.
Present Day
At present, Arcis can be seen travelling around the globe, dealing with various crisis and assisting a super group called the Silver Age Sentinels whenever the need arises.

Aural Projection
Arcis possesses the ability to channel his aural essence as a corporeal energy field. The field's strength and appearance varies based on his resolve. Most notably, the stronger the foe and the more danger they present the stronger the amplification his abilities appear to give off.
Aural Shell
Arcis' aural field not only serves as the basis for his other abilities, but also provides a powerful defensive barrier. The field inhibits kinetic energy effectively rendering all but the heaviest physical attacks relatively harmless. Both bullets and blades alike bounce off the field, tank and artillery rounds leave him staggered but otherwise unphased, and due to the nature of the aural energy it also makes him highly resilient to energy based attacks and magic as well, going so far as to absorb the residual energies.
Flash Pulse
Arcis' most basic offensive attack. Channeling his energy down his arms Arcis' releases concentrated bursts of aural energy across short distances that impact against their target with just enough force to knock them off their feet but do no serious damage.
Aural Blades
His most favored ability and the one seen channeled the most. Arcis maintains corporeal flares of aural energy which he wields as if they were a pair of blades. These blades are non-lethal and pass through their targets, draining them of energy until they are to weak to fight.
Empathic Transfer
The regenerative energies of Arcis' aura can sometimes be amplified and transferred to another individual, rapidly enhancing their natural regenerative capabilities.
Shining Reproach
Should Arcis or his allies find themselves overwhelmed by their foes Arcis may amplify his aural field causing a powerful shockwave that casts away their foes, and the lingering energy gives him a radiantly imposing form.
Serenity Trance
Even normally, Arcis gives off a very calming energy that tends to lower the aggressiveness of anyone standing in his presence. However, when he concentrates hard enough on this ability he is actually able to render very large groups of individuals in a complete pacifistic trance that may eventually remove their willingness to fight all together.
Shining Touch
While Arcis' usual capacity to heal the wounds of others may serve well on many occasions, sometimes there are wounds just to great for natural regeneration to handle. At such a time, Arcis can call upon a full regenerative transfusion that casts away all but the most critical of injuries.
Such an ability puts a strain on his aura, however, and the spent energy must be regained before the ability can be used again.
Life-Energy
One of Arcis' strongest regenerative abilities. Since an individual's aura is their vital force Arcis can utilize his extensive aural energy to jump-start the aura of a fallen individual, effectively bringing them back into the fight.
Additional Effects and Weaknesses
Flight
Since he naturally produces a powerful energy field Arcis is able to utilize the energy to lift himself into the air as a form of flight. He can also utilize smaller bursts of energy to launch himself short distances at great speeds.
Visual Recall Disruption
Between the emanations from his aura, and the general effects it has on those near him no one has actually been able to recall exactly who he really is even though he does not wear a mask. All video recordings of him, no matter how advanced the device, have all seemed to exhibit a distorting effect as a result of his aural energies. Those who see him in person do see his face clear as day, but his aural presence appears to prevent them from making the connection to the individual or name.
Should he be rendered unconscious it is unsure whether or not such effects would be removed, and if he is unaware of such a possibility or just does not care is something he keeps to himself.
Recompense
Arcis' Aural Blades have a unique property that none of his other abilities possess. As the blades pass through his foes, they leave traces of his aura that intermingle and disrupt their own. This has the effect of reducing their capacity to fight, but given a significant amount of his energy the effect can actually render all but the most powerful super powered individuals unable to utilize their powers.
Merciful
Arcis is not a cruel individual, and is more than willing to give transgressors a second chance. However, his foes have been known to take advantage of such mercy in the past, though he rarely allows them to make good on any threats they attempt.
Mortal
While his aural energy grants him an unquestionable level of defense, Arcis is anything but invincible. Should enough pressure be applied to his defenses he can be defeated, and if he is somehow rendered unconscious he is nothing more than an ordinary human. Though his barriers immediately return upon regaining consciousness.
How he has not been killed yet is likely either due to overconfident villains, or his unyielding potential stubbornness.
Unyielding
Acris is a stubborn individual and a daunting target to take down, but do not let your guard down even if you fell him for he has been known on occasion to unleash a powerful surge of energy upon defeat that not only burns away any wounds you may have inflicted, but grants his aural abilities a surge of power that makes him even more dangerous.
There is a price to such an ability, however. Since Arcis has already been pushed past his natural limits in such cases the additional surge of energy has the potential to actually burn away his physical form.
Residences
Though he does not have any official "secret base of operations" like many heroes possess, Arcis does have a few locales to which he may retreat to should the stresses of his day become to great.
Loft Apartment
During his off-hours or just when he needs a break of normalcy in his day, Arcis will return to a loft complex he rents on the edge of the downtown area to relax as his alter-ego Adrian Gavi. It is here he takes care of any civilian obligations he has as well as relaxing after a long day of hero work.
Aside from the usual civilian amenities, Arcis' apartment also has a secured personal computer on which he conducts his civilian affairs, a hidden prep station used when preparing for more hero work, and a grand piano on which his adopted daughter Amala practices.
Anyone who visits his home may also note the various artifacts housed in a display case beneath the second floor stairway. While to most individuals they would just appear to be rare collectors items that would be seen in a museum, anyone knowledgeable in mystic and arcane secrets will see once-powerful artifacts of evil that have had their dark energies dispersed.
Undisclosed Cavern
Should Arcis need a place to relax and focus while doing hero work he will travel to a cavern of undisclosed location to focus his mind on the the task at hand. Whatever that may be.
As a place to relax in natural ambiences, Arcis has left the cavern relatively unaltered. You will find no technology or enhancements save what is brought to the location. Only a display case adorns the otherwise unaltered walls containing various melee instruments with which Arcis uses to practice his swordsmanship.
An interesting feature of the cavern is the crystalline formations found within. When approached, an individual will notice a pitched hum resonating from the crystals. This resonance has a calming effect on those near them and anyone trained to recognize mystical energies will note that they give off a similar energy as Arcis.
Allies
While generally a solo hero, there are a few individuals Arcis can be seen working with on occasion.
Rapture (Amala Gavi)
Once a prisoner of the organization DEMON, Amala was used as the catalyst in an attempt to break the barriers imprisoning the Kings of Edom. Having known nothing but misery and suffering at the hands of DEMON, Amala would have leveled the Indian subcontinent had Arcis not stepped in. Inexplicably resistant to the reality warping powers Amala possessed, Arcis was able to shield her from DEMON's control and calm her chaotic emotional state.
However, the devestation she had caused left the world governments terrified of her abilities and many sought to remove her potential threat. Arcis stepped in, however, and claimed guardianship over Amala. Any threat to her would be dealt with by him personally, and he would serve as her mentor to reign in her powers and teach her a measure of control that she lacked.
This of course had a very negative impact on Arcis reputation. However, very few individuals are willing to go against him much less the unknown potential of the unstable cataclysm waiting to happen he now oversees.
Dr. Sumati Anno (of SCION)
The lead scientist of SCION Doctor Sumati Anno has been known, on occasion, to assist Arcis with scientific matters that he is unable to perform on his own.
Silver Age Sentinels
Arcis currently serves as a member of the Silver Age Sentinels supergroup and can be seen working with the various members of the group and their allies from time to time.
Rivals
While not strictly enemies of his, Arcis has been known to butt heads with various individuals and organizations from time to time.
Sentry Star
Arcis and Sentry star have an interesting rivalry that some would call mutual respect or even friendship. At times they can be seen working together for a common cause, at others they can be seen slugging it out over some mutual difference though such confrontations are rarely destructive and almost always end in a draw.
Concordia & PATRIOT
Officially PATRIOT is a rogue agency of the United States government and publicly denounced by governing figures. Behind the scenes, however, they work with both the US government and PRIMUS to deal with threats without the constraints of international law that the other two must respect. As such, they have come at odds with Arcis in the past and see him as a severe threat to their organization, sending their premier super solder Concordia to battle him on multiple occasions.
Enemies
A collection of individuals and organizations that would like nothing less than to see Arcis' utter defeat.
ARGENT
While not a target Arcis goes out of his way to interfere with, ARGENT's numerous underhanded dealings cause them to cross paths more often than they would like. As such, Arcis has become a constant thorn in ARGENT's side that they would like removed.
VIPER
As a major threat to world stability, VIPER finds themselves on the wrong end of Arcis' attention on an almost constant basis, and the clashes between Arcis and VIPER super agents tend to cause significant collateral damage.
DEMON
DEMON first came to Arcis' attention when they unleashed the reality warping child Amala, later known as Rapture, against a major city in India in an attempt to create a reality where the Kings of Edom were free from their imprisonment. As one of the few beings in existence able to withstand her abilities, Arcis was able to calm Amala's chaotic mind and free her from DEMON's control.
Needless to say this earned the organizations unending ire and they have gone out of their way to destroy Arcis and regain control of Amala's power.
Ignis Rahl
Arcis' first villain confrontation and the catalyst that triggered his powers. Ignis was an arcane sorcerer specializing in pyromancy. He now resides in Stronghold prison, powerless and brooding.
Malice (Clara Sanders, rehabilitated)
A normal college student until an accident caused damage to her neural pathways. The result was powerful telekinetic abilities, but also an excessively unstable individual that caused considerable misery to the local populace until Arcis locked down her abilities.
Over the course of a few months, Arcis was able to use his regenerative abilities to repair the damage to her mind and return her to her old life. She still maintains her telekinetic abilities, but she rarely uses them and greatly regrets what she did.
Pride (Mirror, mirror)
"Your strengths, your power, your darkness, your PRIDE. I am your equal and your opposite. I AM you."

A result of DEMON sorcery gone horribly wrong. Pride was an attempt by the organization to turn one of their greatest foes against himself. The individual itself is little more than a massive collection of dark magic concentrated into a single form and possessing powers that mirror and sometimes exceed Arcis' own.
However, as his nature is the very embodiment of pride DEMON found it impossible to control him and he immediately turned against them, seeing himself as superior to them and every other being on the planet. Rumor has it that he has been working working with Dr. Destroyer (or at least one of his pretenders) though whether they are truly allied or merely using one another is unknown.
One thing is for certain, Pride is dangerous and not a villain to be underestimated.
Dr. Destroyer
Enemies by principal, Dr. Destroyer presents one of the greatest threats to the world, and as such Arcis is ready to battle him at any time.
