Origins
The daughter of Jason Shilling, a former Navy Corpsman and outcast of the little known mutant mafia, the Shilling family, Jessica spent most of her childhood on different military bases around the country. Her father retired when she was eleven and together with her mother they spent a peaceful year living in seclusion on the northern peninsula of Michigan.
A week after her 12th birthday her extended family paid a visit to the quiet family which left Jessica's parents dead. The man leading the attack was Walter Shilling, Jason's brother and current head of the family. Walter advanced on Jessica intent on capturing her, when her latent telekinetic powers manifested and threw him across the room. She managed to escape and locate the authorities.
Jessica spent the next twelve years attending a school for telepaths and telekinetics in San Francisco culminating in a doctorate in psychology. She moved to Millennium City to track down her family's operations and shut them down once and for all.
Appearance
Ultra's most noticeable attribute is her glowing pink eyes, they are an external manifestation of her mental powers that she has not been able to turn off since her attack.
Personality
Ultra is kind and headstrong. Having spent some time training and developing younger heroes she tends to act as a mother hen to her friends. She can be a bit shy considering the general populace's wariness of telepaths but is considered a true friend to those who get to know her
Powers and Abilities
Ultra mostly relies on blades formed of pure mental energy to defeat her foes. These can take any shape and size to allow for mission specific tasks. She can use her telekinetic abilities to fly and if prepared enough to deflect most projectiles. Her telepathic abilities have developed to the point where (depending on who's doing the survey) she ranks in the top five most power telepaths in America, often serving on the Anti-Menton group. She has the ability to transport her entire physical body onto the astral plane and back out allowing her to "teleport" around short distances.
Associations
When Ultra first came to Millennium City she was hired by the FBI's anti-organized crime unit because of her mental abilities and her skill as a Psychologist. She has recently quit, citing other priorities as the reason.
Ultra joined up with her good friend Gray and his group "Forgotten" She provided psychological services and serves as the councilor for the children at The Haven. After the group shut down she formed her own think tank with other former members of Forgotten known as the Black Swan Project. Recently she has started working with the FBI part time to provide telepathic assistance on cases of high priority allowing her to maintain her Senior Agent ranking.
She is married to Eric Deringer a investigator who founded the company Universal Investigations. They have 2 children. After the closing of the children's home, Jess and Eric adopted a young girl, Heather, who has telekinetic abilities of her own. Several months later Jess became pregnant with their son CJ.
