History and Origin
In 1921, Professor Blake Banning led an expedition into what they believed to be the tomb of Princess Ananka. They found the sarcophagus with the princess' remains inside. What they didn't know was that the tomb was also the resting place of High Priest Kharis.
Kharis was sentenced to be entombed alive to serve as the guardian of Princess Ananka's tomb as punishment for attempting to bring her back to life out of forbidden love. Kharis had survived in an undead state for centuries guarding over his love. When the tomb was disturbed, he rose that night and began a murderous rampage. He stalked and brutally killed everyone that had entered the tomb. Professor Blake Banning was the last member of the cursed group left alive and he fled into the desert with the slow moving creature behind him. Professor Banning was not running from fear but rather a plan had lept into his brain to trap the undead monster once more within the tomb. Once inside he set dynamite to blow the entrance. However the creature appeared before he was able to sneak back outside and he had no choice but to sacrifice himself to trap the mummy.
Now trapped in the sealed crypt he soon found himself in the clutches of the powerful thing. Just as his last breath was about to leave his lips. His hand fell across an amulet of Horus. Power surged through his body and a flaming sword appeared in his hands. He drove the beast further into the tomb and managed to seal it shut. It wasn't long after that reports of a man with wings of fire began to spring up back in the states. Banning was imbued with the power of Horus and named himself Sunhawk to fight injustice and evil.
Years later that responsibility has fallen to his great grandaughter, Claire Banning...
