Origins
Early Life
Davis' might very well have been destined to die as an infant. While initially a healthy and vigorous little bundle of life, only a week after his conception did he take extremely ill. His body temperature was constantly rising and he grew thinner with each passing day, crying constantly as if in pain. However still, no doctor anywhere could find any answers as to what was plaguing the young infant, as all tests concluded that he was indeed healthy. That gave his desperate parents little comfort, as the child didn't seem to get any better. Desperate, they eventually turned to alternative medicines, yet even there they would not find salvation for their dying son. That was, until they came into contact with Fei Fumen, a seemingly inconspicous acupuncturist working out of a small dojo in Chinatown.
When the infant was brought before her, the old lady immedietally knew what was the cause of his suffering: The boy had extraordinary levels of chi within his body, but somehow they had been tainted by the Dragon's influence and were now slowly killing the child from within. Using everything she knew about old medicine, Lady Fumen and her daughter Linli managed to cull the foul influence, though they couldn't purify it entirely as they were. For Davis to be completely free of the foul essence of the dragon, Lady Fumen would need to bring him to a "The spring of Complete Purity", a mythical mountain river hidden deep within the Tibetan mountains. Left with little choice but to believe the old lady, Davis' parents made preparations to fly to Tibet almost immedietally, together with Lady Fumen, her daughter Linli Marcus and her son-in-law Eddie Marcus.
At the spring, Lady Fumen managed to gather enough Chi in order to expel the entirety of the Dragon's essence from Davis' body, completely purifying him in body and soul. The child got better almost immedietally, to his parent's great joy and relief. However, there was still worry to be had about the young child. Lady Fumen believed that the child wasn't targeted like this for nothing, and that there was still a chance that agents of the Dragon would still, for whatever reason, attempt to once again infuse the child with the Dragon's essence if they were given the chance. Lady Fumen asked to have the child study with her, among the untamed mountains of Asia, in order to master his chi so that it couldn't be corrupted once more. While reluctant, Davis' parents knew the fear they had felt before and were willing to do anything to keep their child safe. While Linli and her husband returned to America, Davis' parents settled down in a small, unnamed village at the foot of the mountain range together with Lady Fumen, taking up the humble life of a couple of yak herders in order to be close to the boy at all times.
Davis' training began the moment he could walk. He could throw a punch before he could make a proper sentence and knew the concepts of Chi and spiritual energy before he could write or read. As he grew older, his training grew harsher and kept pushing him past the limits of someone his age. His parents were always worried about him, naturally, but there was little they could do at this point. While Lady Fumen handled his martial training, they made sure he was equipped with the necessery skillset and academics to make it out there in the world, as well. Between the martial training, ruthless physical regiment and mundane academics at home, there wasn't much free time for the young boy to talk about.
Champion in the Making
As the years passed, Davis would grow into a headstrong young man. He showed proof of his talent at an early age, mastering the basics of martial arts at 6, and Chi Manipulation at the tender age of 7. In only 8 more years, he would master the first of two forms that Lady Fumen aimed to teach him, Form of the Great Temple Gate. Lady Fumen eventually revealed that she had another reason for training him, and that was to prepare him for the next time the Tournament of the Dragon came about. She aimed to have him enter it when the time was ripe and fight against the very best martial artists on the planet, all for the sake of the duty to protect the world from the Death Dragon. However, this knowledge came as a shock to Davis' parents, who were not quite as happy with Fumen's plans for their one and only son. It didn't matter at all to them that he had spent his entire life preparing for such an endeavor and wanted to hear no such word of it. That soon changed when they were all attacked by Agents of the Dragon, who had finally caught wind of where Lady Fumen had hid away. Even so, their numbers proved no match for Lady Fumen. Not even for the young Davis, who before his parents effortlessly vanquished any and all attackers coming for them. Stunned and amazed, they soon realized that their son had been gifted with powers beyond their understanding.
But then, they showed. The Blades of the Zodiak, Four elite enforcers from the Red Banners. Unlike the mooks, these four were all expert martial artists that commanded weapons said to be blessed by the four heavenly beasts of the zodiak. Sensing their power, Lady Fumen sent Davis and his parents away, with the words to seek out her old friend Zheng the Hermit, while she kept them busy. Only thanks to her sacrifice did they manage to get away, losing their pursuers in the mountains. They only survived the trip thanks to persistance, willpower and luck, eventually coming upon the mountain under which Zheng the Hermit had found his refugee. Once he heard of Maverick's story, already fully aware that Lady Fumen had passed on, he accepted him as his student and began teaching him in the Seven Noble Arts. For near two years, Davis spent his time solely with Master Zheng, training to master the five elements and two opposing forces of Yin and Yang, making up the Seven Noble Arts. His parents returned to America, in order to set up a residence and wait for him to return to them. Once Davis had learnt the basics of Master Zheng's teachings, he was allowed to depart for America in order to complete his training as a Hero in the city of the future: Millenium City.
Personal File
Personality
Davis' personality type is ENFJ: Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging, of the Assertive kind.
Davis' most striking trait is his burning eagerness to do right and find new experiences to learn from. Despite his upbringing being rather secluded, he's an extremely sociable and friendly kid who likes nothing more than meeting new people and making new friends. His disposition is generally open and welcoming unless he finds a reason to act otherwise, which is very rare for him since he tends to think the best of everyone he meets, possessing a very trusting and intuitive nature. This also leaves him somewhat naive and he can come across as slow-witted at times, though he's by no means stupid or easily mislead. While his childhood in the mountains left something to be wished for in terms of worldliness, he's in returned gained wisdom and willpower beyond his years.
Davis is a spiritual young man with a moral code made of iron. His conviction is nearly unbreakable and though through experience, he can come to doubt himself at times, he will always trust in his moral compass to guide him towards the right answer. He keeps himself under a strict regiment in order to remain disciplined and focused on his task, holding it to an almost sacred regard. He strongly believes in the "Superheroic" code, that no single human is to be the judge, jury and executioner, and follows the law in that regard without question. Although it should be noted that while his own moral code is strong, he's prone to confusion and doubt in the few instances where it clashes with established laws.
Davis' confidence is strong, but brittle. He can handle loss well, as it teaches him lessons that victory can't, but should his shortcomings result in the injury of the innocent, then that will strike him hard and cause him immense emotional distress. Davis' confidence only extends to himself and what he knows, to the point where he might not even consider the powers beyond his reach. His one-track mind responds well to challenges that are within his ability to step up to, but when something threatens to change his perception of truth, then he's more likely to grow doubtful of his own abilities and wether they're up to the task.
Powers and Abilities
While possessing no actual superpowers, Davis is nonetheless capable of truly superhuman feats thanks to his ability to harness and utilize his Ch'i, a power that flows through every human but that very few learn how to harness and draw upon. This ability that he learned alongside his martial arts has caused him to transcend his human limits and the more of his Ch'i that he musters, the more powerful and destructive his body and techniques become. However, the greater the power he draws upon, the less control Maverick can exercise over his Ch'i overflow. It's no danger to him in the regular sense of the word, but while lacking control he might throw a punch that generates enough destructive power to kill another human instantly, something that he'd never even dream of doing deliberately. Because of this, Maverick constantly holds himself in check through rigorous mental exercises and he takes great care to never overstep his boundaries in battle, if he can help it.
- Ch'i Release: Davis can release his Ch'i in different stages, each stage more powerful than the next but also more difficult to Control. There is a total of 7 Stages, of which Maverick so far can only use 5.
- First Release: Wood - During this stage, his Ch'i is barely released. His physical Strength, Endurance and Stamina grow Threefold, and his Destructive Ch'i generation grows Fiftyfold.
- Second Release: Water - During this stage, his Ch'i increases sharply, but only shows as a slightly blue sheen occasionally. His physical Strength, Endurance and Stamina grow sevenfold, and his Destructive Ch'i generation grows hundredfold.
- Third Release: Earth - During this stage, his Ch'i starts to overflow and creates a slighly visible golden aura around him. His physical Strength, Endurance and Stamina grow tenfold, and his Destructive Ch'i generation grows Twohundredfold. At this stage, Davis experiences some difficulties controlling his power.
- Fourth Release: Fire - During this stage, his Ch'i is completely overflowing, a stark orange aura similar to flames surrounding him. His physical Strength, Endurance and Stamina grow fifteenfold, and his Destructive Ch'i generation grows Fivehundredfold. At this stage, Davis has a really hard time holding back, and he'd rather avoid going this far.
- Fifth Release: Metal - During this stage, his Ch'i is unhindered and has a Blood red and silver, sharp aura. His physical Strength, Endurance and Stamina grow twentyfold, and his Destructive Ch'i generation grows to a thousandfold. At this stage, Davis has currently no control over his destructive powers at all, and recovering from going this far takes days of meditation.
- Sixth Release: Yin (Light) - During this stage, his Ch'i is purified and has no aura. His physical Strength, Endurance and Stamina grow fiftyfold, and his Destructive Ch'i generation grows twothousandfold. Davis himself has not yet reached these levels.
- Final Release: Yang (Darkness) - During this stage, his Ch'i is purified and has no aura either, however his presence grows immensely. His physical Strength, Endurance and Stamina grow fiftyfold, and his Destructive Ch'i generation grows Fivethousandfold. Davis, nor many martial artists in the pages of history, even dreams of reaching this level.
- Ch'i Healing: Davis can also focus his Ch'i inwards, using it to speed up his own metabolism and thus quickly recover from injury and fatigue. This is more effective when he's focused on defense or while meditating, however.
- Ch'i Detection: Davis can sense the Ch'i in other humans, however to most who can't use their Ch'i it's so dormant that it's basically invisible. However, he can use this against other martial artists in order to sense their intentions or well-being.
