Penny was abandoned on the doorstep of an orphanage in Canada as a baby. She tried her best to fit in, but the other kids would make fun of her red hair and freckles. A funny-looking car arrived silently one night and idled in front of the house. Everyone was already asleep except for her. She'd been up crying from a particularly bad day of bullying. She was curious about the mysterious car and snuck out of her room to go get a closer look. It was just like the one she'd always dreamed would show up to take her away to anywhere other than here. It was running, but there was no driver in the seat, or anyone in sight. She should have been scared, but she wasn't. She climbed into the back seat. The door closed on its own, like it had been waiting for her, and the car began to drive away. She watched the orphanage fade from view and passing darkened windows of the houses of the neighbor kids who had teased her.
