About
No one has ever been able to find his hiding place. He has risen to fight a few times since then, but those who know the measure of his strength believe none of those attempts were sincere. Instead, they believe that he has been testing the strengths of his superheroic enemies and learning more about how the world has changed since the days he ruled.
Someday, Takofanes will rise again and battle in earnest. When that day comes, no one will be safe.
Background
Once, tens of thousands of years ago, Takofanes lived a mortal life. He was the son of demons, the beloved follower of dark gods, and the most fearsome ruler mankind had ever known. When he died, his subjects breathed a sigh of relief, mistakenly believing he was gone forever. They soon learned their error. Takofanes returned as the Archlich, the supreme undead ruler. The power of his necromancy had transformed him into something far more powerful than he had been in life.
He began his campaign to conquer the world. Nations that had once warred with each other joined together in a desperate attempt to resist him. The battle waged on for centuries, with Takofanes growing ever more powerful. The deaths of his enemies merely swelled his own armies, for he raised the fallen to serve as his soldiers. Sometimes he even kept the spirits of his coerced enemies tied to their reanimated corpses, that they could see the destruction they wrought against their former allies.
Eventually, those who battled against Takofanes triumphed. Some of the greatest magic users of the day sacrificed themselves in order to imprison the Undying Lord in a crypt far beneath the surface of the Earth.
They could not kill him – they were not powerful enough for that. But they forced him into sleep, never to be woken so long as the magics that guarded his crypt remained undisturbed.
This kept mankind safe from his evil for millennia.
In the late 1980s, petroleum drilling breached Takofanes’ crypt, waking the Undead Lord. He rose from his long slumber and slew the men who woke him, making them the first members of his undead army. His magical powers were not as strong as they had once been, thanks to the waning of magic in the world, but he still remained one of the most powerful mages in existence.
Superheroes rose up to fight against him in his march across the United States. Their first attempt saw the deaths of more than half their number. The second managed to stop him, but just barely. The Undead Lord retreated.
During Blood Moon
When Takofanes appears in Millennium City during the Blood Moon, a column of blue light appears to mark his location.

Misc. Notes
It should be noted that while Takofanes does appear during the open mission Thrash of the Lich King, he sits on his throne and is not targetable, however in the annual Halloween Blood Moon version he can be fought and defeated. Takofanes has an action figure that can be obtained from participating in the open mission mentioned above. Perks: Thrash of the Lich King Drive off Takofanes during the Blood Moon Event.
